Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Rocketing to their eighth straight victory, the Orioles snapped a 2-2 tie in the ninth inning and defeated the Angels, 4-2. An infield hit by Al Bumbry started the winning rally. A single by Rich Dauer moved Bumbry to third and a single by Lee May drove home the tie-breaker. An infield hit by Ken Singleton loaded the bases and Eddie Murray then stroked a deep fly ball to left field to score Dauer.

Royals 5, Indians 4 at Kansas City (night game):
The winning run scored on a wild pitch as the Royals edged the Indians. 5-4. After Gary Alexander tied the score for the Indians at 4-4 with a homer in the top of the ninth, Willie Wilson was hit by a pitch in the Royals' half and advanced to third on a single by Pete LaCock. Pinch-hitter Tom Poquette then drew a walk to load the sacks. After White flied out to shallow center, reliever Sid Monge uncorked a wild pitch with George Brett at the plate, allowing Wilson to dash home.

[DH] Brewers 5, Tigers 1 (day game) / Brewers 7, Tigers 5 at Milwaukee (day game):
The Brewers swept a doubleheader from the Tigers, 5-1 and 7-5. In the first game, the Brewers trailed, 1-0, going into the seventh inning, but Cecil Cooper tied the game with a leadoff home run. After Don Money was hit by a pitch, Tiger starter Jack Billingham was relieved by John Hiller. A bunt single by Ben Oglivie, sacrifice by Sixto Lezcano and intentional walk to Sal Bando loaded the bases. Charlie Moore then delivered a two-run single to put the Brewers ahead to stay. In the second game, the Brewers were behind, 3-1, going into the bottom of the sixth inning when they loaded the bases on a single by Oglivie, walk to Bando and infleld hit by Larry Hisle. Robin Yount then cleared the sacks with a two-bagger. Yount also doubled home another tally in the eighth and Gorman Thomas singled home two more runs in the same frame.

Red Sox 2, Mariners 0 at Seattle (night game):
Unfurling a six-hitter, Bob Stanley pitched the Red Sox to a 2-0 victory over the Mariners. Both runs scored in the third inning on a double by Bob Montgomery, a single by Jerry Remy, who then stole second, and a single by Rick Burleson. The win was the seventh straight for the Red Sox, while the Mariners dropped their 11th in a row, the longest losing streak in the club's history.

Astros 6, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs' five-game winning streak was stopped by the Astros, 6-2. J.R. Richard, who hit a homer to give the Astros a 1-0 lead in the third, was the winner although leaving the mound because of a back strain after five innings. Craig Reynolds batted in three runs for the Astros with a single and double. Jerry Martin hit his first homer in a Cubs' uniform.
