Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 2, White Sox 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Eddie Murray stole home with two out in the 12th inning to give the Orioles a 2-1 triumph over the White Sox. Murray singled to lead off and was sacrificed to second by Lee May. After Doug DeCinces was intentionally walked, Murray advanced to third on a fly ball by Roenicke. DeCinces broke from first with a 1-2 count on pinch-hitter Benny Ayala and, when pitcher Guy Hoffman stepped off the rubber, Murray raced home with the winning run.

Red Sox 9, Twins 5 at Boston (night game):
A two-run homer by Carl Yastrzemski broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning and lifted the Red Sox to a 9-5 victory over the Twins. Jim Rice, who belted a three-run homer in the fifth, led off the eighth with a single and Yaz followed with his round-tripper. Later in the same frame, the Red Sox added a two-run double by Rick Burleson.

Tigers 6, Angels 1 at California (night game):
Rookies Dan Petry and Pat Underwood combined on a two-hitter as the Tigers breezed to a 6-1 victory over the Angels. The Tigers picked up three runs in the fourth inning. Singles by Alan Trammell, Ron LeFlore and Champ Summers produced one marker and a two-run homer by Jason Thompson capped the scoring. Summers hit a solo homer in the sixth.

Brewers 6, Royals 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Brewers a 6-5 victory over the Royals. The score was 5-5 when Cecil Cooper lined a two-out single off Royal reliever Dan Quisenberry. A single by Sixto Lezcano sent Cooper to third and brought on Al Hrabosky in relief of Quisenberry. Hrabosky walked Ben Oglivie to load the bases and was removed after a 3-1 count on Gorman Thomas. Marty Pattin came in, threw one strike and then served up a fourth ball, forcing the winning run home.

Yankees 4, Rangers 3 at New York (night game):
Getting relief help from Rich Gossage, Tommy John received credit for his 16th victory of the season as the Yankees edged the Rangers, 4-3. The Yanks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on successive doubles by Bobby Murcer, Lou Piniella and Reggie Jackson. After a two-run single by Jim Sundberg tied the game in the top of the second, the Yankees countered with the eventual winning run in the bottom of the frame when Bucky Dent walked, went to third on a single by Willie Randolph and came home on a single by Murcer.

A's 3, Blue Jays 1 at Oakland (day game):
Snapping their five-game losing streak, the A's prevailed over the Blue Jays, 3-1. A single by Dave Revering and double by Tony Armas put the A's ahead in the fourth inning and they scored twice more in the fifth on consecutive singles by Rob Picciolo, Rickey Henderson, Dwayne Murphy and Wayne Gross and an infield out by Revering.

Mariners 3, Indians 2 at Seattle (night game):
A two-run, two-out homer by Willie Horton in the eighth inning powered the Mariners to a 3-2 triumph over the Indians. Horton's blast scored Ruppert Jones, who had doubled. Mike Parrott registered his seventh complete game.

Mets 6, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Three hits by Doug Flynn led a 12-hit assault as the Mets defeated the Braves, 6-3. The Mets snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning. Frank Taveras drove in one run with a single. Alex Trevino added another with a double. Flynn broke the game open in the seventh with a bases-loaded single, driving home two tallies.

Cubs 6, Giants 5 at Chicago (day game):
A homer by Bill Buckner lifted the Cubs to a 6-5 victory over the Giants. Buckner's blast came in the seventh inning and snapped a 5-5 tie. The Giants were kept in the contest by a pair of two-run homers by Mike Ivie.

Phillies 3, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Celebrating his 26th birthday with a five-hitter, Nino Espinosa pitched the Phillies to a 3-2 triumph over the Reds. The Phils scored twice in the second inning on a single by Bob Boone, triple by Larry Bowa and single by Espinosa. The eventual winning run came in the fifth when Greg Luzinski singled, advanced to second on an infield out and came home on a single by Garry Maddox.

Expos 3, Astros 0 at Houston (night game):
Dan Schatzeder and Scott Sanderson combined on a five-hitter as the Expos whitewashed the Astros, 3-0. An error by Astro third baseman Enos Cabell helped the Expos to a run in the second inning and a groundout by Andre Dawson produced another tally in the fifth. A pinch-single by Jerry White in the sixth drove home the Expos' final run.

Pirates 5, Padres 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Four-hit pitching by Bert Blyleven paced the Pirates to a 5-1 triumph over the Padres. A single by Tim Foli and homer by Dave Parker shot the Pirates ahead in the first inning. Bill Robinson added a round-tripper in the third. Singles by Rennie Stennett, Steve Nicosia and Blyleven and a double by Omar Moreno wrapped up the Pirates' scoring in the sixth. Bill Almon homered for the Padres' tally.

Dodgers 6, Cardinals 5 at St. Louis (night game):
The Dodgers built an early 6-0 lead and then hung on to edge the Cardinals, 6-5. Winning pitcher Rick Sutcliffe singled home a run in the second inning. After a double by Steve Yeager and single by Bill Russell added a tally in the third, Sutcliffe ignited a four-run rally in the seventh with a double. Davey Lopes walked and Russell singled to score Sutcliffe. Steve Garvey sacrificed and Ron Cey drew a pass to load the bases. Dusty Baker stroked a two-run single and Von Joshua hit an infield single for the deciding marker.
