Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 2, Royals 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Cy Young winner Mike Flanagan scattered seven hits as the Orioles shaded the Royals, 2-1. The score was 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Rick Dempsey stoked a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Mark Belanger. After Al Bumbry was safe on an infield hit, Dempsey scored on a single to center by Rich Dauer.

Red Sox 10, Tigers 9 at Boston (day game):
Led by Tony Perez, who went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs with a two-run homer and double, the Red Sox outlasted the Tigers, 10-9. Perez' homer came in the bottom of the second inning and his two-bagger came in the third frame to tie the game. The Sox got the go-ahead run later in the inning on an infield hit by Butch Hobson. The Sox iced the game in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Fred Lynn and two-run single by Jim Rice.

Angels 2, Twins 1 at California (night game):
Four-hit pitching by Dave Frost enabled the Angels to capture a 10-inning, 2-1 verdict over the Twins. The score was 1-1 when Al Cowens led off the California 10th with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Carney Lansford, moved to third on a single by Dan Ford and scored on a sacrifice fly by Don Baylor.

Yankees 6, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
Tommy John posted his 37th career shutout as the Yankees topped the White Sox, 6-0. A three-run rally in the fourth inning was sufficient to win the game. Lou Piniella drew a one-out walk, raced to third on a single by Dennis Werth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rick Cerone. Bucky Dent then walked and Willie Randolph singled, scoring Werth. A single by Ruppert Jones plated Dent.

A's 6, Mariners 1 at Oakland (day game):
Matt Keough, who lost his first 14 decisions last year, won his second game in as many starts as the A's clipped the Mariners, 6-1. The A's sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run fifth inning. A single by Rob Picciolo drove in the first run and Dave Revering drilled a two-run triple later in the rally.

Rangers 8, Indians 7 at Texas (night game):
A dramatic three-run homer by Richie Zisk with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Rangers to an 8-7 triumph over the Indians. The Texans trailed, 7-5, when Mickey Rivers singled to lead off the ninth. With one out, Al Oliver singled. One out later, Zisk drove the ball into the left field seats.

Blue Jays 11, Brewers 2 at Toronto (day game):
Pounding out 12 hits off five Milwaukee pitchers, the Blue Jays enjoyed a home-opening 11-2 rout of the Brewers. The Jays jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Roy Howell followed a two-out single by John Mayberry with a blast over the right field fence. They added two more in the second on an RBI grounder by Alfredo Griffin and run-scoring single by Rick Bosetti. A hit batsman, error and wild pitch contributed to the Jays' four-run fourth.

Reds 5, Giants 3 at Cincinnati (day game):
The streaking Reds won their seventh straight game, 5-3, over the Giants, as Dan Driessen led the way with four RBIs. The Cincy first baseman broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run homer in the fifth inning following a walk to George Foster. He also accounted for the Reds' first two runs, delivering a bases-loaded single in the first frame.

Mets 3, Expos 2 at New York (day game):
The smallest crowd in Shea Stadium history -- 2,052 -- watched the Mets edge the Cubs, 3-2, as Ray Burris got credit for his first N. L. victory since 1978. All New York runs came in the third inning. Steve Henderson led off with an infield single and after two outs, Joel Youngblood was safe on an infield hit. John Stearns followed with an RBI single and Jerry Morales then laced a two-run single.

Dodgers 10, Padres 4 at San Diego (night game):
Exploding for 14 hits, the Dodgers snapped a three-game losing streak with the 10-4 thumping of the Padres. After the Padres tallied twice in the second inning, L. A. took a 3-2 lead in the third on a three-run homer by Steve Garvey. A triple by Dusty Baker and RBI single by Derrel Thomas produced the fourth run of the frame.

Phillies 8, Cardinals 3 at St. Louis (day game):
The Phillies prevailed over the Cardinals, 8-3, as Steve Carlton, with ninth-inning relief help from Dickie Noles, earned his 150th career victory. Doubles by Garry Maddox, Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski gave the Phils two runs in the fourth inning and they put the game out of reach in the ninth, scoring six times as Maddox and Manny Trillo drove home two runs each.
