Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 2, Mariners 1 at California (night game):
A base-running blunder that wiped out two runs proved costly to the Mariners, who lost to the Angels, 2-1. In the seventh inning, with the bases loaded and two out, Jim Anderson hit an apparent double to right field, driving in Ted Cox from third and Larry Cox from second. However, on appeal, umpires called Larry Cox out for failing to touch third base on his way to the plate. That was the third out and the inning thus ended without any runs scoring. The Angels then broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases and a run scored on an infield out by Rod Carew.

Red Sox 4, White Sox 3 at Chicago (night game):
Tony Perez and Carlton Fisk each drove in two runs to bat the Red Sox to a 4-3 victory over the White Sox. Perez accounted for his first RBI with a homer in the second inning. After the White Sox went ahead, 2-1, Fred Lynn doubled in the fourth and scored on a two-bagger by Perez. Fisk followed with a homer for the game-winning blow.

Indians 2, Blue Jays 1 at Toronto (night game):
Hitting safely in his 11th straight game, Mike Hargrove batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the eighth inning to lift the Indians to a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays. Singles by Roy Howell, Otto Velez and Al Woods produced the Jays' run in the fourth. Hargrove's game-winning single came after Rick Manning doubled and Ron Pruitt and Jorge Orta walked to load the bases.

Astros 9, Reds 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Five unearned runs in the sixth inning helped the Astros post a 9-3 victory to complete the sweep of the three-game series with the Reds. Joe Morgan hit his second homer in two nights against his former teammates to tie the score at 3-3 before the Astros clinched the decision in the sixth on errors by Junior Kennedy and Dave Concepcion.

Phillies 2, Mets 1 at New York (night game):
Pete Falcone tied the modern major league record by striking out the first six batters in the game, but the Mets' lefthander lost to the Phillies, 2-1. Larry Bowa singled in the fifth inning and Luis Aguayo hit his first major league homer to account for the Phillies' runs. The Mets scored off Steve Carlton on a pass to Elliott Maddox with the bases loaded and two out in the seventh before Tug McGraw came in to save the game.

Pirates 2, Expos 1 at Pittsburgh (day game):
Completing a sweep of the three-game series, the Pirates scored in the 10th inning on a single by Willie Stargell and double by Bill Robinson, driving in pinch-runner Matt Alexander, to defeat the Expos, 2-1. The initial scoring took place in the fifth inning. The Expos counted on a double by Jerry White and single by David Palmer. The Pirates came back with a matching tally when Omar Moreno walked, stole second and scored on a single by Dave Parker.

Padres 4, Braves 3 at San Diego (day game):
With one out in the ninth inning, Gene Tenace was safe on an error by third baseman Chico Ruiz, setting up the run that gave the Padres a 4-3 victory over the Braves. Tenace stopped at second base on a single by Dave Winfield and scored the winning run on a single by Willie Montanez.
