Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 9, White Sox 8 at Boston (day game):
A three-run rally in the eighth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 9-8 triumph over the White Sox. The Bosox trailed, 8-6, when Tony Perez and Carlton Fisk singled in the eighth. Jim Dwyer ran for Fisk and both runners advanced on a sacrifice by Jerry Remy. A single by Jack Brohamer tied the game and a double by Dwight Evans plated Brohamer. Jim Rice and Fisk had two-run homers earlier.

Blue Jays 7, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Behind the five-hit hurling of Dave Stieb, the Blue Jays defeated the Royals, 7-1. The Jays tallied three times in the fourth inning on a run-scoring groundout by Barry Bonnell, error by K.C. shortstop U.L. Washington and two-bagger by Damaso Garcia. They added four runs in the ninth on a run-scoring single by Bob Davis, fielder's choice groundout by Rick Bosetti and two-run double by John Mayberry.

Brewers 7, Indians 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
A two-run homer by Gorman Thomas in the 11th inning gave the Brewers a 7-5 victory over the Indians. Mark Brouhard was hit by a pitch to begin the Milwaukee 11th and Thomas, after attempting to sacrifice on the first pitch, then belted his round-tripper. The Brewers had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run pinch-single by Cecil Cooper.

Yankees 3, Orioles 2 at New York (night game):
Ruppert Jones drove in the winning run with an eighth-inning single and Tommy John and Rich Gossage allowed only three Baltimore hits as the Yankees shaded the Orioles, 3-2. The game was tied, 2-2, when Rick Cerone led off the Yankees' eighth with a single, was sacrificed to second by Bucky Dent and raced home on Jones' blow.

A's 4, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
The rampaging A's roared to their seventh straight victory, 4-2 over the Mariners. The A's trailed, 2-1, going into the eighth inning, but tied the game on a leadoff homer by Dave Revering. In the ninth, two-out singles by Dwayne Murphy and Mitchell Page and a two-run pinch-double by Jeff Newman produced the triumph. Newman's blow came off reliever Dave Heaverlo, who had just been brought on to replace Shane Rawley.

Rangers 3, Tigers 2 at Texas (night game):
Behind strong pitching by Jon Matlack, who got relief help from Sparky Lyle in the ninth inning, the Rangers posted a 3-2 victory over the Tigers. The Texans broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth on a walk to Bump Wills, a stolen base and single by Al Oliver. They added an insurance marker on a solo homer by Jim Sundberg in the seventh.

Reds 6, Astros 5 at Houston (night game):
Led by George Foster, who went 5-for-5 with four singles and a homer, the Reds edged the Astros, 6-5. Foster drove in the Reds' first run with a first-inning single and clouted a solo homer in the fifth. A two-run double by Ken Griffey highlighted a three-run fourth.

Dodgers 4, Giants 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
Two-run homers in the first inning by Reggie Smith and Ron Cey sparked the Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Giants. Smith's round-tripper followed a single by Rudy Law and, after Steve Garvey doubled, Cey drilled a ball into the left-center field seats. Rookie Steve Howe pitched the final two innings to gain his first save.

Pirates 7, Expos 1 at Montreal (day game):
Behind the steady pitching of John Candelaria, the Pirates coasted to a 7-1 decision over the Expos. The Bucs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Candelaria and tallied three times in the sixth on an RBI double by Lee Lacy and sacrifice flies by Phil Garner and Steve Nicosia.

Mets 3, Phillies 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Combining on a five-hitter, Ray Burris and Neil Allen hurled the Mets past the Phillies, 3-0.
