Today's scores and summaries:

[DH] Orioles 7, Mariners 6 (night game) / Orioles 11, Mariners 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Extending their winning streak to seven games, the Orioles captured both ends of a doubleheader from the Mariners, 7-6 and 11-3. In the first game, Ken Singleton accounted for the eventual winning run with a homer in the sixth inning after knocking in two other runs with a double in the first and sacrifice fly in the second. Doug DeCinces accounted for two RBIs with a double and single. In the nightcap, John Lowenstein batted in six runs, including four on his second career grand slam.

Red Sox 7, A's 3 at Boston (night game):
Carl Yastrzemski cracked his 400th career homer and Dwight Evans smashed a two-run round-tripper to lead the Red Sox to a 7-3 victory over the A's. Yaz' blast came in the seventh inning with Jim Rice aboard via a fielder's choice. Evans' blow came in the eighth with Butch Hobson on base after hitting a triple. Yastrzemski also drove in a run with a single in the first inning and Evans batted in one with a single in the sixth.

Royals 11, White Sox 6 at Chicago (night game):
A seven-run explosion in the eighth inning carried the Royals to an 11-6 verdict over the White Sox. The Royals trailed, 6-4, in the eighth when George Brett and Al Cowens opened with singles that sent Sox starter Ken Kravec to the showers. Guy Hoffman relieved, gave up an RBI single to Darrell Porter and was derricked in favor of Ed Farmer. After Cowens scored the tying run on a passed ball, Steve Braun was given an intentional walk and Jamie Quirk, batting for Freddie Patek, clouted a triple to put the Royals ahead, 8-6. The last three runs of the inning resulted from an error by catcher Milt May, an infield out by Amos Otis and triple by Brett.

Brewers 5, Tigers 4 at Detroit (night game):
Home runs by Gorman Thomas and Buck Martinez enabled the Brewers to overcome a pair of homers by Lance Parrish and post a 5-4 decision over the Tigers. Thomas connected in the sixth inning and Martinez in the seventh to give the Brewers a 5-2 lead and hand Tiger rookie southpaw Pat Underwood his first loss after five straight victories. Parrish's round-trippers were solo shots in the fourth and seventh innings.

Indians 4, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
A two-run homer by Cliff Johnson in the ninth inning lifted the Indians to a 4-2 victory over the Twins. Johnson's blast scored Mike Hargrove, who had singled to lead off the frame. Rick Wise yielded four hits and two runs in the first inning but blanked the Twins the rest of way to record his 10th win while going the distance for the fourth time this season.

Yankees 6, Angels 5 at New York (night game):
A pinch-single by Lou Piniella in the seventh inning snapped a 5-5 tie and lifted the Yankees to a 6-5 triumph over the Angels. Jerry Narron drew a one-out walk in the seventh and moved to second on a single by Chris Chambliss. After Reggie Jackson struck out, Piniella batted for Jim Spencer and lined the first serve from Dave LaRoche into center field to score Narron. The Angels had tied the game in the fifth inning on homers by Rod Carew and Dan Ford.

Astros 6, Cubs 1 at Houston (night game):
Four-hit pitching by Ken Forsch carried the Astros to a 6-1 victory over the Cubs. After an infield single by Jose Cruz drove in one run in the first inning, the Astros scored three more times in the fourth on an error by Cub shortstop Ivan DeJesus and two-run double by Julio Gonzalez. A squeeze bunt by Jeff Leonard in the sixth plated another tally and the final Astro run came in the seventh, aided by another Cub error.

Dodgers 15, Phillies 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
A grand slam by Dusty Baker and three-run homer by Ron Cey highlighted a 22-hit attack as the Dodgers routed the Phillies, 15-3. Cey's blast came as part of a five-run, third-inning outburst. Baker connected in the sixth when the Dodgers also scored five times.

Reds 6, Pirates 5 at Pittsburgh (night game):
In a game marked by a prolonged argument, the Reds edged the Pirates, 6-5. The Reds scored four runs in the first inning on six singles and added their other pair on a homer by Ken Griffey in the seventh. The argument developed in the fourth inning after Bill Madlock hit a two-run homer for the Pirates. With Phil Garner at third and Lee Lacy at first, Lacy broke for second on a pitch to Omar Moreno and was tagged out, according to umpire Dick Stello. However, plate ump Dave Pallone called ball four, entitling Lacy to second base. Lacy, unaware of the call at the plate, started to return to the dugout and he was tagged out by Red shortstop Dave Concepcion. An argument developed over whether Lacy was out or safe and it appeared for a while that the umps would allow him to return to his base. After a 34-minute argument on both sides, the umps eventually ruled Moreno had walked and Lacy was safe at second rather than caught stealing. But they also ruled he was out when subsequently tagged by Concepcion, triggering a Pirate protest.

Padres 4, Expos 3 at San Diego (night game):
A single by Paul Dade drove home the winning run in the 14th inning as the Padres posted a 4-3 decision over the Expos. The score was 3-3 when Ozzie Smith opened the Padres' 14th with a walk and went to second on a groundout. After Dave Winfield was walked intentionally, Dade blooped the first pitch into short center to score Smith.

Mets 6, Giants 5 at San Francisco (night game):
The Mets scored two runs in the 12th inning to defeat the Giants, 6-5. The score was 4-4 when Joel Youngblood led off the Mets' 12th with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and came home on a single by Alex Trevino. Singles by Willie Montanez and John Stearns gave the Mets the needed marker to offset a run by the Giants in their half of the 12th.

Cardinals 7, Braves 3 at St. Louis (night game):
Playing in his first game since suffering a hand injury on June 24, Ted Simmons doubled in his first turn at bat to trigger the Cardinals to a 7-3 triumph over the Braves. The Cards scored twice in the first inning on a double by Garry Templeton, single by Keith Hernandez and Simmons' two-bagger, which gave the Cards a 2-1 lead. Besides his first-inning double, Templeton had an RBI double in the second, sacrifice fly in the fourth and he tripled and scored on a single by Lou Brock in the seventh.
