Brewers 8, Orioles 4 at Baltimore (night game):
Erupting for four runs in the ninth inning, the Brewers dealt the Orioles their fourth straight defeat, 8-4. The winning rally began when Don Money singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. After advancing on an infield hit by Cecil Cooper, Money scored on a sacrifice fly by Gorman Thomas. Following a walk to Ben Oglivie, a double by Sixto Lezcano plated two more runs and a single by Sal Bando drove home another. Oglivie also had a homer in the game among the Brewers' 14 hits, while the Orioles' eight included homers by Benny Ayala and Ken Singleton.

[DH] Indians 6, Red Sox 4 (day game) / Indians 8, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
The Indians scalped the Red Sox twice, 6-4 and 8-2, in a separate admission, day-night doubleheader before a total paid crowd of 61,899. Toby Harrah and Bobby Bonds each collected three hits for the Indians in the first game. Jim Rice hit a homer to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, but the Indians tallied three times in the sixth, one run scoring on a double by Harrah and two on a single by Duane Kuiper. Bonds then provided the Indians with their winning margin, knocking in a run with a triple in the seventh and scoring himself on a wild pitch. In the night game, Dan Spillner, normally used in relief, pitched the Indians to victory with his first complete game since 1975. Tom Veryzer and Mike Hargrove each hit a two-run single. The Red Sox deprived Spillner of a shutout when Rick Burleson doubled and Fred Lynn homered in the ninth inning.

[DH] Rangers 16, Tigers 9 (night game) / Tigers 10, Rangers 4 at Detroit (night game):
After the Rangers slugged their way to a 16-9 victory in the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, the Tigers came back to capture the nightcap, 10-4. Eric Soderholm led the Ranger attack in the lidlifter with two homers, a single and sacrifice fly, driving in six runs to tie the club record for RBIs in a game. Two homers by John Wockenfuss paced the Tigers in the second contest. The Tiger left fielder connected for a bases-empty round-tripper in the second inning and clouted his first career grand slam in the third.

Yankees 4, White Sox 3 at New York (night game):
A three-run homer by Chris Chambliss capped a four-run rally in the eighth inning and lifted the Yankees to a 4-3 decision over the White Sox. Consecutive one-out singles by Willie Randolph, Bobby Murcer and Lou Piniella accounted for the first run and, one out later, Chambliss lined the ball into the right field seats for the game-winning round-tripper.

Angels 8, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
Pounding out 21 hits, the Angels routed the A's, 8-1, handing Matt Keough his 18th straight loss over two seasons. Keough tied the major league record for most defeats at the start of a season (14) and moved within one of the loop all-time record for consecutive losses. The Angels plated three runs in the third inning on a triple by Rick Miller, bunt single by Bert Campaneris and two-run homer by Don Baylor. Back-to-back homers by Joe Rudi and Bobby Grich highlighted a five-run outburst in the eighth frame.

Twins 3, Mariners 1 at Seattle (night game):
With Mike Marshall registering his 24th save of the season, the Twins downed the Mariners, 3-1. The Twins scored all their runs in similar style -- a double by John Castino and single by Jose Morales in the third inning, double by Ron Jackson and single by Ken Landreaux in the fifth, and a double by Rob Wilfong and single by Castino in the ninth.

Pirates 5, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
A three-run homer by Phil Garner in the 10th inning powered the Pirates to a 5-2 triumph over the Cubs. Garner blasted his drive following a single by Rennie Stennett and a safe bunt by Ed Ott. Bill Madlock and John Milner also hit homers in the game for the Pirates.

Reds 3, Braves 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Unfurling a two-hitter, Bill Bonham pitched the Reds to a 3-1 victory over the Braves. The Reds scored twice in the sixth inning when Johnny Bench stroked a single and Dave Concepcion followed with a homer. Cesar Geronimo added a round-tripper in the seventh. The Braves scored in the fifth on a walk to Dale Murphy and double by Barry Bonnell.

Astros 4, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
In addition to striking out 12 batters in a six-hitter, J.R. Richard drove in two runs to lead the Astros to a 4-1 triumph over the Dodgers. In the Astros' fifth, Enos Cabell reached first on an error by shortstop Bill Russell, Jeff Leonard singled and Alan Ashby walked to load the bases. A single by Richard drove in Cabell and Leonard to break a 1-1 tie. A single by Craig Reynolds plated Ashby with the final tally.

Cardinals 8, Mets 4 at New York (day game):
Homers by Ken Reitz and George Hendrick highlighted the Cardinals' 8-4 victory over the Mets. Reitz connected for a three-run blast in the second inning following singles by Ted Simmons and Tony Scott. The Redbirds blew the game open in the fifth frame. Garry Templeton and Jerry Mumphrey stroked singles and, after an out, a double by Simmons delivered both runners. Wayne Twitchell replaced starter Andy Hassler on the mound for the Mets and immediately yielded a two-run round-tripper to Hendrick.

Phillies 4, Expos 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
An error by Montreal first baseman Tony Perez enabled the Phillies to edge the Expos, 4-3. Larry Bowa opened the Phillies' ninth with a bunt single and stole second. After Pete Rose walked, Greg Gross grounded into a force play at second base. Mike Schmidt drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Bake McBride then batted for Mike Anderson and hit a grounder to Perez, who booted the ball as Bowa came home with the winning run.

Giants 10, Padres 7 at San Francisco (day game):
Mike Ivie celebrated his 27th birthday by hitting two homers as the Giants beat the Padres, 10-7. Ivie's circuit blows came with the bases empty in the second and eighth innings. Winning pitcher John Curtis drove in a run with a fourth-inning single and then singled home two more tallies to key a five-run fifth inning. San Diego reliever Rollie Fingers walked four consecutive batters in the fifth and gave up five runs in one-third inning.
