Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 5, Yankees 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
Pushing across three runs in the ninth inning, the Brewers upended the Yankees, 5-4. With the Brewers trailing, 4-2, Ben Oglivie and Sixton Lezcano opened the ninth with singles. Ray Burris relieved Ken Clay on the mound for the Yankees and was greeted with a single by Robin Yount that filled the bases. Ron Davis replaced Burris and yielded a two-run double to Gorman Thomas. Following an intentional walk to Charlie Moore, Paul Molitor singled to plate the winning run.

Twins 13, A's 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Ron Jackson and Jose Morales each had three hits, including a homer apiece, as the Twins pounded out a 13-2 victory over the A's. Jackson drove in four runs. Rick Langford, who started for the A's, left the game because of a muscle pull in the first inning after yielding a single by Hosken Powell and issuing a walk to Butch Wynegar. When both runners scored after Dave Hamilton relieved, Langford became the loser.

Mariners 12, Angels 10 at Seattle (night game):
Bruce Bochte and Dan Meyer each hit a three-run homer and combined for nine RBIs, powering the Mariners to a 12-10 triumph over the Angels. Their slugging outburst negated a two-homer, five-RBI performance by the Angels' Bobby Grich. The Angels built an early 6-1 lead, but the Mariners tied it with a five-run burst in the fifth inning, capped by Meyer's three-run blast. Grich's second homer with a man on base in the sixth put the Angels up, 8-6, but in the Mariners' half, Larry Milbourne singled, Julio Cruz walked and Bochte then unloaded his circuit clout. In addition to the homers, Bochte hit two singles and Meyer had a sacrifice fly.

Red Sox 3, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
The Red Sox picked up their first victory at Arlington Stadium since 1977 when they edged the Rangers, 3-2, in 12 innings. George Scott batted for Gary Allenson and walked on four pitches to set up the winning run. Jim Dwyer, running for Scott, stole second and scored on a single by Jerry Remy. The Rangers had tied the score in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out RBI single by Bump Wills.

Tigers 1, Blue Jays 0 at Toronto (night game):
Pat Underwood, making his major league debut against his brother Tom, combined with two relievers on a three-hitter to shut out the Blue Jays, 1-0, and give the Tigers their sixth straight victory. The only run of the game came in the eighth inning when Jerry Morales homered.

Astros 3, Reds 0 at Houston (night game):
Scattering seven hits, Rick Williams pitched the Astros to a 3-0 triumph over the Reds, completing the three-game series sweep and sending the Astros into first place in the N. L. West. All runs came in the sixth inning. Craig Reynolds stroked a leadoff single and Cesar Cedeno walked on four pitches. Jose Cruz then belted the first offering from Fred Norman over the right field wall for a three-run round-tripper.

Dodgers 12, Giants 10 at Los Angeles (day game):
A seven-run fourth inning carried the Dodgers to a 12-10 victory over the Giants, who suffered their sixth straight loss. The Dodgers loaded the bases three times in the fourth. Davey Lopes drove in two runs with a double and Steve Garvey sent two more home with a single. Garvey also hit a homer in the sixth and accounted for his fourth RBI of the game with a double in the seventh.

Expos 1, Phillies 0 at Montreal (day game):
The six-hit pitching of Scott Sanderson enabled the Expos to edge the Phillies, 1-0, and complete the three-game series sweep, all by shutouts. The Expos scored the game's only run in the first inning when Andre Dawson doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice by Rodney Scott and scored on a sacrifice fly by Warren Cromartie.

Pirates 4, Cubs 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A single by Tim Foli drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning and gave the Pirates a 4-3 victory over the Cubs and extended their winning streak to five games. Ed Ott led off the 10th with a single. After Dale Berra struck out, singles by Phil Garner and pinch-hitter Manny Sanguillen loaded the bases. Ott was forced at the plate on a grounder by Omar Moreno before Foli got his game-winning hit.

Padres 3, Braves 1 at San Diego (day game):
The Padres won their fifth straight game, defeating the Braves, 3-1, behind the five-hit pitching of Eric Rasmussen and Rollie Fingers. The Padres scored their first run in the third inning when Gene Tenace doubled, moved to third on an infield out and scored on a single by Gene Richards. In the sixth, ozzie Smith drew a walk and Dave Winfield followed with a home run.

Cardinals 9, Mets 6 at St. Louis (day game):
Blasting off for five runs in the first inning, the Cardinals went on to defeat the Mets, 9-6. In the opening frame, Garry Templeton singled, Lou Brock walked and Keith Hernandez cracked a homer for a 3-0 lead before a batter was retired. Later in that frame, the Cards picked up two more runs, one on a round-tripper by George Hendrick, who also had three singles in the game. Brock hit two singles to raise his league-leading batting average to .381.
