Today's scores and summaries:

A's 8, Angels 0 at California (night game):
Homers by Tony Armas, Dwayne Murphy and Dave Revering backed Rick Langford's seven-hit pitching as the A's whitewashed the Angels, 8-0. Armas hit a solo homer in the second inning to open the A's scoring, Murphy clouted a two-run blast to highlight a four-run fifth and Revering drilled a bases-empty round-tripper in the seventh.

Mariners 6, Twins 4 at Minnesota (day game):
Taking advantage of Minnesota errors, the Mariners defeated the Twins, 6-4, as Rick Honeycutt received credit for his fourth victory of the season, tops in the majors. The Mariners picked up a run in the second inning on a triple by Willie Horton and RBI double by Leon Roberts. They added five in the fourth with three coming in when left fielder Ken Landreaux permitted Dan Meyer's bases-loaded drive to glance off his glove. Twins outfielder Bombo Rivera suffered a fractured kneecap when he crashed into a post while fielding Horton's triple and he will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

Cubs 4, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Starring at bat and afield, Dave Kingman sparked the Cubs to a 4-2 triumph over the Cardinals. The big left fielder threw a runner out at the plate in the third inning and stroked a single that gave the Cubs the go-ahead run in the ninth. The game was tied, 1-1, in the top of the ninth, when Ivan DeJesus drew a leadoff walk from reliever Bob Sykes. Bill Buckner reached base on a bunt single and Kingman then singled to center. Jerry Martin greeted reliever Donnie Moore with a two-bagger that plated Buckner, and Kingman tallied on a sacrifice fly by Tim Blackwell.
