Johnson homered in the fifth, May in the sixth and Soderholm in the seventh.

Blue Jays 5, Angels 4 at California (night game):
Snapping a personal 12-game losing streak dating back to last August, Jesse Jefferson pitched a complete game to achieve the victory as the Blue Jays edged the Angels, 5-4. The score was tied, 3-3, in the ninth when Alfredo Griffin started the Blue Jay rally with a one-out bunt single. Danny Ainge followed with a triple to right and scored on a grounder by Roy Howell. The Angels had homers by Tom Donohue, his first in the majors, in the third, by Dan Ford in the eighth and by Bobby Grich in the ninth.

Brewers 4, Rangers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Gorman Thomas smashed a homer and Cecil Cooper rapped out three hits to spark the Brewers to a 4-3 victory over the Rangers. Thomas clouted his round-tripper with a man on base to tie the game at 2-2 in the second inning. After a solo homer by Pat Putnam put the Rangers back ahead, 3-2, in the fifth, the Brewers scored twice in their half. Cooper drove in one run with a double and Sixto Lezcano followed with the winning single.

Yankees 3, Twins 2 at New York (night game):
A pinch-single by Jim Spencer with two out in the ninth lifted the Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Twins. Graig Nettles opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Darryl Jones. After Chris Chambliss walked, Mike Marshall replaced Jerry Koosman on the hill for the Twins. The Twins' ace reliever retired Roy White on a forceout before yielding Spencer's game-winning blow.

Indians 6, A's 4 at Oakland (night game):
A run-scoring triple by Duane Kuiper broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning and lifted the Indians to a 6-4 victory over the A's. Gary Alexander beat out an infield hit to open the eighth and scored two outs later on Kuiper's three-bagger. A sacrifice fly by Rick Manning gave the Indians an insurance marker in the ninth for their 16th victory in the last 23 games.

Mariners 4, Tigers 3 at Seattle (night game):
Willie Horton hit his 300th major league homer and Ruppert Jones also clouted a round-tripper to pace the Mariners to a 4-3 decision over the Tigers. Horton's swat came in the first inning and followed a double by Jones. Jones' circuit smash came in the fifth frame and tied the contest at 3-3. The Mariners scored the winning run in the sixth. Horton stroked a leadoff single but was forced at second by Dan Meyer, who moved to third on a double by Leon Roberts and tallied on a sacrifice fly by Larry Cox.

Expos 12, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Exploding for 11 runs in the fourth inning, the Expos went on to drub the Braves, 12-2. The Expos sent 15 batters to the plate and scored their first eight runs with none out. The other run followed in the eighth when pinch-hitter Steve Dillard singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Bill Buckner.

Mets 5, Reds 3 at Cincinnati (day game):
A four-run eruption in the seventh inning carried the Mets to a 5-3 triumph over the Reds. The Mets trailed, 2-1, when John Stearns and Elliott Maddox led off the decisive frame with singles. Doug Flynn doubled to score Stearns, Maddox was out at the plate on a grounder by Alex Trevino, but Joel Youngblood doubled, driving in Flynn, and Frank Taveras followed with a single, scoring Trevino and Youngblood.

Astros 4, Phillies 3 at Houston (night game):
A three-run pinch-homer by Denny Walling in the seventh inning highlighted the Astros' come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Phillies. The Astros trailed, 3-0, in the seventh when Jose Cruz and Art Howe opened with consecutive singles. Ron Reed relieved starter Randy Lerch for the Phillies and struck out pinch-hitter Bob Watson, but Walling, batting for Astro starter J.R. Richard, hit a 2-and-2 pitch over the right field wall. The Astros then scored the winning run in the eighth when Cesar Cedeno singled and, after one out, stole second. Enos Cabell followed with an infield single. Cruz then bounced to short and beat out the double-play attempt as Cedeno raced across the plate.

Pirates 5, Dodgers 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A pair of homers by Bill Robinson, including a two-run shot that climaxed a four-run rally in the eighth inning, powered the Pirates to a 5-4 triumph over the Dodgers. The Bucs trailed, 4-1, in the eighth when Steve Nicosia led off with a single and reached second when Dodger pitcher Jerry Reuss threw poorly to the bag after fielding a grounder by Manny Sanguillen. Reuss was derricked in favor of Terry Forster and Omar Moreno stroked a single to load the bases. An infield groundout by Tim Foli produced one run and another tallied on a sacrifice fly by Dave Parker. Bob Welch then relieved Forster and served up a gopher ball to Robinson.

Cardinals 6, Giants 5 at St. Louis (night game):
Pushing across a run in the eighth inning, the Cardinals scored their seventh consecutive victory, downing the Giants, 6-5. Tony Scott led off the inning with an infield hit and moved to second on a sacrifice by Ken Reitz. After Ken Oberkfell received an intentional pass, Gary Lavelle replaced Randy Moffitt on the mound for the Giants. Pinch-hitter Lou Brock popped out, but Templeton followed with a single to plate Scott with the winning run. Two homers by Jack Clark and one by Larry Herndon had given the Giants a 5-3 lead before the Cards rallied to tie the score with four singles in the seventh.
