Today's scores and summaries:

Rangers 6, Orioles 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Dave Roberts hit his first major league grand slam and Gaylord Perry got credit for his 282nd career victory as the Rangers defeated the Orioles, 6-3. Roberts' blow highlighted a five-run fourth inning after singles by Richie Zisk and Jim Sundberg were sandwiched around walk to Danny Walton. Jim Palmer then took over in an unusual relief appearance for the Orioles and was tagged for a homer by Mickey Rivers. Zisk also connected for the circuit in the seventh off Palmer.

Red Sox 7, Twins 6 at Boston (night game):
A bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 7-6 victory over the Twins. The Red Sox filled the sacks on a single by Butch Hobson, infield hit by Jerry Remy and pass to Carl Yastrzemski before Jim Dwyer batted for Dwight Evans and walked on a 3-1 pitch to force home the winning run.

Angels 13, Indians 7 at Cleveland (night game):
The Angels snapped a six-game losing streak with a 13-7 thumping of the Indians. Dave Skaggs, obtained from Baltimore and making his first appearance in a California uniform, led the attack with a homer, two singles and five RBIs. Mike Hargrove extended his batting streak to 22 games with a single for the Indians, who also had homers by Toby Harrah and Tom Veryzer.

Tigers 6, A's 5 at Detroit (night game):
Rallying for two runs in the ninth inning, the Tigers gained their fifth straight victory, beating the A's, 6-5. After Rickey Henderson doubled in a run to give the A's a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth, John Wockenfuss and Lance Parrish opened the bottom of the frame with consecutive walks. Two outs later, a walk to Lou Whitaker loaded the bases and Alan Trammell then rapped a two-run single for his fourth hit of the game.

Brewers 5, White Sox 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
Larry Hisle drove in three runs to pace the Brewers to a 5-1 victory over the White Sox. The Brewers took the lead in the second inning when Ben Oglivie walked, stole second and came home when White Sox shortstop Greg Pryor committed a throwing error on a grounder by Sal Bando. Hisle delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and stroked a two-run single in the eighth.

Yankees 16, Royals 3 at New York (night game):
The Yankees took batting practice in a 16-3 rout of the Royals. The Yanks collected 12 hits, including homers by Bucky Dent, Graig Nettles and Rick Cerone, and took advantage of 14 walks issued by five K.C. pitchers. Ron Guidry, who pitched the first six innings, raised his record to 3-0.

Mariners 7, Blue Jays 0 at Toronto (night game):
Five-hit hurling by Glenn Abbott and two-run homers by Willie Horton and Bill Stein led the Mariners to a 7-0 rout of the Blue Jays.

Phillies 9, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Paced by Pete Rose, who drove in four runs, the Phillies enjoyed a 9-1 romp over the Braves as Steve Carlton became the first six-game winner in the N.L. Rose had an RBI double in the second inning, two-run single in the third and run-scoring double in the fifth.

Mets 7, Reds 6 at Cincinnati (day game):
A single by Jerry Morales in the 10th inning drove home the winning run as the Mets outlasted the Reds, 7-6. John Stearns opened the 10th with a double and two outs later Morales lined a single to left for the game-winner. The Reds had tied the contest with four runs in the ninth. Dan Driessen doubled and scored on a single by Ray Knight. After Junior Kennedy walked, Harry Spilman hit a three-run pinch-homer.

Expos 1, Astros 0 at Houston (night game):
Combining on a four-hitter, Scott Sanderson and Woodie Fryman pitched the Expos to a 1-0 triumph over the Astros. The only run came when Gary Carter walked to open the fifth inning, took second on an infield out and scored on a double by Tony Bernazard.

Cubs 5, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Homers by Steve Dillard and Dave Kingman highlighted the Cubs' 5-2 triumph over the Dodgers. Dillard cracked a leadoff homer in the third inning and the Cubs added three more runs in that same frame on an infield hit by Lynn McGlothen, triple by Bill Buckner and homer by Kingman.

Cardinals 2, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
A throwing error by Dave Cash allowed the tie-breaking run to score in the sixth inning and give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory over the Padres. The game was deadlocked at 1-1 when Keith Hernandez opened the sixth with an infield hit, moved to second on a single by Ted Simmons and reached third as George Hendrick bounced into a double play. Ken Reitz then hit a routine grounder to Cash, but the second baseman threw the ball into the Padres dugout as Hernandez scored.

Pirates 3, Giants 2 at San Francisco (day game):
Sloppy defensive play by the Giants enabled the Pirates to win, 3-2. Errors by catcher Milt May and center fielder Bill North, plus a sacrifice fly by Bill Robinson, gave the Bucs a first-inning run. A double by Phil Garner, a hit batsman, bunt single by Jim Bibby and throwing error by Giants pitcher Bob Knepper produced another in the second. The third Pirates tally came in the eighth on a double by Tim Foli and single by Dave Parker.
