Jorge Orta singled home Miguel Dilone with the first Cleveland run in the first inning of the lidlifter and scored the second run in the fourth on a two-out single by Joe Charboneau. The Orioles registered all the runs they needed in the second inning of the nightcap when Doug DeCinces belted a solo homer and Dan Graham delivered a sacrifice fly.
Tigers 12, Yankees 8 at Detroit (night game):
A grand slam by Richie Hebner highlighted a six-run fifth inning that propelled the Tigers to a 12-8 victory over the Yankees and sent previously unbeaten Tommy John crashing to defeat. The veteran third baseman slammed John's first pitch into the seats. A double by Lou Whitaker and single by Champ Summers drove in two more runs in the inning.
Royals 1, A's 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Although needing relief help, Rich Gale got credit for his first victory since August 1, 1979, as the Royals blanked the A's, 1-0. The Royals scored in the fourth inning when U.L. Washington singled, took second on a groundout and, after a walk to Darrell Porter, came home on a single by Willie Aikens.
Brewers 14, Mariners 5 at Seattle (night game):

A leadoff homer by Terry Puhl in the seventh inning snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted the Astros to a 3-2 decision over the Mets. Puhl's clout came after the Mets had deadlocked the contest in the sixth with two runs on a squeeze bunt by Frank Taveras and a double by John Stearns.
