Orioles 13, Angels 8 at California (day game):
Al Bumbry drove in five runs with four hits and Kiko Garcia had four RBIs as the Orioles handed the Angels their fifth straight loss, 13-8. The Orioles benefited from 11 walks. With two out in the Orioles' fifth inning, Chris Knapp and Mark Clear issued bases-loaded walks, tying the score at 5-5, before Garcia and then Rich Dauer hit two-run singles. Garcia hit a two-run single and Bumbry had a two-run double in the sixth.

Indians 7, White Sox 2 at Chicago (day game):
Jerry Dybzinski doubled home the game's first run in a three-run second inning and got a second RBI with a suicide squeeze in the sixth as the Indians beat the White Sox, 7-2. The Indians tied an A.L. record with three sacrifice bunts in the sixth as they batted around and scored four runs on only one hit, an RBI single by Miguel Dilone. One run scored on a bases-loaded walk and one on a groundout.

Tigers 9, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (day game):
Jim Lentine led off the game with his first major league homer and the Tigers went on to a five-run first inning en route to a 9-5 victory over the Brewers. In the fourth, Lentine started a two-run rally with a double.

[DH] Twins 5, Blue Jays 1 (day game) / Blue Jays 6, Twins 4 at Minnesota (day game):
The Twins and Blue Jays split a doubleheader, with Minnesota winning the opener, 5-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Roger Erickson and reliever Doug Corbett and Toronto taking the 13-inning nightcap, 6-4, on a two-run double by Barry Bonnell. In the first game, back-to-back doubles by Rob Wilfong and Mike Cubbage gave the Twins a run in the second inning and Roy Smalley and Wilfong each singled home a marker in a four-run fourth. Otto Velez doubled with one out in the top of the 13th in the second game and gave way to pinch-runner Joe Cannon. After an intentional walk to Roy Howell, Bonnell sent home the winning runs with a drive to left-center.

Red Sox 6, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
Atoning for his third-inning error that gave the A's their run, Butch Hobson socked a three-run homer to trigger a five-run ninth inning as the Red Sox won, 6-1. Jim Rice and pinch-hitter Dwight Evans drew one-out walks off reliever Dave Hamilton before Hobson's homer broke the 1-1 tie.

Mariners 5, Yankees 0 at Seattle (night game):
Tom Paciorek hit a two-run homer off Ron Guidry in the first inning as the Mariners snapped their four-game losing string with a 5-0 triumph over the Yankees. Glenn Abbott and Shane Rawley, who relieved after the first two batters hit safely in the ninth, combined on a six-hitter.

Royals 5, Rangers 4 at Texas (night game):
George Brett's two-run homer off reliever Bob Babcock with two out in the top of the ninth inning broke a 3-3 tie as the Royals extended their winning streak to six games with a 5-4 triumph over the Rangers, who lost their fifth in a row. Dan Quisenberry got the last two outs for his 10th save, but not before Rudty Staub's pinch-double drove in the last Texas run.

Dodgers 3, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Don Sutton and Rick Sutcliffe combined on a five-hitter and Dusty Baker drove in two runs, leading the Dodgers to a 3-1 victory over the Braves. Sutton hurled 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win, improving his record against Atlanta to 32-12. Sutcliffe logged his fourth save. Baker ripped a homer in the second inning and sent Reggie Smith home in the fourth with a ground out.

Reds 1, Padres 0 at Cincinnati (day game):
Rookie Charlie Leibrandt hurled a three-hitter and Dan Driessen hit a homer in the second inning as the Reds downed the Padres, 1-0. It was the second shutout of the season for Leibrandt, who struck out two and walked one.

Astros 5, Giants 4 at Houston (night game):
An error by Johnnie LeMaster permitted pinch-runner Julio Gonzalez to score from second base in the ninth inning, lifting the Astros to a 5-4 verdict over the Giants. Gonzalez ran for Art Howe, who opened the inning with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice. After an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Bruce Bochy, Gonzalez scored when LeMaster failed to grab Rennie Stennett's throw on a potential double-play grounder by Rafael Landestoy. The Giants had tied the game, 4-4, in the ninth on a two-out triple by LeMaster and single by Jim Wohlford.

[DH] Expos 6, Cardinals 4 (day game) / Expos 9, Cardinals 4 at Montreal (day game):
Andre Dawson went 5-for-5 and drove in two runs and Rowland Office and Warren Cromartie had two RBIs apiece, enabling the Expos to extend their winning streak to six games with a 9-4 victory over the Cardinals in the nightcap. The Expos also won the first game of the doubleheader, 6-4. Cardinals Manager Ken Boyer was fired between games of the twin bill with the worst record (18-33) in baseball. Coach Jack Krol ran the club in the second game. In the opener, Gary Carter slammed a two-run homer as the Expos erupted for three runs in the first inning. Ron LeFlore made it 4-0 with a single in the second and Cromartie made it 5-0 in the third with a round-tripper. In the nightcap. the Expos erased a 3-1 Cardinals lead with an RBI single by Cromartie in the third and a run-scoring single by LeFlore and two-run double by Dawson in the fourth. Office drove in two more runs with a double in the seventh.

[DH] Mets 6, Pirates 4 (day game) / Pirates 3, Mets 0 at New York (day game):
Eddie Solomon and Kent Tekulve combined on a six-hitter and Mike Easler hit his third home run of the day to give the Pirates a 3-0 triumph over Mets in the nightcap after the Mets took the opener, 6-4. The Mets overcame a 4-3 deficit in the seventh inning of the opener when Frank Taveras singled home Doug Flynn and hot-hitting Steve Henderson, who was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, smashed a single to plate Lee Mazzilli and Taveras. John Milner's two-out single gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Omar Moreno increased the lead with a run-scoring single in the fifth. Then Easler, who had two homers in the first game, led off the ninth with a blast over the left-center field barrier.

Cubs 2, Phillies 0 at Philadelphia (day game):
Lynn McGlothen scattered six hits in eight innings and scored the decisive run of the Cubs' 2-0 triumph over the Phillies. Bruce Sutter loaded the bases in the ninth before recording his 12th save. McGlothen sliced a double to left-center with one out in the third and scored after a single by Ivan DeJesus and double by Mike Tyson. The Cubs' other run came in the seventh on a single by Tim Blackwell, a sacrifice and single by DeJesus.
