Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Angels 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Eddie Murray and Al Bumbry smashed homers to help Steve Stone to his eighth victory of the season as the Orioles captured a 5-3 decision from the Angels. Murray's round-tripper in the sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie while Bumbry connected with a man aboard in the seventh.

Red Sox 6, A's 2 at Boston (night game):
A four-run explosion in the fifth inning carried the Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the A's. With the score tied, 1-1, in the fifth, Jerry Remy led off with a single and moved to second on a walk to Fred Lynn. A single by Tony Perez scored Remy and a single by Jim Rice plated Lynn. Carlton Fisk then capped the uprising with a line double off the left field wall, scoring Perez and Rice.

White Sox 5, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
A two-run single by Todd Cruz highlighted a three-run the eighth inning and rookie reliever Lamarr Hoyt picked up his first major league victory as the White Sox defeated the Indians, 5-3, snapping the Tribe's winning skein at five games. After a throwing error by third baseman Toby Harrah, a two-base error by center fielder Rick Manning and a wild pitch enabled the White Sox to tie the score at 3-3 in the eighth. Thad Bosley was given an intentional walk to fill the bases and Cruz followed with the decisive hit.

Tigers 3, Brewers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Jack Morris scattered five hits as the Tigers blanked the Brewers, 3-0. The Tigers opened a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jim Lentine reached first on an error by third baseman Don Money, moved to third on a single by Alan Trammell and scored on a sacrifice fly by Steve Kemp. Trammell put the game on ice with a two-run homer in the eighth chukker.

Royals 3, Rangers 2 at Kansas City (night game):
Pushing across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royals shaded the Rangers, 3-2. The score was tied, 2-2, when Willie Aikens opened the K.C. ninth with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner German Barranca. Amos Otis singled Barranca to third and, after Clint Hurdle was walked intentionally to load the bases, Jamie Quirk lofted sacrifice a fly to deliver the winning run. The Royals had knotted the score in the fifth frame on a run-scoring double by U.L. Washington and RBI single by Willie Wilson.

Yankees 8, Mariners 2 at New York (night game):
Recording his sixth straight victory, Tom Underwood combined with Ron Davis to hurl the Yankees to an 8-2 verdict over the Mariners. The Bronx Bombers broke the game open with a four-run outburst in the fifth inning as Dennis Werth delivered a two-run single, Reggie Jackson stroked a sacrifice fly and Bobby Murcer hit an RBI single. The Yanks picked up three more tallies in the sixth, with Werth and Bob Watson driving in runs with singles and Jackson plating another on an infield out.

Twins 8, Blue Jays 6 at Toronto (night game):
Scoreless relief pitching by Doug Corbett over the final 4 1/3 innings enabled the Twins to outlast the Blue Jays, 8-6. The Twins jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a walk to Butch Wynegar, doubles by Ken Landreaux and Ron Jackson and a single by John Castino. They scored three more times in the second on an RBI single by Wynegar, sacrifice fly by Glenn Adams and squeeze bunt by Castino.

Astros 7, Cubs 1 at Chicago (day game):
J.R. Richard and Joaquin Andujar combined on a three-hitter as the Astros enjoyed a 7-1 romp over the Cubs. Richard, who left after five innings because he said he was not getting good speed on his pitches, had his consecutive scoreless inning streak snapped at 21 in the first frame when doubles by Ivan DeJesus and Bill Buckner resulted in Chicago's run. The Astros scored three times in the first inning on a two-run double by Enos Cabell and RBI single by Alan Ashby. Jose Cruz belted a three-run homer in the second.

Phillies 6, Dodgers 5 at Los Angeles (night game):
Coming from behind in the late innings, the Phillies prevailed over the Dodgers, 6-5. Larry Bowa led off the eighth with a single, took third on a single by Manny Trillo and scored the winning run on a pinch-single by Greg Gross.

Reds 4, Pirates 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Johnny Bench, who went 4-for-4, and Ray Knight hit back-to-back ninth-inning homers to power the Reds to a 4-3 come-from-behind triumph over the Pirates. The victory went to reliever Paul Moskau, who retired the last nine Pittsburgh batters.

Padres 2, Mets 1 at San Diego (night game):
A single by Gene Richards with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning lifted the Padres to a 2-1 triumph over the Mets. The score was 1-1 going into the bottom of ninth when Bill Fahey got an infield single. Dave Cash hita grounder to Elliott Maddox but the third baseman's throw to second sailed into right field and Paul Dade, running for Fahey, reached third. After Tim Flannery was given an intentional walk to fill the sacks, Gene Tenace struck out but Richards grounded a single to left to score the winning run.

Expos 2, Giants 1 at San Francisco (night game):
Clutch relief pitching by Woodie Fryman enabled the Expos to edge the Giants, 2-1. The veteran lefty came on in the eighth inning with a run in, one out and runners on second and third, and prevented further scoring. The Expos scored in the second inning on singles by Warren Cromartie, Bob Pate and Ken Macha and picked up another tally in the sixth on a solo homer by Jerry White.

Cardinals 3, Braves 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Driving in two runs, Ted Simmons paced the Cardinals to a 3-2 decision over the Braves. The Redbirds catcher clouted a solo homer in the first inning and drove home the winning run with a double in the ninth. Garry Templeton began the Cardinals' ninth with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and, after Keith Hernandez was intentionally walked, came home when Simmons lined a shot off the right field wall.
