Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 5, Yankees 4 at California (day game):
Driving in all five of his team's runs, including two on a game-winning homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, Bobby Grich lifted the Angels to a 5-4 triumph over the Yankees. The Angels trailed, 4-3, in the ninth, when Tom Donohue drew a one-out walk. One out later, Grich connected for his round-tripper off Ron Guidry. Grich singled in one run in the third and doubled home two more in the seventh.

Tigers 14, White Sox 5 at Chicago (day game):
Five hits by Steve Kemp paced a 20-hit attack as the Tigers routed the White Sox, 14-5. The Tigers sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth inning and scored six times. Kemp opened the outburst with a single and capped it with a run-scoring single. Kemp and Lou Whitaker each accounted for three RBIs in the game.

Royals 4, Rangers 3 at Kansas City (day game):
The Royals ended their seven-game losing streak by edging the Rangers, 4-3. The Royals got two runs in the fifth inning when John Wathan and Willie Wilson stroked two-out singles and Ranger left fielder Billy Sample misjudged a line drive by Todd Cruz and the ball sailed over his head for a double. The Royals added another pair in the sixth on a pass to Amos Otis, double by George Scott and singles by Al Cowens and Darrell Porter. All three of the Rangers' runs came on homers by Bump Wills, Buddy Bell and Jim Sundberg.

Brewers 10, Indians 4 at Milwaukee (day game):
Erupting for seven runs in the second inning, the Brewers recorded their fifth straight victory, beating the Indians, 10-4. Ben Oglivie led off the big inning with a walk and Sixto Lezcano was hit by a pitch. Back-to-back triples by Sal Bando and Robin Yount made the score 3-0. Yount scored on a double by Buck Martinez, who went to third on a single by Jim Gantner and tallied on a sacrifice fly by Don Money. After a two-out single by Gorman Thomas, a double by Oglivie drove in the final pair of runs.

Red Sox 3, A's 2 at Oakland (day game):
Defensive blunders in the ninth inning handed the Red Sox a 3-2 victory over the A's. The Red Sox trailed, 2-1, when Jim Rice got an infield hit. Carl Yastrzemski hit an apparent double-play bouncer to third but reached safely when nobody covered second base. The bases became loaded when Bob Watson reached first on an error by shortstop Dave Chalk. Carlton Fisk drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Jim Dwyer, running for Yaz, scored when third baseman Jim Essian threw poorly to home on a grounder by Butch Hobson.

Orioles 6, Mariners 1 at Seattle (day game):
Registering his 12th complete game, Dennis Martinez unfurled a four-hitter in pitching the Orioles to a 6-1 victory over the Mariners. The Birds opened the scoring in the third inning on an infield hit by Al Bumbry, double by Ken Singleton and single by Eddie Murray. Singleton hit a two-run homer in the fifth. The Orioles closed out the scoring in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Rich Dauer and a wild pitch.

Twins 9, Blue Jays 4 at Toronto (day game):
The first career grand slam by Dave Edwards sparked the Twins to a 9-4 thumping of the Blue Jays. With the Twins trailing, 2-1, in the third inning, Glenn Adams singled and Butch Wynegar and Ron Jackson drew walks to set the stage for Edwards' blast. John Castino drilled a three-run double in the fifth and Wynegar connected for a solo homer in the seventh.

Pirates 7, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Consecutive homers by Willie Stargell and Bill Robinson highlighted the Pirates' 7-3 victory over the Braves. A run-scoring single by Bill Madlock put the Bucs ahead, 2-1, in the fourth inning before Stargell and Robinson unloaded on consecutive trips to the plate in the sixth. It was the eighth time the Pirates have hit back-to-back homers this season.

Reds 7, Cubs 1 at Cincinnati (day game):
Winning his seventh straight game, Tom Seaver pitched the Reds to a 7-1 victory over the Cubs. The Reds got three runs in the first inning on a single by Ken Griffey, pass to George Foster, single by Harry Spilman and double by Ray Knight. Dave Concepcion belted a three-run homer in the fourth and also hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Cardinals 3, Astros 1 at Houston (day game):
Rookie John Fulgham outdueled veteran J.R. Richard as the Cards downed the Astros, 3-1. The Redbirds scored their first run in the second inning when Keith Hernandez walked, went to third on a single by Dane Iorg and tallied on a groundout by Terry Kennedy. A double by Ken Oberkfell and single by Mike Phillips produced a marker in the seventh inning and the final run came in the eighth on a walk and a double by Hernandez.

Expos 4, Padres 0 at Montreal (day game):
A two-run homer by Ellis Valentine and pair of solo swats by Andre Dawson powered the Expos to a 4-0 victory over the Padres. Valentine's blast came in the fourth inning and followed a two-out single by Gary Carter. Dawson connected in the sixth and eighth frames. Expos' starter Scott Sanderson was forced to leave the game after five innings because of a finger injury he incurred while batting. Elias Sosa took over and limited the Padres to just one hit over the final four innings.

Giants 4, Mets 0 at New York (day game):
Three Giants' pitchers, Ed Whitson, Phil Nastu and Pedro Borbon, combined to shut out the Mets, 4-0. The Giants scored in the first inning when Bill North singled, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher John Stearns and came home on a sacrifice fly by Darrell Evans. Evans walked and Mike Ivie doubled him home in the third inning. Marc Hill clouted a round-tripper in the sixth and Ivie added a homer in the eighth.

Phillies 10, Dodgers 3 at Philadelphia (day game):
An eight-run explosion in the third inning propelled the Phillies to a 10-3 victory over the Dodgers. The Phils loaded the bases in the third with a single by Randy Lerch and walks to Bake McBride and Larry Bowa. A walk to Pete Rose forced in one run and after Mike Schmidt struck out, Bob Boone singled home two tallies. A double by Del Unser made it 5-0. Greg Gross walked and Manny Trillo stroked a run-scoring single. Lerch then bunted to reliever Jerry Reuss, who threw wildly to first, Gross and Trillo scoring on the error.
