Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 4, Orioles 3 at Baltimore (night game):
The Yankees edged the Orioles, 4-3, behind the combined five-hit pitching of Luis Tiant and Rudy May. Willie Randolph gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning with a two-run homer after a single by Bucky Dent, and Reggie Jackson connected for a solo blast in the sixth. The victory was the Yankees' fourth straight over the Orioles this season, all by one run.

A's 4, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Registering his third victory of the season, Mike Norris hurled the A's to a 4-2 triumph over the Angels. The A's scored in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Mike Heath and in the third inning when Rickey Henderson walked and raced home from first on a single by Dwayne Murphy. Singles by Jeff Newman, Mario Guerrero and Heath loaded the sacks in the sixth and Mickey Klutts delivered a two-out, two-run single.

Red Sox 11, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Two-run homers by Jim Rice and Tony Perez highlighted the Red Sox' 11-1 rout of the White Sox. In the third inning, Fred Lynn singled and Rice blasted a round-tripper. Rice singled in the sixth and Perez followed with his circuit clout.

Brewers 14, Indians 1 at Cleveland (night game):
With two homers apiece, Ben Oglivie and Sal Bando led a barrage of seven circuit clouts that produced all of the Brewers' runs in a 14-1 trouncing of the Indians. Oglivie clouted a two-run blast in the second inning and three-run shot in the eighth, and Bando hit homers in the fifth and eighth. Sixto Lezcano and Larry Hisle drilled three-run homers and Paul Molitor had a solo smash.

Rangers 10, Tigers 5 at Detroit (day game):
In a game shortened to seven innings by rain, the Rangers clubbed the Tigers, 10-5. The Rangers scored in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Al Oliver and then exploded for five consecutive hits and four tallies in the second. Pat Putnam cracked an RBI double, Pepe Frias and Mickey Rivers stroked run-scoring singles and Bump Wills delivered a sacrifice fly. Richie Zisk belted a two-run homer in the third.

Mariners 5, Twins 3 at Minnesota (day game):
A three-run rally in the ninth inning carried the Mariners to a 5-3 triumph over the Twins. With the Mariners trailing, 3-2, Leon Roberts led off the ninth with a double. After one out, Bruce Bochte walked and Bill Stein singled to plate Roberts with the tying tally. Joe Simpson then singled to center, bringing home Larry Milbourne, pinch-runner for Bochte. A sacrifice fly by Ted Cox produced the final run. Stein belted a two-run homer in the seventh.

Blue Jays 3, Royals 1 at Toronto (night game):
Extending their winning skein to four games, the Blue Jays topped the Royals, 3-1. The Jays scored twice in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk to Roy Howell and sacrifice fly by Otto Velez. Velez also cracked a solo homer in the sixth. Jim Clancy scattered six hits in posting his first win of the year.

Astros 3, Reds 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Unfurling a three-hitter, Ken Forsch pitched the Astros to a 3-0 victory over the Reds. The Astros scored their first run in the fourth inning when Joe Morgan singled, stole second and, after an infield hit by Art Howe, came home when Enos Cabell bounced into a double play. Cesar Cedeno blasted a two-run homer in the sixth to put the game on ice. The Reds' only scoring threat came in the fifth when they loaded the bases with two out, but Forsch then struck out Ken Griffey.

Pirates 5, Expos 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A double by Bill Madlock drove home the winning run as the Pirates shaded the Expos, 5-4, in 10 innings. The score was deadlocked, 4-4, when Willie Stargell cracked a leadoff single and was replaced by pinch-runner Matt Alexander. After Bill Robinson struck out, Madlock lashed a ball down the left field line and Alexander came around to score.

Dodgers 5, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
Shutting out San Francisco for the second straight time, Dave Goltz pitched a six-hitter as the Dodgers defeated the Giants, 5-0. The Dodgers scored four runs in the first inning on singles by Dave Lopes and Rudy Law, a sacrifice fly by Reggie Smith, single by Steve Garvey and three-run homer by Ron Cey. Dusty Baker hit a solo round-tripper in the seventh. The victory was the Dodgers' ninth straight.

Cubs 6, Cardinals 4 at St. Louis (night game):
A three-run outburst in the ninth inning lifted the Cubs to a 6-4 victory over the Cardinals. The Cubs trailed, 4-3, when Scot Thompson drew a leadoff walk in the ninth, stole second and, after Tim Blackwell struck out, scored on a double by Steve Dillard. Mark Littell then replaced Bob Sykes on the mound for the Cards and uncorked a wild pitch that moved Dillard to third, from where he tallied on a pinch-hit single by Barry Foote.
