Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 6, Orioles 4 at Baltimore (day game):
Alan Trammell, who hit a homer in the eighth to tie the score and force the game into extra innings, drove in two more runs with a bases-loaded single in the 11th to give the Tigers a 6-4 victory over the Orioles. The Tigers filled the sacks against Tippy Martinez on a single by Tom Brookens, a walk and hit batsman. Sammy Stewart relieved and got two outs on forceouts at the plate before Trammell delivered his winning single.

Indians 3, Red Sox 2 at Boston (day game):
Pinch-hitting, Cliff Johnson came through with a three-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Indians to a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. Joe Charboneau and Rick Manning hit back-to-back singles to start the Indians' rally. After Dell Alston came in to run for Manning, Johnson batted for Jerry Dybzinski and delivered his circuit clout.

Royals 7, Angels 3 at California (day game):
While Larry Gura pitched a five-hitter, George Brett smashed two doubles and a homer to lead the Royals' batting in a 7-3 victory over the Angels. Brett batted in one run with a double in the sixth inning and scored another as the Royals took a 3-1 lead. Then in the seventh, Frank White knocked in two runs with a single and Brett followed with a two-run homer. Joe Rudi homered for the Angels.

Brewers 3, Twins 2 at Milwaukee (day game):
Mark Brouhard, Brewers' rookie outfielder, hit his first major league homer, connecting with two men on base in the fourth inning to defeat the Twins, 3-2. Ben Oglivie and Dick Davis singled ahead of Brouhard's blast. Ken Landreaux, who had an RBI single for the Twins in the first inning, hit safely in his 25th straight game, breaking the Minnesota club record set by Lenny Green in 1961.

Rangers 7, A's 3 at Oakland (day game):
Mike Norris, who entered the game with an earned-run average of 0.52, was rapped for six runs in six innings as the Rangers defeated the A's, 7-3. Rangers' scoring included a two-run double by John Ellis and two-run single by Jim Sundberg.

Mariners 8, White Sox 3 at Seattle (day game):
Julio Cruz, Dan Meyer, Bruce Bochte and Joe Simpson each drove in two of the Mariners' runs in an 8-3 victory over the White Sox. Floyd Bannister held the White Sox to six hits and struck out 11, his career high.

Blue Jays 9, Yankees 6 at Toronto (day game):
In the lineup as the designated hitter, Lloyd Moseby batted in two runs with a double in the first inning and two more with his first major league homer in the third to spark the Blue Jays to a 9-6 victory over the Yankees. In addition to the rookie's slugging, the Blue Jays also had a three-run homer by John Mayberry. Luis Leal gained the victory in his first major league appearance, although tagged for 12 hits in 7 2/3 innings.

Cubs 2, Dodgers 1 at Chicago (day game):
A throwing error by Bill Russell with two out in the ninth inning allowed two runs to score and gave the Cubs a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers. With one away, Tim Blackwell doubled and moved to third on a single by Lenny Randle. Bill Buckner flied out, Blackwell holding third, but Randle advanced to second after the catch. Larry Biittner then grounded to Russell and when the Dodgers' shortstop uncorked a wild throw, Blackwell and Randle scored.

Expos 7, Reds 4 at Cincinnati (day game):
The Expos rallied for five runs in the fifth inning, including two on a homer by Gary Carter, to defeat the Reds, 7-4. Johnny Bench drove in three runs with a homer and sacrifice fly to help the Reds take a 4-1 lead before the Expos erupted. Rodney Scott singled, Andre Dawson tripled and Ellis Valentine and Larry Parrish hit doubles for three runs before Carter put the Expos ahead with his homer. Parrish added a round-tripper in the seventh.

Mets 3, Braves 0 at New York (day game):
Craig Swan pitched a three-hitter and was rewarded with a victory when the Mets broke up a scoreless game in the eighth inning and defeated the Braves, 3-0. Frank Taveras, who collected four of the Mets' eight hits off Phil Niekro, doubled with one away and scored the first run on a two-out double by John Stearns. Mike Jorgensen then clinched the decision with a two-run homer.

Phillies 6, Astros 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski hit back-to-back homers for the fourth time this season and Garry Maddox also rapped a round-tripper as the Phillies defeated the Astros, 6-2. Maddox connected in the second inning when the Phillies scored three runs. After Luzinski doubled and Bob Boone singled for another run in the third, Schmidt and Luzinski went into their slugging act in the fifth.

Giants 5, Pirates 2 at Pittsburgh (day game):
Darrell Evans went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to help Vida Blue gain his fifth straight victory as the Giants defeated the Pirates, 5-2. Evans, Willie McCovey and Larry Herndon each accounted for an RBI with a single in the first inning and Evans then capped the Giants' scoring with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Padres 11, Cardinals 5 at St. Louis (day game):
The Padres capped their best offensive show of the season with a grand-slam homer by Barry Evans in the ninth inning and beat the Cardinals, 11-5. The Cards suffered their 10th straight defeat, despite homers by Keith Hernandez and Ted Simmons, when their bullpen failed again. With the score tied, 5-5, Aurelio Rodriguez led off the Padres' eighth with a single and was on second with two out when the Cards walked pinch-hitter Jerry Turner intentionally. Ozzie Smith upset the move with a single, driving in Rodriguez. An infield hit by Jerry Mumphrey and an error on the play by Hernandez then allowed Turner to score.
