Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 13, Tigers 3 at Boston (night game):
Carl Yastrzemski, Fred Lynn, Dwight Evans, Butch Hobson, Bob Watson and Jim Dwyer crashed home runs and Mike Torrez, after surviving a three-run first inning, pitched a seven-hitter as the Red Sox trimmed the Tigers, 13-3. Two-run homers by Lynn and Yastrzemski in the third gave the Red Sox a lead they never relinquished.

Angels 5, Rangers 4 at California (night game):
Don Baylor boosted his major league-leading runs batted in total to 59 with a two-run double in the third and Bert Campaneris victimized his former teammates with three stolen bases to lead the Angels past the Rangers, 5-4. Campaneris singled, stole second and third and scored what proved to be the deciding run on Dan Ford's sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Mariners 5, White Sox 3 at Chicago (night game):
A single by Bruce Bochte in the fourth inning produced the winning run when the Mariners downed the White Sox, 5-3. Willie Horton hit his 13th homer of the season and 301st of his career in the seventh.

Orioles 5, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
Dennis Martinez posted his 10th straight victory and Gary Roenicke, Eddie Murray and Rich Dauer unloaded homers in a four-run fourth inning to lead the Orioles to a 5-3 decision over the Indians. This was the sixth victory in a row for the Orioles and the Indians' fourth straight defeat.

Brewers 8, Twins 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Brewers, with the help of errors by Ron Jackson and Roy Smalley, scored four runs on singles by Buck Martinez and Jim Gantner and Gorman Thomas' double and rolled to an 8-3 triumph over the Twins. Bill Travers pitched an eight-hitter in his seventh complete game, the 33rd for the Brewers' staff.

[DH] Yankees 2, Blue Jays 1 (night game) / Blue Jays 3, Yankees 2 at New York (night game):
The Blue Jays bounced back to beat the Yankees, 3-2, after losing the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 2-1. John Mayberry's home run with one out in the ninth inning enabled the Blue Jays to take the nightcap behind the pitching of Balor Moore, who won his first game of the season. The Yankees scored two runs in the fifth inning of the opener to give Billy Martin his first victory since returning as manager. Bucky Dent singled, scoring Juan Beniquez, who had tripled. Mickey Rivers sacrificed, advancing Dent to second. Dent took third as Willie Randolph flied out and scored the winning run on Tom Underwood's wild pitch. Don Hood, in his first appearance since he was acquired from the Indians, worked 4 2/3 innings to gain the victory.

Royals 9, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
A five-run third inning carried the Royals to a 9-2 victory over the Athletics as Paul Splittorff became a nine-game winner. Darrell Porter drove in three runs with his ninth homer, a two-run blow in the second inning, and a sacrifice fly.

Phillies 10, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
The Phillies scored five runs in the fourth en route to a 10-4 victory over the Braves. Pete Rose, with a double and homer, increased his career hit total to 3,252 and moved past Nap Lajoie to eighth place on the all-time list. A two-run double by Greg Luzinski and two-run single by Steve Carlton spiced the fourth-inning outburst.

Astros 5, Mets 4 at Houston (night game):
The Astros completed the three-game series sweep of the Mets by grinding out a 5-4 decision. Terry Puhl opened the eighth with his third single and scored the deciding run on a triple by Craig Reynolds. Joe Sambito earned the decision with two innings of one-hit relief.

Expos 5, Reds 4 at Montreal (night game):
Doubles by Tommy Hutton and Jim Mason in the 11th inning gave the Expos a 5-4 victory over the Reds. Two-run homers by Andre Dawson, in the sixth, and Larry Parrish, in the seventh, highlighted the Expos' attack.

Padres 3, Cardinals 1 at San Diego (night game):
The Padres linked singles by Jay Johnstone, Jerry Turner and Gene Tenace with an error by Dane Iorg and a wild pitch by Pete Vuckovich for three runs in a victory over the Cardinals. Gaylord Perry allowed 11 hits, but claimed his 274th career victory. The veteran righthander had five strikeouts, boosting his career total to 3,079.

Pirates 8, Giants 5 at San Francisco (day game):
The Pirates jumped Vida Blue for four runs in the first on a three-run homer by Bill Robinson and a solo clout by Lee Lacy and went on to beat the Giants, 8-5. Rennie Stennett tripled and scored the tie-breaking run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Manny Sanguillen.
