Today's scores and summaries:

A's 4, Orioles 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A one-hitter by Mike Norris carried the A's to a 4-2 triumph over the Orioles. Norris had a no-hitter for 6 1/3 innings when Eddie Murray reached first on an error by first baseman Dave Revering. After Lee May drew a walk, Gary Roenicke lined a two-run double to center that Dwayne Murphy just missed on a diving attempt. The A's broke the 2-2 tie in the ninth. Wayne Gross, who homered earlier in the game, drew a leadoff walk, went to third on a single by Revering and scored on a single by Mario Guerrero. Jeff Newman then closed the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Red Sox 9, Angels 8 at Boston (night game):
A two-run homer by Carl Yastrzemski in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 9-8 triumph over the Angels. The Angels had taken a 8-7 lead in the top of the frame on a two-run homer by Brian Downing. In the Sox' half, Jim Rice drew a one-out walk and Yaz then belted the ball deep into the right field seats. Fred Lynn clouted a two-run homer in the sixth and a three-run clout in the seventh, giving him 13 for the season.

White Sox 5, Tigers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Winning their first game in Detroit since 1977, the White Sox edged the Tigers, 5-4. A bases-loaded walk to Ralph Garr gave the Sox their first of three runs in the third inning. A second tally crossed the plate on a groundout and a third on a wild pitch. Bill Nahorodny drove in a run with a single in the fourth and Garr accounted for the game-deciding marker with a homer in the seventh.

Indians 8, Brewers 7 at Milwaukee (night game):
Led by Bobby Bonds, who had a homer, three singles and three RBIs, the Indians outlasted the Brewers, 8-7. Bonds singled and scored in the first inning, smashed a two-run homer in the third and delivered an RBI single in the fourth. Toby Harrah blasted a solo homer in the fourth.

Yankees 5, Mariners 0 at New York (night game):
Posting his third complete game and first shutout of the season, Ed Figueroa pitched the Yankees to a 5-0 decision over the Mariners. The Yankees scored a run in the fourth inning on consecutive singles by Graig Nettles, Reggie Jackson and Lou Piniella and added four more in the seventh with a three-run homer by Jackson climaxing the assault.

Royals 4, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
Taking advantage of errors, the Royals edged the Rangers, 4-3. The first Ranger misplay contributed to the Royals' two runs in the first inning. A single by Darrell Porter drove in the first run, but the second came across when center fielder Al Oliver's throw sailed into the dugout. The Royals took a 3-0 lead in the seventh when Amos Otis singled home George Brett after an error by left fielder Johnny Grubb. Steve Braun smacked a solo homer in the ninth.

Pirates 17, Braves 9 at Atlanta (night game):
In a 26-hit slugfest, the Pirates prevailed over the Braves 17-9.
