Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Tigers 3 at Baltimore (night game):
A two-run homer by Ken Singleton capped an Orioles' rally in the eighth inning and produced a 5-3 victory over the Tigers. After the Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the sixth with two runs on a throwing error by Eddie Murray, the Orioles began their comeback in the eighth with the tying tally on a double by Al Bumbry and single by Rich Dauer before Singleton smashed his homer.

Red Sox 4, Indians 1 at Boston (night game):
The Red Sox got four-hit pitching from Bob Stanley and Tom Burgmeier, plus homers by Butch Hobson, Jack Brohamer and Carl Yastrzemski, and defeated the Indians, 4-1. Hobson's homer in the third inning and Brohamer's in the fifth were solo shots. Yastrzemski connected with a man on base in the eighth.

Royals 13, Angels 9 at California (night game):
Led by Clint Hurdle, who drove in four runs with a homer and two singles, the Royals defeated the Angels, 13-9. For the second time in less than one week, the Royals delivered an early kayo to Angel starter Frank Tanana, who was rapped for seven runs, three earned, in 1 1/3 innings. Although beaten, the Angels outhit the Royals, 17-16, and had three homers, two by Joe Rudi and one by Tom Donohue.

Brewers 5, Twins 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Bill Travers yielded only four hits and pitched the Brewers to a 5-0 victory over the Twins. Robin Yount backed Travers with a two-run homer and Ben Oglivie contributed two more runs with a sacrifice fly and circuit clout. Ken Landreaux killed off the Twins' best scoring opportunity by grounding into a double play with the bases loaded in the sixth inning but then extended his batting streak to 24 games with a useless single in the ninth.

Rangers 3, A's 1 at Oakland (night game):
Pitching a two-hitter, Fergie Jenkins recorded the 250th victory of his major league career as the Rangers defeated the A's, 3-1. The A's scored an unearned run in the fourth inning, but the Rangers came back against Rick Langford after two were out in the sixth. Pepe Frias and Mickey Rivers singled and Bump Wills doubled to drive in Frias. Al Oliver then singled to score Rivers and Wills.

Mariners 8, White Sox 0 at Seattle (night game):
A two-run homer by Willie Horton in the first inning and another two-run blow by Tom Paciorek in the third opened the Mariners' attack in an 8-0 victory over the White Sox. Larry Milbourne drove in two more runs with a triple in the sixth. Rick Honeycutt, who was the winner, bringing his record to 7-1, was forced to leave the game in the sixth inning after being hit on the left ankle by a groundball single off the bat of Bruce Kimm. Shane Rawley completed the shutout.

Yankees 7, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
Ron Guidry and Ron Davis combined on a six-hitter and Willie Randolph, Dennis Werth and Joe Lefebvre smashed homers as the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays, 7-3. Randolph led off with his round-tripper in the first inning when the Yankees scored three runs. Werth's blow with a man on base in the third was his first in the major leagues. Lefebvre's homer in the sixth was his second in two nights.

Cubs 2, Dodgers 0 at Chicago (day game):
The Dodgers could only see Dennis Lamp for four hits and their six-game winning streak was extinguished by the Cubs, 2-0. The shutout was first of the season for the Cubs' staff. Don Sutton was the loser in the duel when Lenny Randle singled in the third inning, stole second, went to third on a groundout by Ivan DeJesus and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bill Buckner.

Expos 7, Reds 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
Although rapped for 11 hits, Bill Lee was able to travel the route and pitch the Expos to a 7-4 victory over the Reds. The Expos collected only four hits in the game but were able to score five runs in the first inning on four walks and two doubles. Ellis Valentine knocked in two runs with a double and after the Expos loaded the bases, Warren Cromartie cleared the sacks with another two-bagger.

Mets 2, Braves 1 at New York (night game):
Ray Burris came within one out of pitching his first complete game since September 17, 1978, before Neil Allen took over to complete the Mets' 2-1 victory over the Braves. The Mets scored in the fourth inning on a double by Frank Taveras and single by Steve Henderson and then added what proved to be the deciding run in the seventh on a single by Henderson, forceout by Joel Youngblood, walk to Elliott Maddox and single by Doug Flynn. Burris gave up three hits and the Braves' run in the ninth before departing with two out and men on second and third. Allen retired Chico Ruiz on a fly to pick up his eighth save.

Phillies 3, Astros 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Four-hit pitching by Steve Carlton and a three-run homer by Mike Schmidt combined to bring the Phillies a 3-0 victory over the Astros. Pete Rose and Bake McBride singled in the third inning ahead of Schmidt's smash off Nolan Ryan.

Pirates 5, Giants 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Tim Foli in the 13th inning scored Steve Nicosia and gave the Pirates a 5-4 victory over the Giants. Jack Clark, who had four hits in six trips, accounted for all of the Giants' runs, driving in three and scoring one. In the 13th, Nicosia singled, Dale Berra bunted and all hands were safe on an error by Giants reliever Al Holland. Nicosia moved to third when John Milner forced Berra. Ed Halicki took over and walked Omar Moreno to load the bases before Foli delivered his decisive fly.

Padres 2, Cardinals 0 at St. Louis (night game):
The Padres broke up a scoreless game with two runs in the ninth inning and defeated the Cardinals, 2-0. Rick Wise and Bob Shirley combined to hold the Cards to four hits. Shirley relieved in the eighth and ended a Cardinals threat by retiring Ted Simmons with the bases loaded. Then in the ninth, Dave Winfield singled, stole second and scored on a double by Willie Montanez. After taking third on an infield out, Montanez also scored on a balk by Jim Kaat.
