Orioles 6, Blue Jays 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Scattering eight hits in a route-going performance, Jim Palmer pitched the Orioles to a 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays. Terry Crowley drove in the Orioles' initial run with a single in the first inning. Ken Singleton added two with a single in the fifth. An error by Jays pitcher Mike Barlow gave the Orioles two more tallies in the sixth and Doug DeCinces closed out the scoring with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

White Sox 5, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Ed Farmer recorded his 16th save of the season as the White Sox captured a 5-2 decision over the Angels. The White Sox had a two-run homer by Chet Lemon in the second inning and two-run double by Jim Morrison in the sixth. Wayne Nordhagen blasted a round-tripper in the eighth.

Tigers 13, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
The Tigers won their seventh straight game, enjoying a 13-3 rout of the Indians, as Milt Wilcox registered his sixth consecutive complete-game victory. Every player in Detroit's starting lineup had an RBI. Cleveland pitchers issued 14 bases on balls while being thumped for 15 hits. Steve Kemp led the Tigers' offense with three hits and three RBIs.

Royals 4, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Paul Splittorff and Dan Quisenberry combined on a six-hitter as the Royals posted a 4-1 decision over the Twins. The Royals scored twice in the second inning. Singles by Amos Otis and John Wathan sandwiched around a walk to Willie Aikens loaded the bases. Otis came home when Darrell Porter hit into a double play and Aikens tallied on a single by Frank White. Hal McRae drilled a two-run homer in the sixth.

Red Sox 4, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
Taking advantage of two errors, the Red Sox pushed across a run in the 10th inning to edge the Yankees, 4-3. With one out and the game tied, 3-3, Gary Allenson hit a grounder that went through third baseman Graig Nettles' legs into left field, where the ball was bobbled by Dennis Werth. Allenson reached second on the double error, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a double by Dave Stapleton. Tom Burgmeier, who pitched the last 4 2/3 innings and struck out eight batters, gained the victory.

Brewers 5, A's 2 at Oakland (day game):
Ninth-inning homers by Sixto Lezcano, Mark Brouhard and Buck Martinez powered the Brewers to a 5-2 triumph over the A's. After Dwayne Murphy homered in the eighth to put the A's ahead, 2-1, Lezcano led off the Brewers' ninth with the score-tying blow and Brouhard followed with his homer. One out later, Martinez also hit for the circuit. Cecil Cooper singled for another run before the inning ended.

Rangers 6, Mariners 1 at Texas (night game):
Despite pitching in temperatures that were over the 100-degree mark, Fergie Jenkins went the distance as the Rangers defeated the Mariners, 6-1. The Rangers scored twice in their first turn at bat on a single by Mickey Rivers, a sacrifice, double by Buddy Bell and single by Rusty Staub. Richie Zisk delivered two tallies with a sixth-inning single and another in the eighth with a single that followed an RBI triple by Bell.

[DH] Mets 9, Cubs 1 (day game) / Cubs 4, Mets 1 at Chicago (day game):
Splitting a doubleheader, the Mets won the opener, 9-1, and the Cubs captured the nightcap, 4-1. The Mets jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the lidlifter on consecutive RBI doubles by Claudell Washington and Joel Youngblood and added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Pat Zachry. The Mets scored four times in the third frame on a sacrifice by John Stearns, RBI single by Jose Cardenal and two-run double by Elliott Maddox.

Reds 15, Braves 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
The Reds battered the Braves from pillar to post in pounding out a 15-3 victory. After the Braves scored a run in the top of fthe irst inning on a homer by Dale Murphy, Ray Knight put the Reds ahead in the bottom of the frame with a grand slam. Ken Griffey belted a circuit clout in the seventh. Tom Seaver, going the first seven innings, picked up the victory, only his third of the season.

Dodgers 9, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
A three-run homer by Steve Yeager in the seventh inning was the key blow as the Dodgers prevailed over the Astros, 9-2. The game was tied, 2-2, when Steve Garvey began the seventh with a walk and Ron Cey reached first on an error by third baseman Enos Cabell. One out later, Yeager pounded an 0-2 pitch against the screen above the left field wall.

Phillies 2, Expos 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
A run-scoring single by Mike Schmidt in the 10th inning lifted the Phillies to a 2-1 decision over the Expos. Pinch-hitter Greg Gross led off with a walk and Pete Rose followed with a double. After Bake McBride was intentionally passed, Schmidt lined the game-winning hit to left-center.

Padres 7, Giants 3 at San Diego (night game):
Dave Winfield drove in five runs, including three in the first inning with a homer, to spark the Padres to a 7-3 victory over the Giants. The Padres routed Giants starter Allen Ripley in the opening stanza with five hits, including Winfield's round-tripper and an RBI double by Dave Cash. Winfield also hit a sacrifice fly in the second and run-scoring triple in the eighth.

Cardinals 4, Pirates 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Cardinals triumphed over the Pirates, 4-1. The Redbirds trailed, 1-0, going into the bottom of the fifth inning but went ahead, 2-1, with a single by Ken Oberkfell, a bunt by Don Hood on which both runners were safe, a sacrifice by Bobby Bonds, sacrifice fly by Garry Templeton and single by Keith Hernandez. They added two more tallies in the seventh when Templeton doubled, Hernandez walked, Ted Simmons singled in Templeton and Hernandez raced home while Simmons was in a rundown between first and second.
