Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Flying to their seventh straight victory, the Orioles defeated the Angels, 5-2. The Orioles scored twice in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 deadlock. Eddie Murray doubled, took third on a single by Doug DeCinces and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lee May. A single by Rick Dempsey then plated DeCinces. DeCinces had a two-run single in the ninth to put the game on ice.

Twins 4, Indians 2 at Cleveland (day game):
A double by John Castino in the ninth inning lifted the Twins to a 4-2 victory over the Indians. Jose Morales drew a one-out walk and after Willie Norwood flied out, Bob Randall dropped a single in short right and Castino followed with his game-winning hit, scoring both runners.

Royals 7, White Sox 6 at Kansas City (night game):
A single by Al Cowens in the ninth inning drove home the winning run as the Royals outlasted the White Sox, 7-6. After the White Sox tied the game in the top of the ninth on a homer by Bill Nahorodny, Frank White began the Royals' comeback with a two-out double. Following an intentional walk to Pete LaCock, Al Cowens lined a single to end the game.

A's 1, Yankees 0 at Oakland (night game):
Craig Minetto and Jim Todd combined to pitch the A's to a 1-0 triumph over the Yankees. The game's only run came in the sixth inning. Glenn Burke lined a triple to left, Joe Wallis drew a walk and Burke scored as Mitchell Page bounced into a forceout. Todd relieved Minetto with two on and one out in the seventh and induced pinch-hitter Jim Spencer to ground into a double play.

Red Sox 4, Mariners 1 at Seattle (night game):
The Red Sox won their sixth straight game and handed the Mariners their 10th consecutive loss, 4-1. The Red Sox began the scoring with a homer by George Scott in the second inning. Butch Hobson led off the fifth with a triple and scored on a single by Dwight Evans. A triple by Jim Rice and single by Carl Yastrzemski produced a sixth-inning tally and Fred Lynn clouted a homer in the eighth.

Rangers 4, Blue Jays 3 at Texas (night game):
Consecutive two-out singles in the 10th inning by Al Oliver, Oscar Gamble and Johnny Grubb enabled the Rangers to edge the Blue Jays, 4-3. The Jays had tied the game in the top of the ninth on a grounder by Bob Bailor with the bases loaded. Oliver drove in the first three Ranger runs with a pair of singles.

Cubs 4, Astros 0 at Chicago (day game):
Homers by Bobby Murcer and Dave Kingman powered the Cubs to a 4-0 triumph over the Astros as Dennis Lamp hurled a five-hitter. Murcer's clout came in the fifth inning and followed a single by Steve Ontiveros. Kingman's wallop led off the seventh.

Pirates 3, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (day game):
A sacrifice fly by Lee Lacy in the 11th inning provided the winning margin as the Pirates downed the Reds, 3-2. Dave Parker led off with a double, took third on an infield out and scored on Lacy's fly.

Expos 9, Padres 6 at Montreal (day game):
Inserted into the lineup because of a three-game suspension to Ellis Valentine, Jerry White slugged a three-run homer to climax a five-run first inning that propelled the Expos to a 9-6 decision over the Padres. The Expos' first run came on a double by Rodney Scott and triple by Warren Cromartie. A single by Tony Perez plated Cromartie and, after a single by Gary Carter, White socked the ball over the left field fence. The Expos picked up three runs in the seventh on two balks by Padre reliever Rollie Fingers and a sacrifice fly by White.

Mets 2, Giants 0 at New York (night game):
Throttling San Francisco on two hits, Craig Swan pitched the Mets to a 2-0 victory over the Giants. The Mets, who had only three hits themselves, scored in the second inning on a walk to Steve Henderson, double by Willie Montanez and sacrifice fly by Joel Youngblood. John Stearns hit a homer for the other run in the fifth.

Phillies 5, Dodgers 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
Pete Rose drove home the winning run as the Phillies scored twice in the ninth inning to edge the Dodgers, 5-4, and complete the three-game series sweep. In the opening rally, Manny Trillo singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice, went to third on a single by pinch-hitter Greg Gross and scored on a grounder by pinch-hitter Jose Cardenal. After Larry Bowa walked, Rose singled to score Lonnie Smith, pinch-running for Gross.
