Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 10, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
Backed by the Yankees' 16-hit attack, Ron Guidry breezed to a 10-3 triumph over the Red Sox. The victory was the 17th of the season and 11th in succession for the lefthander, who allowed nine hits and had 11 strikeouts. An error by Jim Dwyer opened the door for the Yankees in their five-run fourth. The big blow was a two-run triple by Willie Randolph. Both Randolph and Oscar Gamble had four hits in five trips.

A's 8, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Dave Revering highlighted a 13-hit attack with home runs in the third and ninth innings as the Athletics derailed the Brewers, 8-3. Steve McCatty became the only three-time winner over the Brewers this season. Rickey Henderson joined Revering in the A's attack with three hits, driving in one run and scoring twice.

Twins 7, Rangers 4 at Texas (night game):
A tie-breaking homer by Ken Landreaux touched off a three-run 12th inning that carried the Twins past the Rangers, 7-4. The Twins added two more runs on a double by Butch Wynegar, intentional walk to Ron Jackson, single by Bombo Rivera and sacrifice bunt by John Castino. The Rangers had rallied to tie the score at 4-4 in the ninth on run-scoring singles by Billy Sample and Jim Sundberg. Jim Kern, pitching the final 3 1/3 innings, got credit for his 12th win of the season.

Orioles 10, Blue Jays 4 at Toronto (night game):
With Pat Kelly, Doug DeCinces and Eddie Murray belting home runs, the Orioles breezed past the Blue Jays, 10-4. Mike Flanagan, winningest pitcher in the major leagues, annexed his 22nd victory with ninth-inning help from Don Stanhouse. Kelly and DeCinces connected in the second, DeCinces' homer coming with a man on. Murray unloaded a three-run homer in the third.

Dodgers 8, Padres 6 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Dodgers pounded out 10 hits, including a two-run homer by Bill Russell and a pair of run-scoring doubles by Joe Ferguson, in defeating the Padres, 8-6. Dave Winfield hit a homer, his 31st of the season, with two men on base in the Padres' four-run eighth inning.

Expos 4, Cubs 3 at Montreal (night game):
A bad-hop single by pinch-hitter Rusty Staub in the ninth inning, driving in two runs, enabled the Expos to edge the Cubs, 4-3, and maintain their precarious lead over the Pirates in the East division. The game-winning hit came off Bruce Sutter, who replaced Rick Reuschel following singles by Gary Carter and Ellis Valentine. Sutter walked Larry Parrish intentionally and retired Rodney Scott on a force play at the plate before Staub bounced his single over first baseman Larry Biittner's head.

Phillies 2, Mets 1 at New York (night game):
Mike Schmidt doubled, advanced to third on a groundout and scored the deciding run on a wild pitch by Neil Allen in the eighth inning as the Phillies held off the Mets, 2-1. Steve Carlton blanked the Mets until the ninth when Tug McGraw relieved with one out, one run in and the bases full. Doug Flynn flied to center field and Greg Gross threw out Joel Youngblood trying to score after the catch to end the game.

Braves 4, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
The Braves defeated the Giants, 4-1, behind the six-hit pitching of Phil Niekro, who posted his 18th victory. Niekro struck out nine in his 20th complete game. After Jerry Royster walked, stole second and scored on a single by Bob Horner in the first inning, the Braves added a pair in the fourth on a walk to Bruce Benedict, sacrifice by Niekro, singles by Eddie Miller and Royster and a forceout by Gary Matthews. A homer by Mike Ivie in the eighth deprived Niekro of a shutout.
