Orioles 6, Rangers 5 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles built a 5-1 early lead and then hung on to edge the Rangers, 6-5. Kiko Garcia belted a three-run homer in the second inning for his first RBIs in 16 games. The Orioles pushed across the eventual winning run in the sixth on a double by Rich Dauer and single by Dave Skaggs. The Rangers had a two-run homer by Buddy Bell and solo shots by Mickey Rivers and Richie Zisk.
A's 8, Indians 6 at Cleveland (night game):
After yielding six runs and six hits in the first inning, including a grand-slam homer by Andre Thornton and solo round-tripper by Ron Hassey, Rick Langford pitched one-hit ball over the final eight frames and the A's prevailed over the Indians, 8-6. The A's, who had scored three runs in the top half of the first, came back with a two-run homer by Mike Heath in the sixth and tied the score in the seventh. Tony Armas opened the eighth with a walk and took second on a sacrifice. Mike Edwards was safe at first when Tribe shortstop Tom Veryzer booted his grounder. Rickey Henderson followed with a single that scored Armas. Edwards took third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Dwayne Murphy.
