Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 9, Twins 6 at Minnesota (night game):
With rookie Lance Parrish driving in six runs on a grand slam homer and triple, the Tigers posted a 9-6 victory over the Twins. Parrish blasted his first career grand slam off reliever Johnny Sutton in the seventh inning and tripled off starter Geoff Zahn for the Tigers' first two runs in the first frame and scored on a sacrifice fly by Aurelio Rodriguez. Ron LeFlore stole second in the sixth inning, his 26th straight theft without being caught, tying the A.L. record for consecutive steals, set last year by Mitchell Page of the Oakland A's.

Orioles 3, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
A three-hitter by Mike Flanagan carried the Orioles past the A's, 3-2, ending Baltimore's four-game losing streak. The Birds scored two runs in the third on a single by Eddie Murray following walks to Larry Harlow and Ken Singleton and an error by second baseman Mike Edwards. The Orioles added their final run in the ninth on an error by A's leftfielder Mitchell Page.

Blue Jays 8, Rangers 6 at Toronto (day game):
Erupting for five runs in the fifth inning, the Blue Jays went on to an 8-6 victory over the Rangers. In the Jay fifth, Dave McKay singled and moved to third on a double by Tim Johnson. McKay scored on a grounder by Rick Bosetti and Bosetti reached first safely when Mike Hargrove dropped the throw from shortstop Toby Harrah. A fielder's choice grounder by Roy Howell plated Johnson and Bosetti tallied on a single by Willie Horton. Jim Umbarger relieved Dock Ellis on the hill and issued consecutive walks to John Mayberry and Otto Velez before a single by Alan Ashby resulted in two more runs.

Cardinals 14, Reds 9 at Cincinnati (night game):
Lambasting five Cincinnati pitchers for 23 hits, the Cardinals won their 13th game in the last 17 starts, clubbing the Reds, 14-9. The Redbirds got four runs and five hits, including a two-run double by Garry Templeton in the second inning, and staged another four-run outburst in the fourth frame, paced by five hits, including doubles by Ted Simmons and Ken Reitz. George Hendrick singled home a tally in fifth, Lou Brock singled in the Cardinals' 11th run in the sixth and the Redbirds added another pair in the seventh on a solo homer by Simmons and a single by Jerry Mumphrey.

Astros 8, Cubs 3 at Houston (night game):
A four-run outburst in the fourth inning highlighted an 8-3 victory by the Astros over the Cubs. In the fourth frame, Denny Walling doubled and scored on a single by Jimmy Sexton. Sexton took second on the throw to the plate, advanced to third on a sacrifice and scored on a single by J.R. Richard. An infield single by Puhl and a hit batsman loaded the bases before Jose Cruz capped the rally with a two-run single. The win ended a six-game losing streak for the Astros.

Expos 4, Dodgers 2 at Montreal (night game):
Three home runs powered the Expos to a 4-2 triumph over the Dodgers. Andre Dawson hit a solo blast in fourth inning, Warren Cromartie broke a 2-2 tie with a bases-empty round-tripper in the sixth stanza and Gary Carter added an insurance marker in the eighth frame with a circuit smash. Ross Grimsley went the route for the 14th time in picking up his 15th win of the campaign.

Giants 4, Mets 2 at New York (night game):
A triple by Rob Andrews broke a 2-2 tie in the 11th inning and lifted the Giants to a 4-2 triumph over the Mets. Willie McCovey opened the 11th with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Terry Whitfield, who reached second when pitcher Kevin Kobel threw late to that base after fielding a bunt by Marc Hill. Whitfield and Hill advanced on a sacrifice by Johnnie LeMaster and scored when Andrews followed with a shallow pop near the right field line that skipped past Joel Youngblood for a three-base hit.

Padres 7, Phillies 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Pinch-hitter Jerry Turner doubled home Fernando Gonzalez with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and Gene Tenace added a two-run homer to give the Padres a 7-3 victory over the Phillies. With two out in the eighth, Gonzalez stroked his fourth single of the game and scored on Turner's double to right-center. The Padres added another tally in that inning when Ozzie Smith drew a bases-loaded walk. Tenace's homer came after a single by Oscar Gamble in the ninth.
