Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Red Sox 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Snapping a tie with a three-run pinch-homer by Pat Kelly in the 10th inning, the Orioles prevailed over the Red Sox, 5-2. The winning surge began with a one-out single by Billy Smith. Mark Belanger sacrificed and reached base safely when Sox third baseman Butch Hobson committed a throwing error. Kelly, batting for Rick Dempsey, then belted a pitch over the right field fence to end the game.

White Sox 6, A's 1 at Chicago (night game):
A homer by Chet Lemon with two men on base capped a four-run outburst in the fifth inning that carried the White Sox to a 6-1 victory over the A's. Bill Nahorodny started the rally with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Don Kessinger and scored on a single by Junior Moore. After Claudell Washington drew a walk, Lemon unloaded his round-tripper against a 25-mile-per-hour wind.

Tigers 4, Yankees 3 at Detroit (night game):
A hit batsman with the bases loaded in the ninth inning gave the Tigers a 4-3 victory over the Yankees. Phil Mankowski drew a one-out walk. After a single by Mark Wagner and walk to Ron LeFlore loaded the bases, Jim Kaat replaced losing reliever Ken Clay on the mound for the Yankees. One out later, Kaat hit Steve Kemp with a 1-and-2 delivery, forcing in the Tigers' winning run.

Brewers 1, Angels 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Notching his second straight shutout, Bill Travers pitched the Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Angels. The only run of the game came across on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. After a two-out single by Paul Molitor, infield hit by Sal Bando and walk to Gorman Thomas loaded the sacks, Angel hurler Don Aase then threw a wild pitch to pinch-hitter Charlie Moore, allowing Molitor to score.

Rangers 7, Twins 2 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers hit a club record-tying five homers, including three by Al Oliver, in a 7-2 thumping of the Twins. Oliver and Pat Putnam both homered with a man on base in the first inning to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead. Mike Jorgensen clouted a solo swat in the fourth. Oliver followed with round-trippers in the fifth and eighth to become the first Ranger slugger to hit three homers in one game at Arlington Stadium.

Indians 4, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
Getting four-hit pitching from Wayne Garland, who hurled his first complete game since 1977, the Indians edged the Blue Jays, 4-3. The Jays led, 3-2, going into the eighth inning, but the Tribe scored their decisive tallies when Andre Thornton drew a walk and Gary Alexander followed with a homer.

Braves 6, Astros 5 at Atlanta (night game):
Tony Brizzolara, with relief help from Gene Garber, gained credit for his first major league victory when the Braves edged the Astros, 6-5. The Braves trailed, 4-1, going into the bottom of the eighth inning but then scored five runs. The rally began when Darrel Chaney walked and Pepe Frias singled to kayo Astro starter J.R. Richard. Reliever Joaquin Andujar walked Charlie Spikes to load the bases and yielded a two-run single to Jerry Royster. After a sacrifice by Mike Lum, an intentional walk to Gary Matthews filled the bases. Andujar then uncorked a wild pitch to let Spikes score the tying run. When catcher Alan Ashby, after retrieving the ball, threw wildly back to the plate in an attempt to nail Spikes, Royster also scored. Rowland Office then doubled Matthews home with the fifth run of the frame.

Expos 3, Pirates 0 at Montreal (night game):
Posting his third straight home victory for the Expos, Steve Rogers shut out the Pirates, 3-0. The first run of the game scored in the fourth inning when Rodney Scott beat out a bunt and tallied on a triple by Tony Perez. The Expos scored two more in the eighth. Andre Dawson singled, stole second and came home when Scott beat out an infield hit and Buc reliever Kent Tekulve, covering first, dropped the throw. Scott then stole second and scored on a single by Warren Cromartie.

Cardinals 3, Phillies 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Using the stolen base as a potent weapon, the Cardinals ran past the Phillies, 3-1. In the third inning, Ken Oberkfell singled, stole second and scored on a single by Garry Templeton, who then stole second and scored on a single by Keith Hernandez. The Redbirds added their final tally in the fourth when Tony Scott walked, stole second and scored on a double by Ken Reitz.

Dodgers 4, Padres 2 at San Diego (night game):
A two-run double by Steve Garvey highlighted a three-run outburst in the fifth inning that carried the Dodgers to a 4-2 triumph over the Padres. The Dodgers trailed, 2-1, entering the fifth but surged ahead on singles by Gary Thomasson and Bill Russell, Garvey's two-bagger and a single by Dusty Baker. The Dodgers scored their first run in the fourth on Baker's triple and an infield out by Derrel Thomas. Burt Hooton won for the first time since May 7.

Reds 5, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
Winning for the fifth straight time, Mike LaCoss pitched the Reds to a 5-0 victory over the Giants. The Reds tallied four of their runs on homers. In the second inning, Johnny Bench clouted a leadoff drive and, after Dan Driessen singled, Dave Collins also unloaded a round-tripper for his first in the N. L. Ray Knight added a solo swat in the fourth frame. The shutout was the second in LaCoss' career. All three Reds' homers came off Vida Blue, who lost his third straight decision.
