Today's scores and summaries:

[DH] Orioles 6, Blue Jays 1 (night game) / Orioles 4, Blue Jays 0 at Baltimore (night game):
The seven-hit pitching of Scott McGregor in the first game and a four-hitter by Steve Stone, who needed help from Don Stanhouse for the last out in the second game, carried the Orioles to 6-1 and 4-0 victories in a sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Blue Jays. Otto Velez homered in the second inning of the lidlifter for the Blue Jays' only run. The Orioles, beating Dave Stieb in his major league debut, scored three runs in their half of the second on a bases-loaded single by Rich Dauer and an error by Bob Davis before adding three more in the sixth on a pass to Ken Singleton followed by back-to-back homers by Doug DeCinces and Lee May. In the nightcap, the Orioles continued their slugging with round-trippers by Pat Kelly and John Lowenstein. Stanhouse replaced Stone after the Blue Jays loaded the bases with two out in the ninth and retired Al Woods to end the game.

Tigers 8, Indians 6 at Detroit (night game):
Led by Lynn Jones, who drove in four runs with a homer and single, the Tigers came from behind and defeated the Indians, 8-6. After John Wockenfuss homered for the Tigers in the second inning to effect a 1-1 tie, the Indians scored five times in the third on only one hit -- a three-run double by Rick Manning. The Tigers closed the gap with three runs in the fifth before Jones swung into action with a two-run homer in the sixth and a bases-loaded single for the game-winning pair in the seventh.

Angels 6, Royals 5 at Kansas City (night game):
The Angels broke their seven-game losing streak when consecutive singles by Don Baylor, Willie Aikens and Brian Downing produced a run in the 11th inning and beat the Royals, 6-5. Baylor, snapping an 0-for-14 slump, homered with a man on base in the eighth to put the Angels ahead, 5-3, but the Royals came back with the tying pair in the ninth on a pass to Pete LaCock, double by pinch-hitter Jamie Quirk and single by Willie Wilson that drove in LaCock and pinch-runner U.L. Washington.

Mariners 3, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Leon Roberts singled three times and batted in the winning run in the eighth inning as the Mariners defeated the Brewers, 3-2. Roberts' deciding hit drove in Dan Meyer, who singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Joe Simpson. The Mariners' earlier scoring included a homer by Ruppert Jones. Meyer extended his Seattle club record hitting streak to 20 games.

Twins 5, White Sox 2 at Minnesota (night game):
Roy Smalley cracked a homer and two singles, driving in three runs, to enable Jerry Koosman to pitch the Twins to a 5-2 victory over the White Sox. Smalley batted in the Twins' initial run with a single in the first inning and hit his homer after a double by Bob Randall in the third. Lamar Johnson accounted for the White Sox pair with a homer in the eighth inning.

Red Sox 3, Yankees 2 at New York (night game):
Rick Burleson doubled in the 13th inning and scored on a single by Jerry Remy to bring the Red Sox a 3-2 victory over the Yankees. After seven innings of scoreless pitching in a duel between Mike Torrez and Ron Guidry, the Red Sox scored a run in the eighth on singles by Bob Montgomery, Burleson and Larry Wolfe. Ron Davis replaced Guidry in the ninth and was tagged for a homer by Jim Rice, but the Yankees rallied to tie the score in their half. Bobby Murcer, playing in Yankee Stadium for the first time since September 30, 1973, singled and Lou Piniella was safe on an error by Butch Hobson. One out later, Graig Nettles singled to drive in Murcer. Piniella took third and, after Bill Campbell replaced Torrez, scored the tying run on an infield out by Jim Spencer, sending the game into overtime.

Rangers 5, A's 3 at Texas (night game):
Gaining a 5-3 victory, the Rangers extended their winning streak to seven games while the A's drew their seventh straight defeat. Five of the eight runs in the game scored on sacrifice flies -- two by Larvell Blanks for the Rangers and one each by Wayne Gross, Mitchell Page and Mike Edwards for the A's. The Rangers broke a 2-2 tie and clinched the decision with three runs in the third inning. Oscar Gamble and Pat Putnam singled and Eric Soderholm was safe on an error by Gross to load the bases. Billy Sample singled, driving in two runs, and Blanks followed with his second sacrifice fly of the game for the Rangers' final tally.

Braves 5, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Jerry Royster, who scored the Braves' first two runs, knocked in their next three with a bases-loaded double in the eighth inning to beat the Dodgers, 5-2. The Dodgers tied the score at 2-2 in the seventh when Reggie Smith doubled and Ron Cey homered, but in the Braves' eighth Joe Nolan doubled, Glenn Hubbard singled and Biff Pocoroba, batting for Rick Matula, walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Royster's game-winning hit. Matula, the Braves' rookie righthander, allowed only four hits and beat the Dodgers for the third straight time with the help of Gene Garber, who pitched the last two innings and picked up his 15th save.

Pirates 6, Expos 5 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The relief pitching of Kent Tekulve, who allowed only one hit in the last 2 2/3 innings and picked up his 10th save, helped the Pirates defeat the Expos, 6-5. The Pirates jumped on Bill Lee for three runs in the first inning. Omar Moreno singled, stole second and scored on a single by Tim Foli. After Dave Parker grounded into a double play, Bill Robinson and Lee Lacy hit consecutive homers. The Pirates added a run in the third and capped their scoring with a pair in the fourth. Parker drove in one run with a single and later scored what proved to be the deciding tally on an error by Rodney Scott. The Expos routed Bruce Kison in the sixth when Tommy Hutton hit a pinch-homer with two men on base.

Astros 4, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
Starting with a homer by Terry Puhl on Gaylord Perry's first pitch of the game, the Astros went on to defeat the Padres, 4-1. The Astros added a pair in the fourth on a bases-loaded double by Rafael Landestoy and capped their scoring with a run in the fifth on singles by Craig Reynolds and Cesar Cedeno and an infield out by Jose Cruz. Dave Winfield accounted for the Padres' marker off Joaquin Andujar in the fourth inning, hitting his 15th homer.

Giants 6, Reds 4 at San Francisco (night game):
Pedro Borbon, who made his first appearance in a San Francisco uniform, pitched one inning in relief against his former teammates and came out with a victory when the Giants rallied to defeat the Reds, 6-4. The Reds held a 4-1 lead before the Giants tied the score with three runs in the seventh. Willie McCovey batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single, giving him three RBIs for the game, and Darrell Evans added a run with a single. The Giants then broke the deadlock in the eighth. With one out, Mike Sadek and Larry Herndon singled. Bill North forced Herndon at second, but Mike Ivie came up as a pinch-hitter and singled for the tie-breaking tally. Jack Clark followed with a single for an insurance run.

[DH] Phillies 8, Cardinals 7 (night game) / Cardinals 7, Phillies 1 at St. Louis (night game):
The slugging of Greg Luzinski, who drove in four runs with four hits and also scored twice, enabled the Phillies to win the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 8-7, but the Cardinals came back to gain a 7-1 victory in the nightcap. Luzinski batted in two runs with a single in the first inning of the lidlifter and doubled and scored in the third. Mike Schmidt hit a homer in the fourth to give the Phillies a 5-2 lead, but the Cardinals rallied for five runs in their half, three coming on a bases-loaded double by Ken Oberkfell. Luzinski tied the score with a two-run triple in the sixth and scored the Phillies' deciding run on a sacrifice fly by Garry Maddox. In the second game, Tony Scott and Keith Hernandez each batted in two runs to lead the Cardinals' attack, providing a split.
