Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Red Sox 3 at Baltimore (night game):
A two-run homer by Kiko Garcia climaxed a rally in the sixth inning that lifted the Orioles to a 5-3 decision over the Red Sox. Singles by Eddie Murray and John Lowenstein and a sacrifice fly by Gary Roenicke produced the tying tally. Then, with two out, Garcia belted the decisive round-tripper, giving Dennis Martinez his seventh straight victory.

White Sox 10, A's 1 at Chicago (night game):
Pacing a 14-hit assault, Lamar Johnson drove in four runs as the White Sox rolled to a 10-1 rout of the A's. Johnson drove in first tally with a second-inning single and singled and scored in the fourth when the White Sox erupted for five runs. Bill Nahorodny and Ralph Garr each drove in a pair. Johnson accounted for his three other RBIs with a bases-loaded double in the sixth.

Royals 5, Mariners 4 at Kansas City (night game):
A run-scoring single by Amos Otis snapped a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning, enabling the Royals to edge the Mariners, 5-4. Pinch-hitter Steve Braun opened the Royals' eighth with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Freddie Patek, who took second on a sacrifice bunt by Willie Wilson. After George Brett was walked intentionally, Otis drilled a single for the game-winning hit. The Mariners had tied the contest in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Bruce Bochte and two-run homer by Willie Horton.

Brewers 9, Angels 6 at Milwaukee (day game):
Unloading a 14-hit bombardment, the Brewers completed the three-game series sweep by thumping the Angels, 9-6. After taking a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, the Brewers erupted for five runs in the third. Cecil Cooper singled, Dick Davis doubled and Ben Oglivie slammed a three-run homer. One out later, Sal Bando also homered and after two walks, Jim Gantner stroked a single to drive in the fifth run of the frame.

[DH] Cubs 9, Mets 7 (night game) / Mets 4, Cubs 2 at New York (night game):
Snapping their six-game losing streak, the Cubs won the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 9-7, but then dropped the nightcap to the Mets, 4-2. The Cubs counted six runs in the first three innings of the lidlifter, including two on a homer by Barry Foote and three that were unearned as the result of an error by Richie Hebner. Steve Ontiveros then homered with a man on base in the fifth and Scot Thompson iced the decision with a run-scoring single in the eighth. Hebner and Joel Youngblood each had two RBls for the Mets. Pat Zachry, making his first start in five weeks after coming off the disabled list, combined on a six-hitter with Skip Lockwood to give the Mets their split. With the score tied, 2-2, the Mets broke away in the fifth with a single by Lee Mazzilli, pass to Montanez, single by Steve Henderson and sacrifice fly by Ron Hodges. The Mets grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third when Youngblood scored on an error and Willie Montanez had an RBI single.

Giants 2, Reds 1 at San Francisco (night game):
Taking advantage of two errors, the Giants edged the Reds, 2-1. The Giants' first tally came in the fifth inning when Bill North reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Dave Concepcion and scored on a single by Terry Whitfield. After the Reds tied the score, Mike Sadek opened the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Phil Nastu. After North walked, Dave Tomlin relieved starter Paul Moskau on the mound for the Reds and retired Whitfield on a foul pop. Pedro Borbon then replaced Tomlin and got Jack Clark to hit a pop fly behind second base, but Joe Morgan dropped the ball for an error and a run scored.
