Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 10, Twins 3 at Baltimore (night game):
A homer by Benny Ayala with a man on base highlighted a seven-run second inning as the Orioles breezed to a 10-3 rout of the Twins. The Twins committed three errors during the inning as 11 Birds came to bat. Ayala also doubled home a run in the seventh inning.

Blue Jays 3, Angels 2 at California (night game):
A two-run pinch-homer by Roy Howell in the seventh inning lifted the Blue Jays past the Angels, 3-2, for their fourth straight victory. Howell's blast came after a two-out single by Damaso Garcia and erased a 2-1 Angel lead. The Angels came back to load the bases in the eighth with one out, but reliever Joey McLaughlin got Don Baylor to ground into an inning-ending double play. McLaughlin had to be bailed out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam in the ninth by Jerry Garvin, who retired Rick Miller on a fly.

White Sox 2, Royals 0 at Chicago (night game):
Rich Wortham and Ed Farmer combined on a four-hitter as the White Sox trimmed the Royals, 2-0. The White Sox scored their first run in the second inning on a double by Chet Lemon and single by Wayne Nordhagen. Junior Moore singled home the other run in the eighth. Farmer recorded his league-leading eighth save with two innings of one-hit relief.

Yankees 6, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (night game):
Bucky Dent belted a homer in the ninth inning to give the Yankees a 6-5 victory over the Brewers. Reggie Jackson hit his fourth round-tripper in the last six games in the second and Bob Watson clouted a homer in the third to help the Yankees take an early 5-1 lead, but the Brewers battled back and scored the tying run in the sixth when Paul Molitor singled, took third as Jim Gantner's grounder went through Willie Randolph's legs at second and came home on Cecil Cooper's grounder to short.

Indians 4, A's 3 at Oakland (night game):
The Indians ended a four-game losing streak by edging the A's, 4-3. The Tribe broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning when Mike Hargrove walked with one out and Toby Harrah and Ron Hassey followed with singles, scoring Hargrove. Harrah then came home when Gary Alexander singled with two out.

Tigers 9, Mariners 5 at Seattle (night game):
Champ Summers, the league's leading hitter, had three hits and drove in two runs to spark the Tigers to a 9-5 decision over the Mariners. Summers, batting .409, extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a run-scoring single during a three-run first inning. He doubled home another run during a four-run seventh. Jason Thompson drove in three runs with a pair of two-baggers. Dan Petry, making his first start since being called up from Evansville (American Association), pitched six innings to receive credit for the victory.

Rangers 7, Red Sox 2 at Texas (night game):
Registering his second successive complete game, Doc Medich scattered six hits in pitching the Rangers to a 7-2 decision over the Red Sox. The Rangers, trailing, 2-1, scored four runs in the sixth inning on singles by Al Oliver and Buddy Bell, two-run double by Billy Sample and singles by Pat Putnam and Jim Sundberg.

Padres 4, Cubs 0 at Chicago (day game):
Tossing a five-hitter, Randy Jones pitched the Padres to a 4-0 victory over the Cubs. The Padres took the lead in the second inning when Aurelio Rodriguez walked, went to second on a walk to Barry Evans and scored on a single by Bill Fahey. After adding a pair in the fifth on an RBI double by Dave Winfield and bases-loaded walk to Fahey, the Padres got their final run on a homer by Jerry Turner in the eighth.

Astros 8, Expos 4 at Montreal (day game):
In a game interrupted by rain delays totaling three hours, 50 minutes, the Astros prevailed over the Expos, 8-4, as a five-run first inning proved decisive. In their first turn at bat, the Astros loaded the bases on a double by Rafael Landestoy, single by Terry Puhl and a fielder's choice. A single by Cesar Cedeno drove in the first run, Enos Cabell doubled home two more and Jose Cruz followed with a two-run single.

Reds 12, Mets 10 at New York (night game):
A two-run pinch-double by Harry Spilman in the 14th inning gave the Reds a 12-10 victory over the Mets in a four-hour, 37-minute marathon. Ray Knight and Sam Mejias opened the frame with singles. After Dan Driessen and Junior Kennedy struck out, Spilman dumped a ball into right field for the game-winning blow. The Mets had deadlocked the contest with three runs in the eighth, two on a homer by Joel Youngblood and the tying tally on a passed ball.

Phillies 10, Braves 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
After giving up four unearned runs in the first inning, the Phillies came back to down the Braves, 10-5. Pete Rose doubled and scored on a double by Bake McBride to make it 4-1 in the first and then doubled to start a third-inning rally. Mike Schmidt doubled in Rose and scored on a single by Greg Luzinski. A two-bagger by Greg Gross plated Luzinski and a single by Larry Bowa put the Phillies ahead, 5-4. The Phillies registered four runs in the eighth on a bases-loaded triple by Schmidt and a thowing error.

Pirates 2, Dodgers 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Phil Garner bounced a bases-loaded single over a drawn-in infield in the ninth inning to give the Pirates a 2-1 triumph over the Dodgers. Bill Robinson opened the Bucs' winning surge with a single and moved to third on a single by Bill Madlock. After pinch-hitter Lee Lacy was intentionally walked, Joe Beckwith replaced Steve Howe on the mound for the Dodgers and served up the game-winning hit.

Cardinals 10, Giants 7 at St. Louis (night game):
A six-run explosion in the fifth inning lifted the Cardinals to a 10-7 victory over the Giants. The rally began with a base on balls to Tommy Herr. A double by Keith Hernandez and intentional walk to Ted Simmons loaded the bases before George Hendrick delivered a sacrifice fly. Ken Reitz then drilled a two-run double, knocking out Giants starter Bob Knepper. Bobby Bonds greeted reliever Randy Moffitt with a run-scoring single. Tony Scott was walked intentionally, but pitcher Donnie Moore spoiled the strategy by blasting a two-run double to the right-center field fence. Pedro Borbon stopped a Giant rally in the seventh inning, finished the game and was awarded credit for his first victory of the campaign.
