Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 9, Tigers 1 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles broke a 1-1 tie with a six-run outburst in the fifth inning and went on to defeat the Tigers, 9-1. Jim Palmer pitched his first complete game of the season. In the Orioles' big inning, Lenn Sakata doubled and scored on a single by Lee May. After an error and hit batsman loaded the bases, Ken Singleton drove in two runs with a single and Eddie Murray followed with a three-run homer.

Indians 7, Red Sox 2 at Boston (day game):
Joe Charboneau homered with a man on base in the fourth inning and drove in another run with a double in the seventh, leading the Indians to a 7-2 victory over the Red Sox.

Royals 6, Angels 5 at California (night game):
A single by Pete LaCock in the 10th inning scored pinch-runner Jerry Terrell and gave the Royals a 6-5 victory over the Angels. Willie Aikens, who drove in three earlier runs, singled with one out. Terrell ran for Aikens, advanced to third on a single by John Wathan and came home on LaCock's third hit of the game.

Brewers 4, Twins 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Leading off in the first inning, Paul Molitor homered to begin the Brewers' scoring in a 4-0 victory over the Twins. The Twins' Ken Landreaux singled to extend his batting streak to 25 games.

A's 15, Rangers 7 at Oakland (day game):
Piling up 17 hits, the A's trounced the Rangers, 15-7. The A's had a 15-1 lead before the Rangers rallied for six runs in the eighth inning to make the score more respectable. Jeff Newman drove in four runs for the A's with a double and two singles. Mickey Klutts homered with two men on base.

Mariners 5, White Sox 4 at Seattle (night game):
Continuing his hot batting streak, Tom Paciorek homered with two men on base in the first inning and drove in another run with a single in the third as the Mariners defeated the White Sox, 5-4. Willie Horton drove in the M's other run with a double in the third before crossing the plate himself on Paciorek's single. Paciorek now has 13 hits in his last 27 at-bats.

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (day game):
Ruppert Jones homered in the first inning and Joe Lefebvre knocked in two runs with a single in the third to start the Yankees off to a 6-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Lefebvre's hit drove in Jim Spencer, who had walked, and Graig Nettles, who had doubled.

Dodgers 4, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
Homers by Ron Cey and Reggie Smith, together with two other runs on a double steal and wild throw, carried the Dodgers to a 4-2 victory over the Cubs. Cey connected for the circuit in the second inning. In the fourth, after Steve Garvey walked and stopped at second on a single by Dusty Baker, the runners worked a double steal and when Cubs catcher Tim Blackwell threw wild to third, both Garvey and Baker scored. Smith added his round-tripper for insurance in the seventh inning.

Reds 2, Expos 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
David Palmer's string of 11 straight victories over two seasons was snapped by the Reds, who defeated the Expos, 2-0, behind the two-hit pitching of Frank Pastore.

Mets 5, Braves 4 at New York (day game):
Elliott Maddox singled with two out in the 10th inning, scoring Lee Mazzilli, to bring the Mets a 5-4 victory over the Braves. Mazzilli reached base with a single and took second on a sacrifice by John Stearns. After Steve Henderson was passed purposely, Jerry Morales forced Henderson as Mazzilli moved to third. Maddox then singled off the glove of Braves first baseman Chris Chambliss to score Mazzilli.

Phillies 5, Astros 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
Bake McBride hit his second triple of the game in the seventh inning and scored on a groundout by Bob Boone to give the Phillies their deciding run in a 5-4 victory over the Astros.

Giants 10, Pirates 9 at Pittsburgh (night game):
After walks to Darrell Evans and Mike Ivie in the 15th inning, Jim Wohlford drove in a run with a two-out double to enable the Giants to defeat the Pirates, 10-9. Willie Stargell and Dave Parker batted in four runs apiece for the Pirates, with each having a homer among his hits. The Giants appeared to have the game won in the 13th when Jack Clark and Ivie homered, but Stargell tied the score with a two-run double in the Pirates' half.

Padres 8, Cardinals 4 at St. Louis (night game):
Erupting for five runs in the seventh inning, the Padres posted an 8-4 victory over the Cardinals, who went down to their ninth straight defeat. Ozzie Smith walked to open the stanza and took third on a single by Jerry Mumphrey, who then stole second. Dave Winfield doubled, driving in both runners. The Cards passed Willie Montanez intentionally to bring up Gene Tenace, who proceeded to smash a three-run homer.
