Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
Aided by half a dozen infield defensive gems, Scott McGregor pitched the Orioles to a 6-0 whitewashing of the White Sox for his first victory of the season. The first Bird run came in the third inning on a double by Rich Dauer and triple by Kiko Garcia. The Orioles picked up three more tallies in the fifth on a two-run single by Ken Singleton and a passed ball. Al Bumbry knocked in two runs with a pinch-single in the sixth.

Angels 9, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
Exploding for six runs in the ninth inning, the Angels topped the Indians, 9-4. Carney Lansford walked with one out and raced to third on a single by Dan Ford. A walk to Don Baylor filled the bases and brought on Don Hood in relief of Dan Spiliner. Willie Aikens was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run and Hood departed in favor of Mike Paxton, who yielded a two-run double to pinch-hitter Brian Downing. Larry Harlow followed with a two-run single and Dickie Thon drove in the final tally with a two-bagger.

Tigers 3, A's 1 at Detroit (night game):
Jack Morris scattered nine hits as the Tigers posted a 3-1 verdict over the A's. A single by Lou Whitaker, walk to Rusty Staub and RBI single by Jason Thompson netted the Tigers a run in the first inning. They picked up two more tallies in the fourth on a single by Phil Mankowski, a sacrifice bunt, fielder's choice grounder by Ron LeFlore, single by Whitaker, RBI single by Steve Kemp and run-scoring single by Staub.

Red Sox 4, Royals 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Scoring four runs on just one hit in the top of the 10th inning, the Red Sox prevailed over the Royals, 4-0. The Sox rally began with walks to Carlton Fisk and Butch Hobson that brought on Marty Pattin in relief of starter Steve Busby. Dwight Evans greeted Pattin with a double that scored Fisk. Al Hrabosky came on to issue an intentional walk to George Scott to load the bases. Jerry Remy dropped a sacrifice bunt in front of the plate that Hrabosky fielded and threw wildly past catcher Darrell Porter, allowing two runs to come across and Scott to reach third, from where he tallied the final run of the inning on a groundout by Rick Burleson.

Blue Jays 2, Mariners 0 at Toronto (night game):
Six-hit pitching by Dave Lemanczyk carried the Blue Jays to a 2-0 blanking of the Mariners. The Jays scored both their runs in the first inning as Alfredo Griffin and Roy Howell walked and Rico Carty followed with an infield single to load the bases. Rick Bosetti then lined a single to center, scoring Griffin and Howell.

Cardinals 9, Dodgers 7 at Los Angeles (night game):
Driving in six runs with a bases-loaded homer and a two-run circuit clout, Ted Simmons powered the Cardinals to a 9-7 triumph over the Dodgers. The grand slam was the sixth in the Redbird catcher's career and came in the third inning to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead. After the Dodgers tied the score at 7-7 with a three-run uprising in the seventh, Simmons came to bat in the top of ninth with Keith Hernandez aboard via a walk and unloaded a blast into the right field seats.

Expos 6, Braves 5 at Montreal (night game):
A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the Expos to a 6-5 decision over the Braves. The score was 5-5 when Ellis Valentine began the Expos' 11th with a single. Two outs later, a single by pinch-hitter Dave Cash and an error on Braves' right fielder Gary Matthews moved Valentine to third and brought on Adrian Devine in relief of Craig Skok. Andre Dawson received an intentional walk to load the bases and Rodney Scott then drew a base on balls on a 3-2 pitch to force home the winning run.

Mets 3, Reds 2 at New York (night game):
Wayne Twitchell pitched one-hit, scoreless ball over 5 1/3 innings of relief as the Mets came from behind to subdue the Reds, 3-2. After the Reds forged a 2-0 early lead, the Mets tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth when Alex Trevino doubled home Lee Mazzilli and Steve Henderson. In the Met fifth, Joel Youngblood walked, moved to third on a double by Frank Taveras and scored on a single by Mazzilli. Twitchell relieved Met starter Jesse Orosco with two on and two out in the fourth.

Phillies 4, Astros 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
A single by Larry Bowa plated Bud Harrelson, who collided with Astro catcher Bruce Bochy before scoring, as the Phillies snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-run rally in the seventh inning to defeat Houston, 4-2. Harrelson coaxed a walk from J.R. Richard to start the inning. Richard had beaten the Phils five straight times. Bowa then stroked a single to left to score Harrelson and Garry Maddox followed with a double to bring in Pete Rose.
