Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Mariners 3 at Baltimore (day game):
A two-run homer by Eddie Murray in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Orioles to their sixth straight victory in a 4-3 decision over the Mariners. The Birds trailed, 3-2, going into the last of the ninth when Ken Singleton stroked a one-out double. Murray then hit the first pitch from loser Enrique Romo into the right field seats.

Red Sox 4, Angels 3 at Boston (day game):
A two-out single by Butch Hobson capped a two-run, 12th inning rally to lift the Red Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Angels, completing the three-game series sweep. After Rick Miller doubled and Don Baylor singled to put the Angels ahead, 3-2, in the top of the 12th, the Red Sox came back in the bottom of the frame. Carl Yastrzemski led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Jerry Remy. A flyout by Carlton Fisk, walk to Fred Lynn and flyout by Dwight Evans produced two outs and left runners on first and second. George Scott then hit a grounder to third baseman Carney Lansford, who threw wildly to first, pulling Joe Rudi off the bag as Remy dashed home. Hobson followed with his game-winning hit to center.

White Sox 6, Indians 0 at Chicago (day game):
Pitching his first complete big league game, Ross Baumgarten hurled the White Sox to a 6-0 blanking of the Indians. The White Sox scored in the second inning on a triple by Thad Bosley and single by Mike Colbern. The Pale Hose then broke up Baumgarten's duel with Paul Reuschel by scoring three runs in the seventh on a double by Lamar Johnson and singles by Eric Soderholm, Bosley, Don Kessinger and Ralph Garr.

Tigers 4, Brewers 2 at Detroit (day game):
Breaking a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning, the Tigers went on to a 4-2 victory over the Brewers. In the fifth, singles by Tim Corcoran and Phil Mankowski plus a double by Alan Trammell produced one run and Lou Whitaker hiked the lead to 4-2 with a two-run single. Whitaker also singled home Ron LeFlore in the third inning.

Yankees 6, A's 2 at New York (day game):
With Chris Chambliss and Graig Nettles each hitting a pair of homers, the Yankees powered past the A's, 6-2, as Catfish Hunter got credit for his sixth straight victory. Chambliss put the Yankees in front, 2-0, in the first inning with a homer after a single by Thurman Munson. Nettles followed with a round-tripper. Chambliss hit a solo shot in the sixth and Nettles another bases-empty clout in the eighth.

Royals 4, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
The slugging of Amos Otis and Darrell Porter enabled the Royals to snare a 4-2 victory from the Rangers. The Royals trailed, 1-0, going into the seventh inning when Porter tied the score with a home run. Later in the inning, Otis belted a round-tripper to put the Royals ahead. Porter hit his second homer of the game in the ninth. Otis then singled home the Royals' final run.

Twins 3, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (day game):
A single by Willie Norwood in the top of the 11th inning drove in the winning run, enabling the Twins to snap their seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays. The score was 2-2 going into the 11th when Butch Wynegar smacked a leadoff double. Rob Wilfong ran for Wynegar and scored one out later on Norwood's hit to right. The Jays had tied the contest in the eighth on RBI singles by Al Woods and John Mayberry.

Cardinals 14, Braves 3 at Atlanta (day game):
Three hits by Ken Reitz, including a three-run homer, sparked the Cardinals to a 14-3 romp over the Braves. With one out in the third inning, Tony Scott doubled and Keith Hernandez walked. When Scott was thrown out attempting to steal third, Hernandez went to second. George Hendrick got a base on balls. Reitz then smacked a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to give the Redbirds a 4-0 lead. The Cards' task was made easier by five Atlanta errors.

Cubs 7, Reds 1 at Cincinnati (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Cubs posted a 7-1 triumph over the Reds behind the four-hit pitching of Mike Krukow. Dave Kingman batted in one run with a grounder in the first inning and made it a four RBI day with a homer in the seventh.

Pirates 8, Astros 5 at Houston (day game):
The Pirates snapped a five-game Houston winning streak by beating the Astros, 8-5. The Bucs scored three runs in their first turn at bat on a single by Omar Moreno, a stolen base, single by Dave Parker and two-run homer by Willie Stargell. They added two in the second on a walk to Ed Ott, singles by Phil Garner and Frank Taveras and a sacrifice fly by Moreno.
