Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 9, Mariners 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Allowing only five hits, Steve Stone won his seventh straight game, pitching the Orioles to a 9-0 victory over the Mariners. Eddie Murray led the Orioles' attack, driving in three runs with a homer in the fourth inning and accounting for another RBI with a single in the fifth.

Angels 4, Red Sox 2 at Boston (day game):
Led by Joe Rudi and Rod Carew, the Angels defeated the Red Sox, 4-2. After the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead, the Angels erupted for three runs in the third inning. Carney Lansford singled and scored on a double by Carew. Jason Thompson walked and Rudi then batted in Carew and Thompson with a double. Carew, who had three hits, singled in the eighth and scored on a sacrifice and single by Rudi.

Tigers 4, White Sox 1 at Chicago (day game):
Milt Wilcox turned in his fifth straight complete-game victory, pitching the Tigers to a 4-1 victory over the White Sox.

Brewers 5, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Don Money cracked a pair of homers, accounting for three runs, to back up the pitching of Lary Sorensen as the Brewers defeated the Royals, 5-1.

Twins 3, Indians 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Hitting a double and two singles, Butch Wynegar drove in all of the Twins' runs in a 3-2 victory over the Indians. Singles by Ron Jackson, Rob Wilfong and Wynegar opened the scoring in the third inning. Wilfong singled again and Wynegar doubled for another run in the fifth. The Twins catcher then delivered the winning single in the seventh, driving in John Castino, who had singled and moved to second on a sacrifice.

Yankees 5, A's 3 at New York (day game):
With a crowd of 51,598 on hand for annual Old Timers Day, the Yankees extended their winning streak to nine games with a 5-3 victory over the A's. Tommy John became the A.L.'s first 10-game winner this season with the help of Rich Gossage, who relieved with one out in the eighth inning. Jim Spencer smashed a three-run homer in the first.

Rangers 2, Blue Jays 1 at Texas (night game):
Pinch-hitter Pat Putnam came through with a single in the ninth inning, scoring Jim Norris, to bring the Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Blue Jays. Norris beat out an infield hit to lead off the frame and moved to second on a sacrifice by Jim Sundberg. After pinch-hitter Johnny Grubb drew a walk, Putnam followed with his hit. Jon Matlack, who pitched the route, gained his first victory since May 12.

Braves 8, Cubs 0 at Atlanta (night game):
While Doyle Alexander was pitching a three-hit shutout, the Braves bashed three homers in an 8-0 victory over the Cubs. Dale Murphy connected for the circuit with a man on base in the first inning. In the second, when the Braves erupted for five runs, Bob Horner had a solo swat and Chris Chambliss homered with two aboard.

Reds 8, Cardinals 5 at Cincinnati (day game):
Helped by three straight walks, plus a throwing error by Garry Templeton, the Reds rallied for five runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Cardinals, 8-5. Losing, 5-2, the Reds filled the sacks on passes issued by Kim Seaman. John Littlefield relieved and was greeted with a two-run double by Ray Knight. After an intentional pass to George Foster, Joe Nolan grounded into a forceout but Templeton threw wild, trying for a double play, as two runs scored. Dave Concepcion then capped the inning with an RBI single.

Astros 4, Pirates 2 at Houston (night game):
Although Vern Ruhle was tagged for 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings, the Astros were able to defeat the Pirates 4-2, for their 14th straight victory at home. Frank LaCorte and Joe Sambito pitched hitless ball in relief.

Dodgers 5, Mets 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Steve Garvey smacked a three-run homer in the first inning, starting the Dodgers off to a 5-0 victory over the Mets behind the six-hit hurling of Jerry Reuss.

Expos 7, Padres 4 at San Diego (night game):
The Expos continued their success against lefthanded pitching while beating the Padres, 7-4. John Curtis, who drew the defeat, was the 11th straight southpaw to lose to the Expos.

Giants 9, Phillies 3 at San Francisco (day game):
The Giants posted their fourth straight victory and ninth in their last 12 games, defeating the Phillies, 9-3.
