Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5 at Boston (night game):
Carlton Fisk led off the ninth inning with the Red Sox' third homer of the game to beat the Blue Jays, 6-5. Butch Hobson hit a two-run blow in the seventh to put the Red Sox ahead, 3-1, but the Blue Jays erupted for four runs in the eighth, two scoring on a boundary belt by Rick Bosetti. The Red Sox came back with the tying pair in their half on a double by Ted Sizemore and circuit clout by Fred Lynn. The homer was Lynn's 28th in Fenway Park, breaking Carl Yastrzemski's 1967 record for most round-trippers by a lefthanded hitter in Boston.

Brewers 7, Mariners 6 at Milwaukee (night game):
A single by Buck Martinez with two out in the 11th inning scored Dick Davis and gave the Brewers a 7-6 victory over the Mariners. Davis doubled with one away and stopped at third on a single by Robin Yount. After Jim Gantner struck out, Martinez ended the game with his single. Bruce Bochte tripled home two runs and also scored once, to pace the Mariners to a 6-4 lead before Paul Molitor tied the score at 6-6 with a two-run double in the fifth inning.

White Sox 4, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Connecting for his fourth hit of the game, Jim Morrison homered after a single by Jorge Orta in the 10th inning to carry the White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Twins. Doubles by Morrison and Marv Foley and a single by Harry Chappas produced the first two runs for the White Sox in the second. The Twins picked up a tally on a single by Ron Jackson and triple by John Castino in the fifth and tied the score with a homer by Roy Smalley in the eighth.

Yankees 5, Indians 2 at New York (night game):
Pinch-hitting, Oscar Gamble homered with two men on base in the ninth inning to cap a four-run rally and bring the Yankees a 5-2 victory over the Indians. With the Indians leading, 2-1, George Scott singled to open the Yankee rally. The Indians removed starter Rick Waits and brought in Sid Monge, who failed in relief. After Chris Chambliss flied out, pinch-hitter Reggie Jackson and Juan Beniquez both walked to load the bases. Roy White hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score and Gamble followed with his homer.

Rangers 4, A's 3 at Texas (night game):
Aided by two errors that resulted in a pair of unearned runs, the Rangers defeated the A's, 4-3. After Richie Zisk homered for the Rangers' initial run in the fourth inning, Al Oliver walked in the sixth, Buddy Bell singled and Willie Montanez was safe on an error by Dave Chalk, Oliver scoring. Zisk reached first on another error by Rob Picciolo as Bell scored. After an infield out by Pat Putnam, Jim Sundberg singled, driving in Montanez with what proved to be the winning run. Larry McCall, who made his first start of the season for the Rangers since his recall from Tucson (Pacific Coast), blanked the A's until the seventh when Waynr Gross doubled and scored on a single by Chalk. Joe Wallis hit a two-run homer off Sparky Lyle in the ninth.

Cardinals 9, Pirates 5 at Pittsburgh (day game):
The Pirates lost to the Cardinals, 9-5, but remained one game ahead in the East division race when rain prevented the Expos' scheduled twi-night doubleheader against the Braves in Atlanta. George Hendrick went 5-for-5, including a homer, and Tony Scott was 4-for-5 in the Cardinals' 17-hit attack on six Pirate pitchers. Dave Parker homered for the Pirates, who fell behind, 6-1, before rallying for two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh. Kent Tekulve, making his club record 92nd appearance of the season, was unable to stop the Cardinals from pulling away in the eighth. Tekulve hit Ken Oberkfell with a pitch with one out and then uncorked a wild pitch. After Mark Littell struck out, Garry Templeton doubled to score Oberkfell. Jerry Mumphrey singled to drive in Templeton. Hendrick capped the scoring with his homer off Enrique Romo in the ninth.

Giants 5, Dodgers 3 at San Francisco (night game):
Two unearned runs enabled the Giants to defeat the Dodgers, 5-3. After Bill North singled in the first inning, Mike Ivie smashed a homer. The Giants added a tainted tally in the third, picked up a run on a sacrifice fly by Joe Strain in the fourth and scored another unearned run in the fifth. Pedro Guerrero, who made one of the Dodgers' four errors, homered in the sixth.
