Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 1, Orioles 0 at California (day game):
A bloop double by Don Baylor gave the Angels a 1-0 triumph over the Orioles in a 14-inning marathon. Rick Miller drew a one-out walk in the 14th and, after Lyman Bostock struck out, scored when Baylor hit a popup to center that fell safe. Nolan Ryan pitched the first seven innings for the Angels but was forced to leave with a rib separation on his left side.

Indians 10, White Sox 1 at Cleveland (day game):
Snapping a five-game losing streak, the Indians pounded the White Sox, 10-1, as Johnny Grubb drove in five runs with a bases-loaded double and pair of singles. A sacrifice fly by Andre Thornton and single by Grubb accounted for a pair of tallies in the first inning and Grubb plated three more in the fourth when center fielder Tom Spencer lost his fly ball in the sun. Grubb singled home Buddy Bell in the two-run sixth.

Royals 2, Rangers 1 at Kansas City (day game):
An error by pitcher Jonn Matlack led to the winning run as the Royals edged the Rangers, 2-1. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the third on an unusual bases-loaded double-play grounder by Bert Campaneris. The ball was grounded to George Brett, who stepped on third but threw wildly to second. Alertly backing up the play, right fielder Al Cowens threw out Kurt Bevacqua attempting to go from first to third. John Wathan led off the Royal fifth with a home run. Clint Hurdle then reached first when Matlack dropped his pop bunt, moved to second on a sacrifice by Jerry Terrell and scored on a single by Frank White.

Brewers 2, Tigers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Notching his 16th victory, Mike Caldwell pitched the Brewers past the Tigers, 2-1. The Brewers broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth. Charlie Moore led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Paul Molitor and scored on a double by Ben Oglivie.

Blue Jays 6, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
A four-run outburst in the fourth inning carried the Blue Jays to a 6-2 victory over the Twins. With one out, Al Woods tripled down the right field line and scored on a single by Alan Ashby, who moved to third on a single by Dave McKay. Ashby tallied when first baseman Craig Kusick misplayed a bunt by Luis Gomez. The final two runs of the inning scored on a single by Rick Bosetti and grounder by Bob Bailor.

Red Sox 4, A's 2 at Oakland (day game):
Given a second chance after a controversial foul tip-third strike, Jerry Remy hit a three-run homer to provide the Red Sox with a 4-2 victory over the A's. In the fifth inning, after Butch Hobson and Rick Burleson drew walks, Remy apparently struck out, but plate umpire Durwood Merrill ruled a foul tip on strike three. The A's argued strenuously, but Merrill stuck with the call and moments later Remy smashed his round-tripper.

Mariners 5, Yankees 4 at Seattle (night game):
Coming from behind, the Mariners upset the Yankees, 5-4. After the Yankees went ahead, 4-3, in the top of the seventh inning on a homer by Graig Nettles, the Mariners came back in the bottom of the frame. Bob Stinson led off with a double, took third on a bunt by Julio Cruz and scored on a single by Craig Reynolds. Leon Roberts drew a walk and Bob Robertson then singled to left for the decisive tally.

Cubs 2, Reds 1 at Chicago (day game):
A two-out bases-loaded double in the ninth inning lifted the Cubs to a 2-1 victory over the Reds. The Cubs trailed, 1-0, going into the bottom of the frame and appeared doomed when their first two batters went out. But Larry Biittner and Manny Trillo singled off starter Mike LaCoss. Doug Bair relieved and walked Ivan DeJesus to load the sacks before Dave Rader smashed the ball high off the right field wall.

Padres 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (day game):
Driving in three runs, rookie Broderick Perkins led the Padres over the Expos, 5-4. Perkins had a two-run double in the first inning and picked up the game-winning RBI in the eighth on a sacrifice fly after a triple by Dave Winfield.

Dodgers 5, Mets 4 at New York (day game):
A double by Joe Ferguson over left fielder Steve Henderson's head climaxed a three-run ninth-inning rally that brought the Dodgers a 5-4 victory over the Mets. The Dodgers trailed, 4-2, going into the ninth when Reggie Smith began the uprising with a leadoff walk. Steve Garvey singled and Henderson bobbled the ball for an error. Skip Lockwood replaced starter Craig Swan and gave up an RBI single to Ron Cey, sacrifice fly by Lee Lacy and Feguson's double, which Henderson misjudged.

Phillies 5, Giants 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
The hitting of Richie Hebner highlighted the Phillies' 5-3 triumph over the Giants. The first baseman tripled home one run in the third inning and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Bake McBride. In the sixth stanza, a double by Mike Schmidt, intentional walk to Greg Luzinski and single by Hebner produced the game-winning tally.

[DH] Pirates 7, Astros 6 (day game) / Pirates 3, Astros 1 at Pittsburgh (day game):
Extending their winning streak to seven games, the Pirates won both ends of a doubleheader from the Astros, 7-6 and 3-1, for a sweep of the unusual six-game series. In the first game, Willie Stargell batted in three runs and Frank Taveras went 4-for-5 to lead the attack. Stargell drove in one run with a single in the first inning and smashed a two-run homer in the third. Dale Berra hit his first major league home run in the fourth. Jerry Reuss scattered nine hits to go the route and win for the first time this season in the nightcap. Ed Ott hit a solo homer in the fourth. Phil Garner followed with a single, went to third on a single by Berra and scored on the front end of a double steal. Ott hit another bases-empty homer in the sixth.

Cardinals 6, Braves 4 at St. Louis (day game):
A two-run double by Ted Simmons in the seventh inning snapped a 4-4 tie and gave the Cardinals a 6-4 decision over the Braves. Garry Templeton and George Hendrick legged out consecutive bunts to set the stage for Simmons' line shot just inside the first base bag. Rookie Tom Bruno raised his record to 3-0.
