Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Blue Jays 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Steve Stone won his eighth straight game and 10th of the season as the Orioles downed the Blue Jays, 4-1. The Orioles scored three times in the first inning. Al Bumbry led off with a single, took second on a wild pitch and came in on a single by Kiko Garcia. After an out, Terry Crowley and John Lowenstein rapped consecutive run-scoring singles.

White Sox 5, Angels 2 at California (night game):
Steve Trout and Mike Proly combined on a six-hitter as the White Sox prevailed over the Angels, 5-2. The White Sox scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. Chet Lemon walked, took second on a single by Bruce Kimm and came home when third baseman Carney Lansford threw Kevin Bell's grounder past second base. Kimm registered on a force play. Lemon drilled a two-run double in the third and then scored on a single by Ron Pruitt. Rod Carew extended his hitting streak to 16 games, matching his career high, with an RBI triple in the fourth and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Don Baylor, in the lineup for the first time since going on the disabled list May 9 with a wrist fracture.

Mariners 8, Rangers 4 at Texas (night game):
Combining for five hits and six RBIs, Mario Mendoza and Larry Cox paced the Mariners to an 8-4 triumph over the Rangers. The Mariners scored three runs in the second inning on a single by Jim Anderson, double by Mendoza and homer by Cox. They put the game away with a four-run fourth on run-scoring singles by Mendoza and Cox and a two-run single by Bruce Bochte.

Mets 4, Cubs 3 at Chicago (day game):
Run-scoring singles by John Stearns and Joel Youngblood in the seventh inning lifted the Mets to a 4-3 triumph over the Cubs. The Mets trailed, 3-2, when Lee Mazzilli began the seventh with a bunt single, moved to second on a one-out walk to Claudell Washington and scored on a single by Youngblood. Stearns then followed with a single that plated Washington.

Expos 1, Phillies 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
Masterful pitching by Scott Sanderson carried the Expos to a 1-0 victory over the Phillies. The only hits permitted by the righthander were a leadoff single by Pete Rose in the first inning and a leadoff single by Manny Trillo in the eighth. The game's lone run came when Chris Speier led off the fifth with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Sanderson and tallied when Andre Dawson punched a single to right field.

Giants 2, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
Although getting ninth-inning relief help, Ed Whitson recorded his fourth straight victory as the Giants shaded the Padres, 2-1. The Giants registered both their runs in the fourth inning on three straight hits: a leadoff single by Joe Strain, triple by Jack Clark and single by Darrell Evans. Greg Minton replaced Whitson in the ninth with runners on first and third and one out and prevented the Padres from scoring, picking up his fifth save of the season.
