Brewers 4, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
A home run by Sal Bando was the difference in the game as the Brewers hung on for a 4-3 triumph over the Red Sox. The solo clout came in the sixth inning and gave the Brewers a 4-1 lead. The first Brewer run came in the opening frame when Don Money doubled, went to third on a single by Bando and scored when Jim Rice bobbled the ball. Jim Wohiford upped the margin to 2-0 in the second with a bases-empty round-tripper. In the fifth frame, Robin Yount walked and came around on a single, a sacrifice and a sacrifice fly by Paul Molitor.

Indians 4, Twins 3 at Cleveland (night game):
Snapping their five-game losing streak, the Indians edged the Twins, 4-3. A three-run fifth inning was decisive. Bo Diaz walked and took third on a one-out double by Buddy Bell. A single by Johnny Grubb scored Diaz but Bell was thrown out at the plate trying to score. Johnny Sutton replaced Jeff Holly on the mound for the Twins and walked Andre Thornton. A single by Gary Alexander scored Grubb and Thornton also scored when center fielder Dan Ford's relay went into the Twins' dugout.

A walk to Mike Vail loaded the bases and the first of three doubles by Dave Kingman produced two tallies. Vail scored on an error by Bob Horner and Kingman scored on a single by Manny Trillo. The Cubs also scored twice in the third on singles by DeJesus, White and Vail. The Braves hit three consecutive homers in the third inning.
