Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 4, Red Sox 1 at Boston (day game):
Scattering eight hits, Lary Sorensen pitched the Brewers to a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. The Brewers' first run came in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Sixto Lezcano. With two out in the seventh, Paul Molitor and Sal Bando cracked consecutive homers and a third run followed on a triple by Cecil Cooper and single by Larry Hisle.

Indians 6, Rangers 4 at Cleveland (day game):
Driving in four runs, Gary Alexander sparked the Indians to a 6-4 triumph over the Rangers. After the Rangers took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Bump Wills, Alexander pumped a three-run homer off reliever Sparky Lyle in the bottom of the frame for the Indians' first victory over the Rangers in 14 games.

Angels 11, Twins 6 at Minnesota (day game):
Paced by Rod Carew, who had two doubles, two singles and two RBIs, the Angels roared to their seventh straight victory, beating the Twins, 11-6. Carew's first two-bagger came in the Angels' five-run second inning and scored Rance Mulliniks and Rick Miller. The Angels led by only 8-6 going into the eighth inning, but put the game away with a three-run outburst. Willie Aikens drove in a pair with a double and Don Baylor stroked a run-scoring single.

Yankees 3, Orioles 1 at New York (night game):
Solo home runs by Jim Spencer and Reggie Jackson lifted the Yankees to a 3-1 triumph over the Orioles, who suffered their sixth consecutive defeat. Spencer snapped a 1-1 tie when he led off the fifth inning with his circuit clout. Jackson's blast came in the following frame. Tommy John, getting relief help from Rich Gossage, recorded his third straight victory.

A's 5, Mariners 2 at Oakland (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the A's defeated the Mariners, 5-2. The score was 2-2 going into the seventh inning when the A's picked up three runs. A single by Larry Murray, double by Jim Essian and intentional walk to Wayne Gross loaded the bases. One run scored on a single by Rob Picciolo and two more came across when Mariner shortstop Mario Mendoza booted a grounder by Miguel Dilone. The crowd of 1,215 gave Oakland a total of only 4,806 for the Seattle series.

White Sox 12, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (day game):
The White Sox collected 18 hits and enjoyed a 12-5 feast at the expense of the Blue Jays. Five White Sox batters -- Chet Lemon, Alan Bannister, Eric Soderholm, Mike Squires and Greg Pryor -- had three hits apiece. Pryor drove in four runs.

Cardinals 3, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
A run-scoring single by Tony Scott enabled the Cardinals to outlast the Cubs, 3-2, in a 14-inning marathon. With one out, Keith Hernandez stroked a double, Ted Simmons received an intentional base on balls and, after the second out, Scott delivered his game-winning hit.

Astros 4, Dodgers 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Vern Ruhle yielded only six hits and did not allow any runner past second base while pitching the Astros to a 4-0 victory over the Dodgers. The Astros picked up three runs in the second inning. A single by Enos Cabell, walk to Art Howe and double by Jose Cruz produced the first run and another pair came across on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Alan Ashby.

Expos 6, Mets 5 at Montreal (day game):
Rallying for two runs in the bottom of the ninth, the Expos edged the Mets, 6-5. Jerry White led off with a pinch-hit double, Andre Dawson walked and Rodney Scott beat out an infield hit to load the bases. White scored the tying run as Warern Cromartie bounced into a double play. Ellis Valentine followed with a single to plate Dawson with the winning marker.

Phillies 3, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Home runs by Bake McBride and Greg Luzinski powered the Phillies to a 3-2 triumph over the Pirates. McBride hit a solo clout in the third inning and Luzinski bashed the ball into the upper deck of Three Rivers Stadium following a single by Pete Rose in the sixth. Willie Stargell had a two-run homer for the Bucs in the eighth.

Padres 7, Giants 6 at San Diego (night game):
In a weird rally, three runs were forced across the plate on a hit batsman and two walks with the bases loaded to hand the Padres a 7-6 victory over the Giants. With two out in the ninth inning, Dan Briggs delivered a pinch-single and Gene Richards was safe on an error by shortstop Johnnie LeMaster. A walk to pinch-hitter Gene Tenace loaded the bases and brought Gary Lavelle to pitch in relief of Tom Griffin. Jerry Turner was hit by a pitch to force in one run and the tying tally came home when Dave Winfield walked. With Mike Hargrove at the plate, the count reached 3-and-1 when Lavelle was ejected by plate umpire Dave Pallone for protesting the call. Joe Coleman entered the game and his first pitch to Hargrove was outside, forcing in Tenace with the winner.
