After Doug DeCinces drilled a double for the fourth run, an intentional pass to Rich Dauer filled the bases. Rick Dempsey walked to force in a run and Mark Belanger was hit by a pitch to force home another. A grounder by Al Bumbry, double by Ken Singleton and an error accounted for three more runs before the inning ended.

White Sox 5, A's 2 at Chicago (day game):

Gorman Thomas hit his 42nd homer to tie the score in the fourth and the Brewers then put over the winning run in the seventh on a walk to Charlie Moore, single by Lenn Sakata and double by Paul Molitor.

Tigers 8, Yankees 4 at New York (day game):
Erupting for four runs in the 12th inning, the Tigers beat the Yankees, 8-4, and eliminated the defending champions from the East division race. Ricky Peters stroked a leadoff single in the Tigers' 12th, Jerry Morales sacrificed Peters to second and was safe himself on an error by first baseman Chris Chambliss. An infield single by Jason Thompson loaded the bases and Lance Parrish followed with a two-run single. A third run scored when leftfielder Lou Piniella misplayed the ball. A double by Lou Whitaker then capped the outburst.

Twins 6, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
The Twins scored all their runs in the second inning to gain a 6-2 victory over the Rangers. All six runs were unearned after Texas second baseman Bump Wills committed a throwing error on a two-out, bases-loaded grounder by Hosken Powell. Two runs scored on the play. After a single by Rob Wilfong loaded the bases, Danny Goodwin and Ken Landreaux slammed consecutive two-run doubles.

Blue Jays 8, Indians 2 at Toronto (day game):

A single by Rick Bosetti scored Howell and a single by Al Woods plated Solaita. A second error by Rosello on a grounder by Tim Johnson permitted Mayberry and Bosetti to come home. Howell and Mayberry cracked solo homers in the fifth frame.

[DH] Cardinals 4, Expos 3 (day game) / Expos 5, Cardinals 1 at Montreal (day game):
After losing the first game of a doubleheader to the Cardinals, 4-3, the Expos came back to win the second game, 5-1, on a grand-slam homer by Dave Cash in the 10th inning and returned to first place in the East division by one percentage point over the Pirates. In the lidlifter, a double by Garry Templeton and single by Keith Hernandez gave the Cards a first-inning run and they added two more in the second on a safe bunt by Tony Scott, double by Ken Oberkfell and singles by Ken Reitz and Templeton. Throwing errors by Tony Perez and Larry Parrish gave the Cardinals what proved to be the deciding marker in the third. Parrish hit a two-run homer for the Expos.
