Today's scores and summaries:

Mariners 3, Orioles 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Three-hit hurling by Floyd Bannister and a three-run homer by Ted Cox enabled the Mariners to end their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Orioles. Bannister gave up a round-tripper by Benny Ayala in the second inning and trailed in a duel with Jim Palmer until the ninth when Dan Meyer doubled, Tom Paciorek walked and Cox clouted his homer.

Angels 20, Red Sox 2 at Boston (night game):
Freddie Patek hit three homers and a double, drove in seven runs and set a California club record for total bases with 14 as the Angels smashed their nine-game losing streak with a 20-2 thrashing of the Red Sox. Patek drove in a run with a double in the second, homered with two aboard in the third, added a solo swat in the fifth and connected with a man on base in the eighth. Rick Miller, Jason Thompson and Carney Lansford also homered in the Angels' 26-hit attack.

Tigers 5, White Sox 3 at Chicago (night game):
After a 10-minute brawl interrupted the game in the 11th inning, the Tigers scored two runs and defeated the White Sox, 5-3. Al Cowens, batting in the 11th, grounded to shortstop, but instead of running to first base the Tigers outfielder charged White Sox pitcher Ed Farmer, setting off a melee. Cowens, acquired by the Tigers from the Angels this season, missed part of last year with the Royals after he was hit in the jaw by a pitch from Farmer, then with the Rangers. Cowens was ejected. When play resumed, Lance Parrish walked and scored the tie-breaking run on a double by John Wockenfuss. Following an intentional pass to Richie Hebner, Champ Summers singled for an insurance tally.

Brewers 10, Royals 5 at Kansas City (night game):
A double by Dick Davis drove in three of the Brewers' five runs in a seventh-inning rally that helped produce a 10-5 victory over the Royals. Trailing, 3-2, the Brewers loaded the bases on a single, error, sacrifice and intentional pass before Davis cleared the sacks with his double. Davis also drove in another run with a triple in the eighth.

Indians 4, Twins 3 at Minnesota (night game):
Toby Harrah doubled in the 15th inning, scoring Gary Alexander from first base, to give the Indians a 4-3 victory over the Twins. Alexander drew a walk to set the stage for the winning run.

Yankees 15, A's 7 at New York (night game):
Spoiling Billy Martin's first appearance in New York as Oakland manager, the Yankees walloped the A's, 15-7. In achieving their eighth straight victory, the Yankees got five RBIs from Jim Spencer and four from Joe Lefebvre. Spencer hit a three-run homer in the third inning and singled for two more tallies in the eighth. Lefebvre rapped a triple and two singles to account for his RBIs.

Rangers 5, Blue Jays 2 at Texas (night game):
Fergie Jenkins struck out five to increase his career total to 2,824 and move ahead of Cy Young into eighth place on the all-time list as the Rangers defeated the Blue Jays, 5-2. Jenkins pitched a five-hitter. Rick Bosetti hit a double and homer, driving in both Blue Jays runs. The Rangers picked up an unearned pair in the sixth inning to tie the score and went ahead in the seventh on singles by Al Oliver and Rusty Staub and sacrifice fly by Richie Zisk. Dave Roberts iced the verdict with a two-run homer in the eighth.

Cubs 4, Braves 2 at Atlanta (night game):
Ken Henderson hit a homer and Mike Vail batted in one run and scored another to lead the Cubs to a 4-2 victory over the Braves. After Henderson's homer in the second inning, the Cubs added an unearned run in the fourth. Vali then singled and scored in the sixth before accounting for the Cubs' last run with a single in the seventh.

Cardinals 7, Reds 5 at Cincinnati (night game):
Terry Kennedy hit a pair of three-run homers to power the Cardinals to a 7-5 victory over the Reds. Two walks, a single by George Hendrick and Kennedy's first homer sent the Cards ahead, 4-0, but the Reds came back to take a 5-4 lead with the aid of a two-run smash by Dan Driessen. However in the seventh, Ted Simmons and Hendrick hit singles and Kennedy won the game with his second homer.

Astros 6, Pirates 4 at Houston (night game):
Stringing together six straight hits, including a bases-loaded triple by Rafael Landestoy, the Astros scored five runs in the second inning and defeated the Pirates, 6-4. With one out, Jeff Leonard, Alan Ashby and Ken Forsch hit singles to fill the sacks and set the stage for Landestoy's triple. Terry Puhl followed with a single, scoring Landestoy. After a single by Jose Cruz for the Astros' sixth hit in a row, sending Puhl to third, Cesar Cedeno lofted a sacrifice fly. Mike Easler hit a two-run homer for the Pirates in the third inning to snap a string of 29 innings of scoreless pitching by the Astros' staff.

Dodgers 4, Mets 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
Greeting the arrival of Jeff Reardon in relief, Dusty Baker knocked in two runs with a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth to give the Dodgers a 4-3 victory over the Mets, who suffered their sixth straight defeat.

Padres 4, Expos 2 at San Diego (night game):
Jerry Turner stole home for the second time this season, sparking the Padres to a 4-2 victory over the Expos. Turner singled in the fourth inning, took third on a single by Dave Winfield and the pair then worked a double steal with Turner scoring. Willie Montanez followed with a triple, driving in Winfield, and came home himself on a single by Tim Flannery.

Giants 5, Phillies 1 at San Francisco (night game):
Jack Clark homered in the fifth inning and scored again after hitting a double in the seventh to lead the Giants to a 5-1 victory over the Phillies. Allen Ripley, making only his second start of the season, yielded the Phils' run on three singles in the first. Johnnie LeMaster batted in the tying tally with a single in the fourth before Clark decided the game with his homer.
