Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 3, Tigers 2 at Boston (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Fred Lynn in the eighth inning scored Jerry Remy with the tie-breaking tally as the Red Sox repulsed the Tigers, 3-2, behind Dennis Eckersley. Remy led off the eighth with a single, stole second and advanced to third as Rick Burleson bounced out. Jim Rice hit his 15th homer, a two-run blow, in the fourth.

Rangers 3, Angels 2 at California (night game):
After seeing the Angels score two runs in the ninth to tie the game, the Rangers pulled out a 3-2 victory in 11 innings. Jim Sundberg blooped a two-out single to right, scoring Richie Zisk with the deciding run. Zisk had singled, advanced to second on Nelson Norman's sacrifice and took third as Bump Wills grounded out. A two-run double by Willie Aikens in the ninth forced the game into extra innings.

White Sox 9, Mariners 5 at Chicago (night game):
Alan Bannister doubled and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Lamar Johnson as the fast-starting White Sox downed the Mariners, 9-5. Johnson also unloaded a two-run homer in the first, when the White Sox scored five runs.

The Brewers dealt the Twins their fifth straight defeat, 3-2, with Paul Molitor's bunt single scoring Robin Yount with the winning run in the seventh inning. Jerry Narron reached safely when Woods misplayed his fly ball, took third on Bucky Dent's hit-and-run single and scored on an infield out by Fred Stanley. One out later, Bobby Brown singled home Dent for his first major league RBI. The lss was Lemanczyk's first to the Yankees in five career decisions.
