Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Indians 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Orioles edged the Indians, 3-2, behind the combined four-hit pitching of Jim Palmer and Don Stanhouse. The first Oriole run came in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly by Eddie Murray. Doug DeCinces, hitting safely in his 18th straight game, homered in the fourth frame and Ken Singleton added an RBI single in the eighth.

Red Sox 1, Tigers 0 at Boston (night game):
A leadoff homer by Jim Rice in the fourth inning accounted for the lone run as the Red Sox stayed one game behind the Yankees in the East division by edging the Tigers, 1-0, behind a three-hitter by Mike Torrez. The victory was the righthander's first in more than a month.

Angels 11, White Sox 7 at California (night game):
Carney Lansford drove in four runs with a homer and a single as the Angels outslugged the White Sox, 11-7. Lansford homered with two men on base to highlight a five-run first inning and singled in a run as the Angels batted around in the fourth. Eric Soderholm hit a pair of round-trippers for the Pale Hose, who knocked out Nolan Ryan after two-thirds of one inning.

Yankees 3, Blue Jays 1 at New York (night game):
Capping a brilliant regular season with his 24th victory, Ron Guidry tossed a four-hitter as the Yankees maintained their one-game lead in the East division by beating the Blue Jays, 3-1. Guidry raised his strikeout total to 243 for a new club record. The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Lou Piniella singled, went to second when Chris Chambliss was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Roy White. The Blue Jays tied the game in the fifth on an error by Willie Randolph before a Toronto error gave the Yankees their victory in the sixth. A single by Thurman Munson and a walk to Reggie Jackson sent Jay starter Balor Moore to the showers in favor of Tom Buskey. Piniella grounded out and Graig Nettles was walked intentionally to load the bases. Munson and Jackson scored when first baseman Doug Ault committed a throwing error to home on a grounder by Chambliss.

Rangers 4, Mariners 3 at Seattle (night game):
Breaking a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning, the Rangers topped the Mariners, 4-3. Bobby Bonds drew a walk to open the eighth, bringing on Enrique Romo in relief of Shane Rawley. A walk to Johnny Grubb and single by Al Oliver loaded the sacks. One out later, Bonds scored when Jim Sundberg bounced into a forceout.

Astros 4, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Raising his league-leading strikeout total to 303, most ever in one season for a righthander in the N. L., J.R. Richard pitched the Astros to a 4-3 victory over the Braves. Richard also hit a homer. The Astros scored two runs in the seventh inning to win. Jose Cruz led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice by Julio Gonzalez. A pinch-double by Reggie Baldwin tallied Cruz and a single by Rafael Landestoy plated Baldwin.

Reds 8, Dodgers 7 at Cincinnati (night game):
Staging a Garrison finish, the Reds scored six runs in the ninth inning to beat the Dodgers, 8-7, and complete the three-game series sweep. Pete Rose started the rally with a single and on his second trip, singled again to drive in the winning run. The Reds scored three times after two were out. Dave Tomlin, who gave up two runs in the top of ninth, was credited with an undeserved win. Steve Garvey reached the 200-hit plateau for the fourth time with the Dodgers and Rose had four hits for the Reds to raise his season total to 195.
