Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Brewers 2 at Baltimore (day game):
Lee May hit two homers in one game for the 35th time in his major league career, both shots coming with a man on base, to power the Orioles to a 4-2 victory over the Brewers.

Red Sox 10, Royals 4 at Boston (day game):
Homers by Fred Lynn, Jim Rice and Dwight Evans marked the Red Sox' 10-hit attack in a 10-4 victory over the Royals, who went down to their fourth straight defeat. Before the sluggers went into action, the Red Sox broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run single by Jerry Remy in the fourth inning. Lynn hit his seventh homer of the season in the fifth. Then, in the seventh, Rice boomed his roundtripper, Carl Yastrzemski singled, stole second and scored on an error, and Evans capped the frame with a two-run smash.

Angels 13, A's 1 at California (night game):
Nolan Ryan pitched a no-hitter for 7 1/3 innings before being foiled in his bid for the fifth gem of his career but emerged with an easy 13-1 victory over the A's as the Angels extended their winning streak to 10 games. Mitchell Page ruined Ryan's no-hitter with a single. One out later, Ryan walked Dwayne Murphy and left the game, complaining of a groin pull. Jim Barr relieved and yielded a run-scoring single by Wayne Gross for the A's only other hit. Ryan struck out 12, marking the 121st time in his career that the speedballer had struck out 10 or more batters. The Angels opened their attack with a three-run homer by Joe Rudi in the third inning and then exploded for nine runs in the fifth, including a grand slam by Don Baylor.

White Sox 6, Indians 5 at Cleveland (day game):
The White Sox spoiled the return of Wayne Garland by defeating the Indians, 6-5. Garland, who underwent a shoulder operation last May, gave up seven hits and three runs, two earned, before leaving the game on the short end of a 3-1 score after six innings. The White Sox padded their lead to 6-1 against Len Barker before relief wildness almost cost them their victory. Lerrin LaGrow issued two passes with the bases loaded in the eighth and Mike Proly allowed two more runs on a walk and a sacrifice fly. However, Proly then got the last two outs in the eighth and retired the side in the ninth to save the victory for starter Ross Baumgarten.

Blue Jays 5, Tigers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Rick Bosetti batted in two runs with a homer in the fifth inning and added the deciding marker with a triple in the seventh as the Blue Jays ended a five-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Tigers, who were stopped on their four-game winning string. John Mayberry drove in the Jays' initial run with a single in the first and scored another tally after drawing a walk in the fourth. Lou Whitaker accounted for two of the Tigers' tallies with a sacrifice fly and single.

Twins 6, Mariners 5 at Minnesota (day game):
Although knocked out in the seventh inning, Jerry Koosman received credit for his third straight victory since coming to his home state of Minnesota when the Twins defeated the Mariners, 6-5. Mike Marshall pitched the last two innings and picked up his fourth save. The Twins broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the second inning on a homer by Ken Landreaux, singles by John Castino and Roy Smalley around an infield out, and a triple by Ron Jackson. Smalley then provided the deciding blow, hitting a homer in the fourth inning to score behind Castino, who had doubled.

Rangers 5, Yankees 0 at New York (day game):
Backed by catcher Jim Sundberg, who drove in four of the Rangers' runs, Fergie Jenkins beat the Yankees, 5-0, posting the 45th shutout of his major league career. Sundberg hit a two-run triple off Catfish Hunter in the second inning and scored himself on a sacrifice fly by Pat Putnam. The Rangers' receiver added a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and accounted for his fourth RBI with a single in the eighth.

Padres 9, Braves 5 at Atlanta (night game):
The Padres broke a 4-4 tie with four runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Braves, 9-5. In the early going, Barry Bonnell hit a two-run homer for the Braves and Gene Tenace rapped a solo drive for the Padres. Ozzie Smith, Jerry Turner and Dave Winfield singled in succession to produce the tie-breaking run in the eighth. Mike Hargrove walked to load the bases and Tenace delivered another run with a sacrifice fly. Braves' third baseman Jerry Royster, on the relay from the outfield, threw wild to second trying to nail Hargrove, and both Winfield and Hargrove scored on the error.

Cubs 4, Expos 3 at Chicago (day game):
Coming from behind, the Cubs scored three runs in the sixth inning and edged the Expos, 4-3. Andre Dawson hit a triple and double and scored twice to help the Expos take a 3-1 lead before the Cubs rallied. Steve Ontiveros led off the sixth with a single and scored on a triple by Mike Vail. A pinch-single by Larry Biittner plated Vail and tied the score. After Ted Sizemore sacrificed and Bobby Murcer was handed an intentional pass, Ivan DeJesus singled to drive in the deciding run. Bruce Sutter gained his fourth save, all of them coming in the Cubs' last four victories.

Astros 5, Pirates 4 at Houston (night game):
Jose Cruz singled with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, scoring Terry Puhl, to give the Astros a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. Pinch-hitter Denny Walling led off with a single and Puhl was safe on an error by Dale Berra in handling his bunt. Craig Reynolds also bunted and all hands were safe when Berra threw late to Tim Foli, covering third, in an attempt to nail Walling. Cesar Cedeno forced Walling at the plate before Cruz came up and rapped his winning single. The Pirates' scoring included a two-run homer by John Milner and solo shot by Willie Stargell, who also accounted for another RBI with a single.

Phillies 3, Mets 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Nino Espinosa gained his second victory of the season, both at the expense of his former teammates, when the Phillies defeated the Mets, 3-0. Espinosa pitched 7 1/3 innings before needing help from Tug McGraw, who completed the shutout. The Phillies, in gaining their sixth straight victory, scored in the first on walks to Bake McBride and Pete Rose and a single by Mike Schmidt. Other tallies followed in the fourth on a single by Schmidt, triple by Garry Maddox and single by Manny Trillo.

Dodgers 2, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
A run-scoring single by Manny Mota in the 10th inning for the 133rd pinch-hit of the veteran's career enabled the Dodgers to defeat the Giants, 2-1. The Dodgers counted their initial run off Bob Knepper in the second on a walk to Steve Garvey, single by Joe Ferguson, a wild pitch and passes to Steve Yeager and Burt Hooton. The Giants, who were held to five hits by Hooton, tied the score in the seventh with a single by Bill Madlock, pass to Jack Clark, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Willie McCovey. In the 10th, with Tom Griffin on the hill for the Giants, Garvey singled with one out and Ferguson walked. After Dave Roberts relieved, Mota batted for Gary Thomasson and delivered his deciding single.

Reds 4, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Mike LaCoss allowed only three hits in eight innings and Doug Bair pitched a hitless ninth as the Reds gained their fifth straight victory, defeating the Cardinals, 4-1. Dan Driessen knocked in the Reds' initial run off Silvio Martinez with a sacrifice fly in the first, but Ted Simmons tied the score with a homer in the fourth. LaCoss then paved the way for the deciding run in the seventh, beating out an infield hit. After successive forceouts by Ken Griffey and Dave Concepcion, Joe Morgan and George Foster singled to send the Reds ahead. An extra pair counted in the ninth off reliever Mark Littell on a pass to Concepcion, his second stolen base of the game, a wild pitch, a single by Foster and another wild pitch.
