Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Brewers 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Orioles edged the Brewers, 3-2. The Birds trailed, 2-1, in the eighth when pinch-hitter Terry Crowley doubled and was replaced by pinch-runner Billy Smith. A single by Al Bumbry moved Smith to third and both runners scored when Rich Dauer doubled down the left field line.

Red Sox 3, Indians 2 at Boston (night game):
Posting his 15th victory of the season, Dennis Eckersley hurled the Red Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Indians. The first Red Sox run came in the fourth inning on a double by Bob Watson and single by Carl Yastrzemski. Fred Lynn led off the sixth with a single, stopped at third on a double by Jim Rice and scored on an infield out by Watson. A sacrifice fly by Yastrzemski then plated Rice.

Tigers 3, Rangers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Consecutive doubles by Alan Trammell and Steve Kemp leading off the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Rangers. Aurelio Lopez came out of the Tigers' bullpen with the bases loaded and none out in the Texas sixth and retired the side on just three pitches. Pinch-hitter Mike Jorgensen lined the first pitch into a double play and Jim Sundberg flied out to end the inning.

White Sox 5, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
The two-hit pitching of Rich Wortham enabled the White Sox to defeat the Yankees, 5-1. The White Sox decided the outcome with three runs in the second inning. Chet Lemon singled, moved to second on a walk to Claudell Washington and scored on a single by Greg Pryor. Washington also came home on the play when Yank second baseman Willie Randolph threw wildly trying to catch him at third. Two outs later, a single by Mike Squires plated Pryor.

Royals 10, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
Scattering 10 hits, Larry Gura pitched the Royals to a 10-3 decision over the Blue Jays. The Royals scored three runs in the third inning when Hal McRae and George Brett rapped consecutive doubles, Darrell Porter tripled and Otto Velez dropped a fly ball by Pete LaCock. Amos Otis clouted a two-run homer in the eighth and Al Cowens followed with another round-tripper.

Cubs 11, Pirates 3 at Chicago (day game):
Two homers by Steve Dillard highlighted a 17-hit attack as the Cubs routed the Pirates, 11-3. Dillard's first round-tripper came in the second inning after a pass to Barry Foote. After hitting a sacrifice fly in the third when the Cubs scored three runs, Dillard hit his second homer of the game with the bases empty in the fifth. Ican DeJesus smacked a run-scoring triple and Mike Vail homered for the Cubs in a four-run eighth.

Reds 5, Braves 2 at Cincinnati (day game):
A two-run inside-the-park homer by Hector Cruz snapped a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning, lifting the Reds to a 5-2 victory over the Braves. Cruz' blow, which followed a double by Dave Collins, resulted when Braves' outfielder Charlie Spikes crashed into the fence along the left field line attempting to haul down the long drive.

Dodgers 4, Astros 3 at Los Angeles (day game):
Steve Garvey and Dusty Baker drove in two runs apiece as the Dodgers posted a 4-3 decision over the Astros. Garvey connected for a homer in the third inning following a single by Davey Lopes. In the fifth, Lopes led off with a single, moved to second on a single by Garvey and both runners advanced when Astro left fielder Jose Cruz threw wildly to third. Baker then followed with a two-bagger that gave the Dodgers their winning margin.

Cardinals 4, Mets 0 at New York (night game):
Posting their fifth straight victory, the Cardinals whitewashed the Mets, 4-0, behind the two-hit pitching of John Denny. The Redbirds tallied three times in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie. Garry Templeton singled, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an error by first baseman Willie Montanez. After Ted Simmons doubled, an intentional walk to George Hendrick loaded the bases, but Jerry Mumphrey ruined the strategy with a two-run single.

Phillies 6, Expos 4 at Philadelphia (day game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Phillies downed the Expos, 6-4, scoring five times in the fifth inning. The big frame began when Garry Maddox reached first on an error by Expos' third baseman Larry Parrish. After Maddox was forced by Mike Anderson, Larry Bowa singled. Nino Espinosa then struck out, but Pete Rose walked to load the bases. A single by Manny Trillo plated Anderson and Bowa. A double by Mike Schmidt scored Rose and sent Expos' starter Bill Lee to the showers. Reliever Stan Bahnsen walked Greg Luzinski and Bob Boone then stroked a single, scoring Trillo and Schmidt.

Padres 4, Giants 0 at San Francisco (day game):
The Padres blanked the Giants, 4-0, on a four-hitter by John D'Acquisto. Giant miscues handed the Padres all their runs in the ninth inning. Leadoff batter Dave Winfield reached first on an error by Giants' shortstop Johnnie LeMaster. After a walk to Jerry Turner, a single by Gene Tenace scored Winfield. Dan Briggs then walked and Gary Lavelle replaced Greg Minton on the hill for the Giants. Kurt Bevacqua bounced a potential double-play grounder to LeMaster, who let the ball go through him as two runs scored. The final run of the inning came home on a balk by Lavelle.
