Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Twins 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A two-out single by Lee May in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Mark Belanger from third base and lifted the Orioles to a 3-2 triumph over the Twins. Belanger opened the Birds' 10th with a base on balls and moved to second on a single by Ken Singleton. A sacrifice bunt by Eddie Murray moved the runners along and after Gary Roenicke popped out, May delivered the game-winning blow to left field.

Red Sox 13, Rangers 5 at Boston (night game):
The Red Sox trundled up their heavy artillery and bombarded the Rangers, 13-5, as Jim Rice and Carl Yastrzemski each homered and knocked in three runs apiece and Rick Burleson clouted his first career grand slam. The Sox picked up three runs in their first turn at bat on RBI doubles by Rice and Carlton Fisk sandwiched around a run-scoring infield out by Yastrzemski. They added a pair in the third on an RBI triple by Rice and sacrifice fly by Yastrzemski and exploded for eight runs in the fifth frame. Rice and Yaz led off the fifth with consecutive homers, Butch Hobson smacked an RBI triple and after three straight walks, Burleson unloaded his round-tripper into the left field screen.

Angels 4, Blue Jays 2 at California (night game):
A triple by Dan Ford keyed a two-run sixth inning that lifted the Angels to a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Bert Campaneris opened the Angel sixth with a single and scored on a triple by Ford off the center field fence. Don Baylor followed with a single that plated Ford.

Brewers 6, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
Scattering eight hits, Mike Caldwell pitched the Brewers to a 6-0 blanking of the White Sox, the ace lefty's third shutout of the season. Paul Molitor led off the game for the Brewers with a triple and walks to Cecil Cooper and Sixton Lezcano loaded the bases. Ben Oglivie then unloaded his first career grand slam homer.

Yankees 8, Royals 3 at New York (night game):
A seven-run sixth inning carried the Yankees to an 8-3 thumping of the Royals as Tommy John became the majors' first 10-game winner. In the Yank sixth, Graig Nettles doubled and scored on a double by Chris Chambliss. Roy White walked and Jim Spencer stroked an RBI single. After Mickey Rivers received an intentional walk to load the sacks, Willie Randolph tripled to center and subsequently scored on a wild pitch. After Thurman Munson walked, Steve Mingori replaced Rich Gale on the mound for the Royals and yielded a single to Nettles and an RBI single to Lou Piniella.

Indians 5, A's 4 at Oakland (night game):
After blowing a 4-1 lead in the ninth inning, the Indians pushed across a run in the top of the 14th to finally edge the A's, 5-4. The Tribe began their winning rally when Paul Dade singled and went to second on a groundout. Bobby Bonds and Andre Thornton then drew walks to load the bases and Rick Manning delivered a sacrifice fly to medium center to plate Dade. The A's had tied the score with three runs in the ninth, the outburst being capped by a two-out, two-run single by Larry Murray on a 3-2 pitch.

Mariners 11, Tigers 2 at Seattle (night game):
Laying down a club-record barrage of six homers, the Mariners humiliated the Tigers, 11-2. Bruce Bochte and Ruppert Jones each blasted three-run round-trippers and Willie Horton, John Hale, Dan Meyer and Larry Cox contributed solo blasts. Bochte's clout came in the first inning and followed walks to Julio Cruz and Jones. Jones connected in the eighth frame.

Expos 8, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Bill Lee hurled a four-hitter for his 100th career victory as the Expos breezed to an 8-1 rout of the Braves. Four of the Expos' runs were unearned as the Braves committed four errors. Gary Carter drove in three runs on a pair of singles and a homer.

Mets 6, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Backed by a 12-hit attack, Craig Swan hurled the Mets to a 6-2 triumph over the Reds as Tom Seaver lost his third straight and failed to win in his last six starts. The Mets scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Frank Taveras and they added two more runs in the third on run-scoring singles by Lee Mazzilli and Richie Hebner. The final three markers came in the ninth on solo homers by Steve Henderson and Joel Youngblood and an RBI double by Mazzilli. Seaver and Dan Driessen had homers to account for the Reds' runs.

Astros 3, Phillies 0 at Houston (night game):
Roaring to their seventh straight victory, the Astros downed the Phillies, 3-0, as rookie Randy Niemann tossed his first major league shutout. The Astros scored twice in the fourth inning as Terry Puhl doubled and scored on a single by Craig Reynolds. After a groundout, Jose Cruz tripled home Reynolds. The Astros added a run in the seventh on a double by Jeff Leonard and single by Alan Ashby. It was the eighth loss in nine games for the Phils, who were blanked four times during that stretch.

Dodgers 4, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Four-hit pitching by rookie Sutcliffe, his fifth victory in his last six decisions, enabled the Dodgers to defeat the Pirates, 4-2. Joe Ferguson gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a homer after Dusty Baker reached base on a walk. Steve Garvey had an RBI double in the third inning and Bill Russell stroked a run-scoring two-bagger in the fifth. The Bucs' tallies came on a two-run inside-the-park round-tripper by Dave Parker in the fourth frame, his second inside-the-park clout this season.
