Today's scores and summaries:
Angels 1, Yankees 0 at California (night game):
Nolan Ryan outdueled Ron Guidry as the Angels beat the Yankees, 1-0. The first hit of the season for Jim Anderson, a two-out double in the third inning, brought home Terry Humphrey with the game's only run.
Brewers 6, Indians 1 at Cleveland (night game):
Picking up his first victory since April 12 of last year, Moose Haas hurled the Brewers past the Indians, 6-1. Haas was sidelined for most of last season with a torn muscle in his pitching arm. Ben Oglivie helped send Indians' starter Wayne Garland to his third straight defeat when he lined a bases-loaded single in the first inning to produce two runs. With a homer in the second, Bobby Bonds became one of two men in major league history to hit 300 homers and steal 300 bases -- Willie Mays is the other.
Rangers 3, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
A fifth-inning homer by Al Oliver proved the difference as the Rangers edged the Royals, 3-2. The Rangers' initial run came in the first inning on singles by Billy Sample and Johnny Grubb and a double by Buddy Bell The second tally came in the fourth frame on a double by Pat Putnam, single by Nelson Norman and squeeze bunt by Sample. Oliver's blow was a 425-foot shot into the wind over the center field wall.
Red Sox 2, A's 1 at Oakland (night game):
A homer by Dwight Evans with two out in the eighth lifted the Red Sox to a 2-1 verdict over the A's. The other Red Sox run came in the third when Evans singled, went to second on an infield out and scored on a single by Jerry Remy.
Orioles 9, Mariners 3 at Seattle (night game):
Pounding out 15 hits, the Orioles breezed past the Mariners, 9-3. Billy Smith knocked in two runs with a double and Al Bumbry one with a single as the Orioles took command in the second inning. Ken Singleton blasted a solo homer in the fifth and John Lowenstein cracked a three-run round-tripper in the ninth.
Twins 7, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (night game):

Reds 4, Cubs 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
With Mike LaCoss and Doug Bair combining on a four-hitter, the Reds gained a 4-1 decision over the Cubs. Ray Knight singled home Champ Summers with the Reds' first run in the second inning. Two runs followed in the third on singles by Dave Concepcion and Joe Morgan, a wild pickoff throw to first by Cub pitcher Rick Reuschel and a double by George Foster. Bunt singles by LaCoss and Ken Griffey and a sacrifice fly by Morgan produced the final tally in the seventh.
Pirates 10, Braves 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Clouting a pair of two-run homers, Bill Robinson paced the Pirates to a 10-2 thumping of the Braves as John Candelaria picked up his first victory of the season. Robinson hit his first homer in the first inning after Dave Parker doubled. His second swat came in the fourth frame, again with Parker on base.
Cardinals 5, Astros 2 at St. Louis (night game):
John Denny, who had not been a winner since the opening day of the season, pitched the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory over the Astros. Denny's route-going performance ended a string of 18 games in which the Cardinals were forced to go to their bullpen. Tony Scott had three hits in the game for the sixth time this season as the Cardinals handed Ken Forsch his first defeat of the season.
