Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Angels 1 at California (night game):
In the first meeting this season between the 1979 A.L. divisional champions, Scott McGregor tossed a four-hitter for his fourth straight victory to lead the Orioles to a 6-1 victory over the Angels. Ken Singleton, who missed three games with a back injury, returned to key a two-run first inning with an RBI double before scoring himself on Terry Crowley's single. Mark Belanger singled in a pair of runs in the sixth, sending the Angels to their 11th loss in their last 13 games at home.

White Sox 8, Indians 7 at Chicago (night game):
Harry Chappas doubled home Bob Molinaro from first base with two out in the ninth inning, lifting the White Sox to an 8-7 triumph over the Indians. With one out in the ninth, Cleveland reliever Sid Monge hit Molinaro with a pitch. After Harold Baines flied out, Chappas lined a two-bagger off the left field wall. Ace White Sox reliever Ed Farmer hurled 1 2/3 scoreless innings in raising his record to 5-0.

Brewers 8, Tigers 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
A home run by Gorman Thomas triggered a five-run fourth inning as the Brewers saluted the return of Manager George Bamberger by whipping the Tigers, 8-4, for their 11th victory in the last 14 games. The Brewers were 26-21 under interim skipper Buck Rodgers while Bamberger was recuperating from March 26 open-heart surgery. After Thomas' 10th homer of the season tied the contest, 1-1, Charlie Moore had a two-run single and Ed Romero drove in the other two runs with a double. Romero had a third RBI in the game when he walked with the bases loaded in the seventh.

Twins 5, Blue Jays 0 at Minnesota (night game):
A single by John Mayberry with two out in the seventh inning was the only hit permitted by Geoff Zahn as the lefthander hurled the Twins to a 5-0 victory over the Blue Jays. Zahn walked three and struck out six and no Toronto player got as far as second base.

Red Sox 14, A's 8 at Oakland (night game):
Tony Perez belted his fifth career grand slam and Jerry Remy went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs to spark the Red Sox to a 14-8 rout of the A's. The Red Sox collected 19 hits off three pitchers, including a 5-for-6 performance by Rick Burleson, who drove in three runs. Mitchell Page had a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning and a two-run homer in the seventh to account for five RBIs in a losing effort.

Yankees 3, Mariners 0 at Seattle (night game):
Tommy John became the 10th active pitcher and 80th overall with 200 career victories after tossing a two-hitter, lifting the Yankees to a 3-0 victory over the Mariners. A single by Willie Horton in the second inning and a single by Tom Paciorek in the fourth were the only hits off John, who hurled his fourth shutout of the season. Bobby Murcer hit a solo homer in the sixth and Bobby Brown smashed a two-run round-tripper in the eighth.

Royals 4, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
The Royals won their fourth game in a row on the strength of four straight hits and a three-run outburst with two out in the fifth inning, beating the Rangers, 4-2. Willie Wilson started the uprising with a double and scored on U.L. Washington's single. George Brett stroked a run-scoring double and then scored on a single by Amos Otis to break a 2-2 deadlock.

Dodgers 5, Braves 0 at Atlanta (night game):
Jerry Reuss did not allow a hit for 6 2/3 innings before settling for a three-hitter in the Dodgers' 5-0 victory over the Braves. Reuss lost his bid for a no-hitter when Jeff Burroughs doubled off the center field fence with two out in the seventh. Joe Ferguson drove in the initial run with a groundout before Reggie Smith and Ron Cey each accounted for a round-tripper.

Reds 4, Padres 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
A throwing error by third baseman Aurelio Rodriguez in the seventh inning enabled Dave Collins to score all the way from first base with the tie-breaking run, helping the Reds to a 4-2 triumph over the Padres. Collins reached first on a fielder's choice and scored when Rodriguez barehanded a chopper by Dave Concepcion and threw wildly past first. Concepcion was credited with an infield single and Rodriguez was charged with his second error of the game.

Astros 2, Giants 0 at Houston (night game):
J.R. Richard tossed a three-hitter and struck out 13 for his second straight shutout as the Astros blanked the Giants, 2-0. After giving up a pair of singles in the first two innings, Richard retired 22 consecutive batters. It was the third time this year and 39th in his career that the Astros righthander struck out 10 or more batters.

Expos 7, Cardinals 2 at Montreal (night game):
Gary Carter and Andre Dawson each drove in two runs and Bill Lee scattered eight hits to give the Expos a 7-2 triumph over the Cardinals.

Mets 9, Pirates 4 at New York (night game):
After singling in two runs in an eight-run second inning, Lee Mazzilli later connected for his first homer of the season to lead the Mets to a 9-4 win over the Pirates. The Mets had five hits for eight runs off Bert Blyleven. Pete Falcone drove in the go-ahead run in the second, but failed to go the five innings required to gain the victory. The Pirates played the game without third baseman Bill Madlock, who was serving the first game of his 15-game suspension after withdrawing his appeal of the fine and suspension.

Phillies 6, Cubs 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
Lonnie Smith had a single, double and triple, scored twice and drove in two runs to help Bob Walk post his first major league victory and lead the Phillies to a 6-5 rain delayed triumph over the Cubs. Smith singled in the first inning and scored on a double by Pete Rose. After a 37-minute rain delay, Greg Luzinski and Larry Bowa also doubled in runs in the initial inning.
