Today's scores and summaries:

Royals 7, Blue Jays 4 at Kansas City (night game):
A bases-loaded triple by George Brett capped a four-run, eighth-inning rally that carried the Royals to a 7-4 decision over the Blue Jays. The Royals trailed, 4-3, going into the bottom of the eighth but tied the game on a double by John Wathan and single by Frank White. An error and a walk then loaded the bases before Brett, hitting just .209 entering the game, unleashed his three-bagger to left-center. Rookie reliever Gary Christenson picked up his first major league victory.

Indians 7, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
A three-run homer by Joe Charboneau triggered the Indians to a 7-3 victory over the Brewers. The rookie outfielder's blast came in the fourth inning following a single by Cliff Johnson and double by Jorge Orta. The Tribe added another run later in that same frame on a double by Ron Hassey and single by Rick Manning. Dan Spillner scattered seven hits in pitching his first complete game of the season.

Angels 17, Twins 0 at Minnesota (day game):
A one-out double by Ken Landreaux in the ninth inning spoiled Bruce Kison's bid for a no-hitter as the Angels routed the Twins, 17-0. It was the second one-hitter of the righthander's career and his first American League victory. The Angels scored four runs in the first inning, the first three driven in on a double by Don Baylor, and the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Grich. The Angels tallied seven unearned runs in the ninth.

Yankees 6, Orioles 5 at New York (night game):
Homers by Oscar Gamble and Reggie Jackson highlighted the Yankees' 6-5 triumph over the Orioles. Jackson's blast traveled 450 feet and came with a mate aboard in the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie. Gamble's clout was a two-run shot in the opening frame. Eddie Murray hit two homers for the Orioles.

A's 5, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Mario Guerrero went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs to pace the A's to a 5-2 triumph over the Mariners. The A's broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the ninth inning. In the winning rally, runs were produced with singles by Tony Armas and Guerrero and a double by Mike Heath. The Mariners had manufactured a deadlock in the seventh on a bases-loaded grounder by Dan Meyer and single by Bruce Bochte.

Tigers 5, Rangers 4 at Texas (night game):
A two-run double by Jason Thompson keyed a three-run first inning that propelled the Tigers to a 5-4 victory over the Rangers. Lou Whitaker opened the game with an infield hit and Kirk Gibson followed with a bunt single. Steve Kemp then hit a grounder back to the mound, but pitcher Steve Comer threw wildly to second, allowing Whitaker to score. Thompson then drilled a two-bagger to plate both runners.

Braves 2, Padres 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Four pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Braves shaded the Padres, 2-1. The Braves scored a run in the second inning when Jeff Burroughs stroked a single, went to second on an error by second baseman Barry Evans and raced home on a single by Bruce Benedict. A sixth-inning homer by Chris Chambliss accounted for the Braves' other run.

Cardinals 3, Cubs 1 at Chicago (day game):
Helped by two errors in the eighth inning, the Cardinals topped the Cubs, 3-1, behind the three-hit pitching of Silvio Martinez. The game was scoreless going into the eighth when Tony Scott stroked a leadoff single, took second when first baseman Bill Buckner made an errant throw on a bunt by Martinez and scored on a single by Garry Templeton. Pitcher Mike Krukow then was charged with an error when he threw wildly on a bunt by Ken Oberkfell, allowing Martinez to score and Templeton to advance to third. A sacrifice fly by Bobby Bonds plated Templeton.

Reds 3, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
A single by Dave Concepcion in the 12th inning lifted the Reds to a 3-2 triumph over the Astros. The score was 2-2 going into the 12th when Harry Spilman drilled a leadoff pinch-double. Houston reliever Joaquin Andujar retired the next two batters before Concepcion lined a shot to right. Reds reliever Tom Hume pitched three frames to run his string of scoreless innings to 13.

Dodgers 4, Giants 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Dodgers shut out the Giants for the second straight night, winning, 4-0, behind the six-hit pitching of Dave Goltz, who picked up his first National League victory. The Dodgers scored in their first turn at bat when Derrel Thomas singled, stole second, moved to third on an infield out and came home on a sacrifice fly by Reggie Smith. They got another run in the third on a single by Rudy Law, a stolen base and single by Steve Garvey before adding pair of unearned runs in the fourth.

Expos 3, Pirates 2 at Montreal (day game):
Scattering five hits in a route-going performance, Steve Rogers pitched the Expos to a 3-2 triumph over the Pirates. The Expos' first run came on a leadoff homer by Tony Bernazard in the fourth inning. Rowland Office followed with a triple and scored on a groundout by Ellis Valentine. Larry Parrish cracked a round-tripper for the other run in the seventh.

Mets 3, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Mets edged the Phillies, 3-2, as rookie righthander Mark Bomback gained his first National League victory. The game was tied, 1-1, before the Mets went ahead in the sixth inning when Lee Mazzilli doubled, stole third and scored as second baseman Luis Aguayo booted Joel Youngblood's grounder. Youngblood drove in the eventual winning run with a single in the eighth.
