Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 5, Yankees 4 at California (night game):
Rallying for three runs in the eighth inning, the Angels snapped a six-game losing streak by shading the Yankees, 5-4. The Yanks led, 4-2, when Bobby Clark stroked a one-out single and Freddie Patek followed with a home run to tie the score. Tom Donohue then singled and reached second on a bunt single by Rick Miller. Rich Gossage relieved Rudy May on the mound for the Yanks and struck out Carney Lansford, but Rod Carew then drilled a single to right to score Donohue with the winning run.

Blue Jays 1, White Sox 0 at Chicago (night game):
A four-hitter by Jim Clancy carried the Blue Jays to a 1-0 blanking of the White Sox. The game's lone run came in the second inning when Barry Bonnell and John Mayberry connected for consecutive one-out doubles. The Sox had a runner on third with one out in the eighth inning but a squeeze play failed as Clancy fielded a bunt by Thad Bosley and threw Jim Morrison out at the plate.

Royals 8, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
Willie Aikens drove in four runs with a two-run homer and bases-loaded double to spark the Royals to an 8-4 triumph overthe Indians, Kansas City's seventh consecutive victory. Aikens' homer capped a four-run third inning that also featured a tie-breaking two-run single by Hal McRae. Aikens' double highlighted a three-run seventh. K.C. third baseman George Brett was carried off the field in the third inning after suffering ligament damage to his right ankle while stealing second base.

Tigers 8, Twins 3 at Detroit (night game):
Pitching his sixth complete game and winning for the fourth time in his last five outings, Milt Wilcox hurled the Tigers to an 8-3 victory over the Twins. The Tigers scored four runs in the third inning, tallies being driven in on consecutive doubles by Lance Parrish and Al Cowens. Stan Papi led off the third with a two-bagger and, one out later, Alan Trammell walked and Steve Kemp was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Parrish and Cowens then connected with doubles to drive loser Geoff Zahn from the game.

Rangers 3, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
Al Oliver homered and delivered a pair of singles to back the five-hit pitching of Fergie Jenkins as the Rangers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 triumph over the Brewers. Oliver belted a round-tripper in the fourth inning after Robin Yount had given the Brewers a 1-0 lead in the third with a homer. The Rangers scored the go-ahead runs in the eighth. Mickey Rivers singled, Bump Wills walked and Oliver singled to plate Rivers. A sacrifice fly by Rusty Staub ended the scoring.

A's 7, Orioles 4 at Oakland (night game):
Dwayne Murphy went 4-for-4 and Rickey Henderson added a triple and two singles as the A's downed the Orioles, 7-4. An RBI double by Mario Guerrero broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning and Jeff Newman, Randy Elliott and Mike Heath each drove in a run during a three-run fifth.

Red Sox 5, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
Homers by Jim Rice and Fred Lynn were the key blows as the Red Sox posted an 11-inning, 5-4 victory over the Mariners. Rice blasted a solo homer with one out in the ninth to tie the score at 4-4 and Lynn led off the 11th with his round-tripper. Boston had taken the lead in the seventh on a solo homer by Carlton Fisk but Seattle tied the score in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Julio Cruz.

Braves 5, Cardinals 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Phil Niekro hurled a three-hitter for his 223rd career victory and Dale Murphy and Gary Matthews belted home runs to lead the Braves to a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals. Murphy's blow was a three-run affair and came in the fifth after a pair of walks. Matthews drilled a two-run shot in the eighth. Cardinals' runs came in the third on a two-out walk to Dane Iorg and homer by Keith Hernandez.

Pirates 5, Reds 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Long-ball blasts by Willie Stargell and Mike Easler propelled the Pirates to a 5-3 triumph over the Reds. Stargell cracked a two-run homer to snap a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning and Easler drilled an RBI triple in the fourth and solo round-tripper in the eighth. John Candelaria received credit for the victory while Kent Tekulve, who came on in the ninth after a leadoff homer by Ken Griffey, recorded his eighth save.

Astros 5, Cubs 2 at Houston (night game):
The Astros took over first place in the N.L. West by winning their seventh straight game, 5-2 over the Cubs. Houston scored three runs in the third inning. Vern Ruhle singled, Rafael Landestoy walked and Terry Puhl singled Ruhle home while Landestoy was thrown out at third on the play. After a walk to Joe Morgan, a double by Jose Cruz plated two more tallies. Cesar Cedeno hit a solo homer in the sixth and Morgan stroked a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Expos 8, Padres 4 at Montreal (night game):
A five-run outburst in the sixth inning propelled the Expos to their seventh straight victory, an 8-4 win over the Padres. The Expos trailed, 3-0, going into the bottom of the sixth, when Chris Speier singled and Tony Bernazard followed with a pinch-homer. Ron LeFlore singled and scored on a triple by Rodney Scott. Andre Dawson then followed with another triple and a sacrifice fly by Gary Carter produced the final run of the frame. The Expos added three more runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Scott and RBI single by Dawson.

Mets 5, Dodgers 4 at New York (night game):
Doug Flynn singled home the winning run in the sixth inning as the Mets edged the Dodgers, 5-4. The score was 4-4 in the sixth when Mike Jorgensen stroked a two-out single, went to second on a walk to Elliott Maddox and scored on Flynn's blow to right. The Dodgers built a 4-0 early lead as Dusty Baker led the way with two homers, but the Mets tied the contest in the fourth frame on a two-run single by John Stearns and sacrifice flies by Joel Youngblood and Maddox. The game was interrupted by a bench-clearing brawl in the second inning during which L.A. third baseman Ron Cey was ejected from the game. Cey charged the mound after being hit by a pitch from Pat Zachry. The incident occurred after Steve Garvey and Baker had connected for consecutive round-trippers.

Phillies 4, Giants 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
A two-run homer by Garry Maddox in the sixth inning lifted the Phillies to a 4-3 decision over the Giants. The Phils were behind, 3-2, going into the bottom of the sixth, when Greg Luzinski drew a leadoff walk and, one out later, Maddox connected for the circuit. Luzinski drilled a leadoff homer in the second inning and the Phils tallied once in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Pete Rose. Ron Reed pitched three innings of hitless relief to pick up the save.
