Orioles 8, A's 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Consecutive home runs by Eddie Murray, Lee May and Gary Roenicke in the sixth inning highlighted the game as the Orioles powered their way to an 8-2 victory over the A's. Murray's clout extended his hitting streak to 19 games and came after Singleton singled with two out.

Angels 10, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
A grand-slam homer by Joe Rudi in the first inning started the Angels off to a 10-2 thumping of the Red Sox, Rudi's blast was preceded by a double by Rick Miller and walks to Rod Carew and Don Baylor. Carney Lansford belted a two-run homer in the third and added a solo clout in the fifth.

Tigers 10, White Sox 8 at Detroit (night game):
Tapping five pitchers for eight hits, the Tigers edged the White Sox, 10-8. The score was 6-6 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when a single by Lou Whitaker, walk to Rusty Staub and single by Steve Kemp produced the Tigers' tie-breaking tally. Before the inning ended, Lance Parrish belted a two-run double and scored on a double by Jerry Morales. Morales also had a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Brewers 9, Indians 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
A three-run homer by Sixto Lezcano climaxed a seven-run outburst in the fifth inning that lifted the Brewers to a 9-5 triumph over the Indians. A sacrifice fly by Paul Molitor and single by Cecil Cooper produced the first two markers in the big frame. With the bases loaded and two out, Tribe right fielder Bobby Bonds dropped Ben Oglivie's fly ball for a two-run error. Lezcano then unloaded his homer off reliever Dan Spillner.

Twins 16, Blue Jays 6 at Minnesota (night game):
With Roy Smalley and Craig Kusick socking two homers apiece and Ken Landreaux driving in five runs with four hits, including an inside-the-park homer, the Twins lambasted the Blue Jays, 16-6. The Jays led, 6-5, going into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Twins scored six times. Landreaux drove in two tallies with a single and Bombo Rivera doubled home three more.

Yankees 5, Mariners 3 at New York (night game):
A four-run outburst in the fifth inning carried the Yankees to a 5-3 victory over the Mariners. The Yanks trailed, 3-0, going into the fifth when Reggie Jackson opened with a home run. Juan Beniquez and Jim Spencer followed with singles and scored on a triple by Willie Randolph. A single by Thurman Munson delivered Randolph. Ron Guidry faced six batters in relief and struck out four.

Rangers 8, Royals 7 at Texas (night game):
The relief pitching of Jim Kern enabled the Rangers to post an 8-7 triumph over the Royals. Kern blanked the Royals on one hit over the final 4 2/3 innings. The Rangers' winning run scored in the fifth when Al Oliver singled, moved to second on an error by U.L. Washington and counted on a single by Gary Gray. Ed Farmer, making his first start of the season for the Rangers, struck Frank White on the right hand with a pitch to open the game, fracturing his fifth metacarpal bone, and in the fifth inning hit Al Cowens on the right cheek, breaking his jaw.

Braves 4, Pirates 1 at Atlanta (night game):
A three-hitter by Eddie Solomon carried the Braves to a 4-1 triumph over the Pirates. A three-run second inning was decisive. Dale Murphy led off with a single, Mike Lum walked and Barry Bonnell forced him at second. Rain then delayed the game for 29 minutes. After play was resumed, Glenn Hubbard singled to score Murphy. Darrel Chaney followed with a two-run double.

Reds 8, Cubs 7 at Chicago (day game):
After building up an early 7-0 lead, the Reds hung on to edge the Cubs, 8-7, when Dave Concepcion homered in the sixth inning for what proved to be the game-winning run. Concepcion also doubled and scored in the third and singled to drive in two of the Reds' five runs in the fourth. Bobby Murcer, Bill Buckner and Jerry Martin each batted in a pair for the Cubs.

Cardinals 4, Astros 1 at Houston (night game):
A three-run homer by George Hendrick lifted the Cardinals to a 4-1 decision over the Astros. The score was 1-1 going into the eighth inning when Keith Hernandez singled and Ted Simmons drew a walk. Hendrick then unloaded into the left field seats. The Cards had tied the game in the seventh on a pinch-hit homer by Dane Iorg, his first major league round-tripper.

Dodgers 3, Mets 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Joe Ferguson produced the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning as the Dodgers edged the Mets, 3-2. With the score 2-2, Dusty Baker led off the seventh with a double, advanced to third on a single by Gary Thomasson and scored on Ferguson's fly ball to deep right field.

Phillies 9, Padres 8 at San Diego (night game):
A two-run double by Pete Rose in the top of the 12th inning enabled the Phils to post a 9-8 victory over the Padres. Rudy Meoli walked to begin the winning rally. Meoli advanced to second on a sacrifice by Dave Rader and Bake McBride drew a walk. Larry Bowa singled to left, but Meoli was cut down at the plate on Jerry Turner's throw to Bill Fahey. Rose then followed with his double. The Padres scored in the bottom of the 12th on a triple by Ozzie Smith and a single by Dan Briggs.

Expos 4, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
Yielding only a first-inning single to Terry Whitfield, Scott Sanderson pitched the Expos to a 4-0 blanking of the Giants. The first run came in the fifth inning when Ellis Valentine singled, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher John Tamargo and scored on a single by Andre Dawson. Larry Parrish hit a home run in the ninth to back the one-hit effort.
